"Grim, huh?" Arie said, smiling. "Well, Spice here just show– Actually, no. I- I don't remember, either. That's strange. I could've sworn I knew something…"
"Grim, huh?" Arie said, smiling. "Well, Spice here just show– Actually, no. I- I don't remember, either. That's strange. I could've sworn I knew something…"
Charlotte rubbed her head in confusion.
"I… This place is so weird," Charlotte couldn't remember how many times she called the place weird, but it wasn't enough. "Ever since I got here, I've been having major headaches. I've never had such intense ones in my life before. I keep hearing voices, and I even crashed into something that wasn't even visible. Whatever this place is, I don't like it."
"I know what you mean," sympathized Arie. "I can't number how many times I've thought the same thing."
"Getting a little dark, eh?" Dis says.
Arie looked up. Sure enough, the sun was beginning to fall below the horizon. Strangely, though, the air stayed warm.
Darn, she thought, I changed into my swimsuit for nothing.
"Well, I'm just going to change quickly. Uh, please wait up for me. I don't really want to get lost around here by myself," she worried.
"Hey, sure, why not." Dis says. "You never know what could happen around here."
"Thanks," Arie called over her shoulder as she raced away to the bathrooms again. Digging into her mysterious bag, she found a fresh set of clothes that looked like they'd be much more comfortable than the jacket and jeans she had arrived in.
Sweet, she thought, pulling out a Cheshire Cat tee. A new Disney shirt! Shorts, too. This looks much better than what I came in.
After quickly changing, she raced back out to the group, finding them (thankfully) still in the same spot she had left them, conversing amoungst themselves.
A boy with cat ears and tail Carro, if the group remembered correctly speaks up, ears and tail twitching. "Um, guys? I don't think that we are alone out here. We should probably get inside." Carro doesn't seem to realize that the setting sun is reflecting in his blue eyes, making them glow. His ears still, and swivel towards the forest and his tail poofs behind him. They can barely hear his voice when he speaks again. "We aren't alone here…" Trailing off, he stares into the forest.
Arie looked around, trying to spot anyone or anything that Carro could be talking about. When she didn't see anything, she cautiously said, "I don't see anything. Are you sure there's something here?"
He turns his gaze on her, glowing eyes wide, "We are not alone out here." Repeating the words he looks to you pleadingly. Tail poofing again, he swivels his head towards the Forest when a loud snap echoes across to them. He mewls, but looks embarrassed once he realizes it. Freezing when the growling grows loud enough for the whole group to hear. Carro is poised to run.
Spice struggles to free herself from Arie's arms, but she holds the cat tightly, fearful of the load sound coming from the forest.
Eyes wide and voice shaking with fright, Arie says, "Uh, maybe we should go inside?"
Charlotte narrowed her eyes but nodded in agreement.
"It's best if we do go inside," she said, flinching as the voices inside her head sounded like screams. She swore she heard Arie's voice in her head, but she shrugged it off and blamed it on the headache. "If Carro feels like something is wrong, we should listen," Grim growled loud enough for Charlotte to hear and dropped down from her head, straight into her arms. He snuggled into her chest, his warmth calming down Charlotte. Something flashed in everyone's eyes, but she paid no attention as all of them began to move inside slowly.
"No problem." Dis said, sincerely.
Something came out of the forest, nearly human height and a green and orange coloration, and looking like a disproportionate praying mantis, with a pointed beak. It sprinted at them.
Everyone froze when the… thing sprang towards them. Charlotte felt her legs freeze up, but when Grim slapped a paw against her cheek, she snapped out of it.
"Everyone, get inside!" Charlotte found herself ordering everyone, her eyes widening in fear. "Right now!"
Charlotte didn't know what happened, but she felt a burst of something that felt incredibly good. It increased when she and everyone else began to run to the building and died when they reached. Charlotte's eyes fell on the girl who had waved them over earlier and looking at her foot made her feel terrible. Charlotte didn't want the girl to feel like Charlotte was mocking her, but right now, all Charlotte wanted was for everyone to be safe. And so she did the only thing that seemed right to her; she grabbed the girl's arm, swung it over her shoulder and helped her into the building as fast as she could.
But before they could slam the doors shut, the creature pushed itself inside, looking hungrily at everyone with its bright red eyes. It lunged at everyone, but before it could get any closer, a mysterious force slammed into it, pushing it out.
Dis Drew the pocket knife hidden in his shoe. This thing seemed to be staying away for now. They were safe.
Charlotte didn't know what happened. One thing she was sure of was that she didn't do it, no matter how much she'd like to do so. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Arie look at her hands, but she paid it no attention.
"That…" she breathed, her voice shaking. "What was that…?"
As the group does a headcount, none of them can see Carro. As they get increasingly worried, a faint word is heard. "Here!" The group looks up, bit of plaster raining down on them. Carro is hanging upside down from the ceiling, claws digging in to the white coating. His tail is dangling, and his eyes are wide. "I'm okay!" He says, calling down to the group.
Charlotte released a breath she didn't realize she was holding. When she couldn't find Carro, she grew extremely scared. But when she heard the familiar 'I'm okay!' she felt like she could relax a little.
"So we're all safe…" she whispered, relief seeping from her voice. Her heart was beating rapidly, but Charlotte realized it wasn't because she was scared. Her heartbeat was always fast. Then a wave of dizziness fell over here and immediately sat down, hoping no one saw her moment of weakness.
Anemia… that's right…
Carro called down hesitantly again, "Guys? I think I'm stuck."
"Guys? I think I'm stuck."
For a second, everyone just stayed silent. Then slowly, starting from Charlotte, they all began to laugh and Charlotte could feel the tension seep away.
"You're a cat, Carro," Charlotte said, still laughing a little. "Jump down; you'll land on your feet. Hopefully."
"It's the 'Hopefully' I'm worried about!! Would now become a good time to declare that I freeze when scared?" He laughs nervously, eyeing the ground.
"It's okay, Carro," Charlotte said softly. "Don't think about getting hurt. You can do this. It's going to be okay."
Carro's, "I am not coming down until the dog stops threatening cats!!"
(Where'd @Victoria's post go?)
"Rain won't hurt you," said Charlotte as calmly as she could. "It's okay. I'm sure Fawn has a good hold on her. Besides, you're a human as well. I doubt Rain would attack you."
