“She’ll let us skip English.” Finn said.
“She’ll let us skip English.” Finn said.
"Let's just lounge around in the hallways till the next class I guess?" She said in a questioning manner.
“Yeah…. maybe outside the math classroom.”
Jayde read the doors that she was passing to see which was the tenth grade math class and hung out around there before taking off her bag and setting it by the door.
Finn dug his phone out of his pocket, texting his best friend, before reading a book on his phone.
Jayde looked over to see him occupied before taking out her laptop to play some quick games. Once she was done with one round, the bell rang and she put her stuff up.
As the previous class came out, Finn came inside, setting his stuff down.
Jayde sat beside Finn again and put her stuff down, hoping and wishing that this teacher was nothing like the other.
Once everyone has entered the classroom, the teacher began taking attendance. When he got around Finn’s name, he looked up and smiled, nodding, before continuing.
Jayde relaxed in her chair finally, not noticing that she was tense while the teacher called roll.
(May I join?)
“So…. guys, I’m not going to make you start the school year with worksheets or essays. We’ll start our first project of the year today. Gingerbread houses. You guys get to decide the recipes, the style, everything. But you also have to work with measurements, thus we do this is in math class.”
(It's okay if not…)
Jayde raises her hand and waits for the teacher to call her name. When she did, she spoke aloud. "Can we work with a partner or is it separate?"
(@ The Grammar Queen, sure!)
“Good question… Jayde, right? Yes, partners are allowed, but not necessary.”
"Ok, " She said in an understanding tone. "When do we start?"
“Right now! I want research on your recipe before you start!” The teacher said. Finn looked at Jayde. “Why’d you ask about partners?”
"I don't know, a whole gingerbread house for one person to make is cool but seems like a lot of work and some help would be nice." She answered.
Finn really hoped he wasn’t trying to hard, and said, “Want to be partners?”
"Of course," She said, glad that he offered before she asked. "So what materials would we need?"
Finn pulled his phone out to immediately begin research, looking up the best ways to make gingerbread.
"I remember in first grade, we would start the base with a milk carton but I don't really know if it would be big or small enough." She said while he was scrolling.
Finn thought for a second. “That would probably work.”
"So the only other things I remember using were graham crackers, whipped cream and candy and I'm not sure how to incorporate math into that."
“We have to make everything, thus we need to know measurements.”
