Axel had thrown out his bait, unfair as the situation was, he knew that he would get a bite. The deck was so stacked that he was holding all of the cards, a one player game. He watched Juan wander about, amused at the aimlessness of it all. The fruit was more tempting than all the glittering gold, he knew. And it only took a moment for his winged friend to make a grab for it.
Silver-Tongue pulled the bowl away, making a tutting sound with his tongue, a mock look of disappointment on his face.
"Now, now.. Trying to take whats mine already?" He pouted, resting his head on his fist, inspecting the bird. He didn't need a canary, their voices paled in comparison to a sirens song. And he already had one of those in the hold. And a few dozen dead ones.
"And without even asking, for shame." He pretended to pause, like he was thinking over something, acutely aware that all his theatrics were mostly wasted on an idle mind. He tapped his chin, then glanced at the paper.
"You want this, don't you?" He picked up a grape, inspecting it and turning it in his hands, then popping it in his mouth, piercing the soft skin easily. "Didn't your momma ever tell you nothing in this world comes for free?" Axel wasn't sure why he was drawing this out, each moment made his companions sanity slip further, he was probably walking a thin line before he snapped fully and attacked him. He ran his tongue over his teeth thoughtfully.
"Hell, just sign the paper and you can eat whatever you want." Axel sighed, slumping back in his chair, maybe he was just losing his touch. Performing for a madhouse audience. Where was the joy in that? His game was wasted, violet eyes darkened with displeasure. He rubbed his temples, watching Juan with half lidded eyes. Maybe he should just shoot the bird, someone else had already de-feathered it based on those wings. Was it even that much of a prize? He exhaled softly.
