Everytime a merchant ship see's the flag, they know what it means. Surrender or death. You are aboard the pirate ship the The Deceit of Fortune More popularly known as The Deceit. The Captain is known for their ruthlessness and cruelty, tearing through the port towns and enemy ships with the swiftness of death. The ship itself is sturdy, having weathered enough storms to wear it down, but not enough to sink it. Large enough to carry a crew and loot, though the Captain takes good stock of all the treasure. You get a cut, but take one more coin than you're allotted, and it's likely your life would be forfeit. If you're lucky.
Ruling the waves by yourself isn't easy though! A crew is needed to keep this wooden coffin afloat! Currently The Deceit is docked into a pirate friendly harbor for more supplies and repairs. As well as any new crew that needs to be replaced from previous skirmishes.
The main goal of this crew is two things, accumulate as much wealth as possible and try to find a way to enjoy it for the rest of your miserable lives. And.. Eliminate as many threats as possible, be a living legend among the common people.
Note: I will allow slight steampunk elements, but keep them light. I'm going for a more classic, though romanticized, pirate adventure. If you have fun prosthetics or guns, have a reason for it. Be a brilliant, mad scientist, or have them custom made from a man held captive on the boat for this express purpose. Do whatever you want really, as long as you have a good and fun reason for doing so. Feel free to come up with history if you'd like to, just let me know and we'll work it into the story!

Name: Captain Axel Silver-Tongue
Job: The Captain, and will be referred to as such, unless you prefer walking on eggshells.

Looks: (picture or description) The Captain is a tall man, cresting just above six feet, with broad shoulders and black hair with light curls. Light violet eyes, and a sly, dangerous grin, this is a visually impressive man. Sharp cheekbones and a hint of stubble growing in around the sides, but no apparent facial hair. His hair often is pulled into a loose ponytail behind himself, or if he's really feeling it a man-bun. He's tanned, but not enough to be of a darker complexion. His clothes are a show-piece, the black boots and sturdy pants, a white shirt with ruffles. A hat with a feather large enough to question what kind of bird it came from. As well as a jacket with gold embroidery and trim, with the fun pirate buttons for flare. The Captain isn't fully human, on his fathers side he's descended from Sefksins, people with many characteristics of snakes. So he has patches of scales running up his neck, back, and some on his arms. They are surprisingly soft to the touch and a dark green color. His eyes are glassy and his tongue is sharper in more ways than one.
Likes: Fire, gold, guns, intelligent conversations and a good wind.
Dislikes: Drowning, bubbles, and being stuck in one place.
Hobbies: Pirating, reading, terrifying locals.
Backstory: Axel didn't grow up a street urchin or a noble brat, he was pretty solidly in the lower class. He has two older brothers who went with the terrestrial army as their careers of choice, but Axel decided he wanted to be in the navy. Starting low, he climbed the military ranks on his ship, formerly called Every's Mast. The country they worked for was shady with how they payed wages and it didn't take long for Axel to convince the others that they were discontent with their treatment. They overthrew the Captain in a coup and worked their way towards a port town, where the newly dubbed Deceit was better equipped and any former crew was unceremoniously dispatched or left in the town. The new Captain decided piracy was entirely more profitable and picked up any crew he could that were willing to do less than legal sailing. Axel Silver-Tongue isn't exactly wholly sane, he's a thrill-seeker who isn't afraid of death. He's cunning, crafting, and always down for a good time.
Additional Information: He owns a pair of twin flintlocks as well as the usual saber. He's named them Greed and Avarice.

Sexuality: Straight, but he's a Crab Person, so…
Looks: Karcaon are crab people. They have 6 crab legs, attached to a round carapace. A humanoid upper torso extends from the lower carapace, ending in a humanoid head. There is a set of crab arms, one big pincer and a more delicate grabber, and two humanoid arms with normal fingers. The body has a spine like normal. There is an upper carapace that comes up and over a Karcaon's head like a hood, and is as big around as the smaller one. This gives the appearance of the shell opening like a clam shell, with a person inside. Kavo is 5' tall and weighs about 220lbs. Carapaces are heavy. His torso and arms are muscular. He has no hair, since his upper carapace covers the top of his head, but he does have a dark brown beard. His carapace is a red orange color, and his skin is tanned. He has bright green eyes and a small nose, and his body is covered in scars from various battles.
Likes: Travelling, music, meeting members of other species, getting into friendly fights
Dislikes: Being tied down, the cold, and things with tentacles
Hobbies: He carves rocks in his spare time.
Backstory: The Karcaon are a very versatile people. Their carapaces are very thick, pressure and temperature resistant, so they can live in the freezing cold depths or on the surface in the sun. They are also a very militant culture, providing much of the military might and police forces for the nations they're a part of. Kavo is no different. He is friendly and protective, and gets himself in trouble often for people he cares about. Most recently, he was part of a smuggling operation on a ship with his brother. The operation went foul, and their ship was attacked. They ran and narrowly avoided being blown to matchsticks, only to run into a storm and wreck. Kavo is the lone survivor. He has returned to civilization to start again, and sees the Deceit as a chance to stay out of reach of the law, while also doing what he loves on the open water.
Additional Information: Kavo has also been in the military, so he's a decent gunner. Karcaon tend to fight just with their pincers, as their chitin carapaces make great armor and weaponry.

Backstory: Inez was a vagrant on the streets her entire life, though never disliked it. She often snuck into taverns underage, but never drank; she didn't want a reason to be arrested. Living on the streets and without money she became a bit of a kleptomaniac with a sincere dislike for money. She stole ingredients from markets and found ways to make her own food, so she never stole from restaurants out of respect. Seeking adventure, Inez decided to become a pirate.

Looks: Orion in his human form stands probably at about 6'2" and weighs about 180lbs. His body has a good bit of muscle and he isnt afraid to show it off ;)
He has a dark skin tone (idk how to describe it but i have pics) and he has dirty blonde, thick hair. His eyelashes and eyebrows are blonde as well. Orion has hazelnut eyes with horizontal pupils. Like a goat or a horses.
When in his siren form, his face is slightly flattened, the bridge of his nose basically non-existent except for two slits. He has gill like holes on the sides of his face and sharp teeth. (like a sharks)
His tail is basically the same color as his hair with green hues blending into his dark skin. His tail shape is that of a thrasher sharks. He has a large dorsal fin on his back the color of his skin with small brown greenish scales blending into his skin.
He's basically a shark dude honestly. He has sharp brownish nails and all of his scales are that of a sharks.
In both forms he has gauged ears with carved rocks in the shape of like a spiral seashell.

im working on a bigger-better piece for the first painting so ill let yall know when i get done with that.
Likes: eating fish, being on ships, singing and the fog. And most importantly, gold. (or anything shiny haha)
Dislikes: mud or dirt. mops. they weird him out. Fishermen, man-made weapons.
Hobbies: he spends most of his time in the water but when he's out of the water he's either looking for prey (he does that in water as well obviously) or collecting trinkets. He favors watches.
He doesn't come out of water a whole lot though. So he's just like mad chillin

He can change willingly to a siren or man. Though always has to be in salt water.
In addition to being a siren, he has a beautiful voice. Singing or not, his voice is soft and captivating.
He tends to keep the fact that hes a siren to himself unless he couldnt help it.

Name: Juan Martin Delgado
Job: Ship’s mechanic, possibly first mate
Age: 136 in physical years, however looks about 34 due to aging 4x slower than the average human due to his species.
Gender: Trans man, he/him
Sexuality: Pansexual
Looks: Short, about average to stronger build, with cinnamon skin and bright white hair and wing stubs that are attached to mechanical-ish wings. His eyes are a deep black, and his face is speckled with white feathers at his temples and where sideburns would be. His nose is wide and curved, and his hands are rough from callouses and scars.
Likes: Coffee, music, long conversations about important things, building and taking things apart, and flight
Dislikes: His people, his sister (for leaving him), and silence.
Hobbies: He mostly will just tinker with anything and everything. He’s a handy dandy type of guy. Also talks to himself a lot.
Backstory: Juan comes from a race called the Avants. They are avian humans with wings and feathers all over their bodies but primarily on their face, back, and calves and forearms. Juan, fifty years ago in his much younger days, had gone abroad to study as much as he could about mechanics and factory work in order to bring technology and prosperity with his sister Maria. She genetically engineered a plague of locust like creatures and he set up factories for the starving people to work in, forcing them to evolve as Juan and Maria had hoped for. But the plague worked too well. It decimated the entire island, mountain life and all plants on the lower portions of the island, and Juan and Maria were exiled and stripped of their wings. Maria ran off and hasn’t been seen since she left Juan, and Juan hid out on various islands for a while until he met a man who called himself Courage. This man was from a remote island of Avants, also exiled, who Juan (due to being driven insane from the loss of his wings) immediately proclaimed a Saint (mini god in his culture) and pretty much just worshipped. With Juan’s help, they managed to destroy his village and Juan’s too, but this devastated both of them. Courage ended up ending his life, leaving Juan alone and desolate. Now, Juan is just searching for Maria, the last connection to his home.
Additional Information: Juan’s mecha wings can’t do much flying, and can only help him glide to safety. Avants are rare and mostly keep to themselves and their island villages, so it’s unlikely your characters have encountered one outside of the occasional wingless, insane and exiled one like Juan. Juan is quite a bit insane and seems to delight in violence, so long as it isn’t towards his own kind. He doesn’t talk about his backstory much.
