A while later, Kasey gasped, shooting up into a sitting position. The nightmares had come again.
Liam blinked his eyes open when he felt Kasey sit up and looked confused as to why she looked scared.
"Kasey? Are you okay, what's the matter?"
Kasey wanted to squeeze her eyes shut, but if she did that then the dreams, the memories, would come back. She tried to calm her breathing a bit.
"It's nothing. I'm okay," she whispered.
"No, you're not. You had a nightmare, didn't you? And please don't lie, you don't have to tell me what it was just… did you or did you not?" Liam asked gently, rubbing circles on Kasey's back.
Reluctantly, Kasey nodded. She laid back down and stared up at the ceiling with a quiet sigh.
"I'm sick of them," she said, her voice thick with emotion.
Liam looked down at her and gave her an understanding smile, "I know. Tru- Yeah… they suck."
Kasey glanced over when he cut himself off. She frowned a bit before looking back up at the ceiling. If he wanted to tell her, he would.
"What are you frowning at?" Liam asked, rubbing at his face a little.
Kasey shrugged.
"Just wondering why you cut yourself off is all," she admitted.
"I-I was gonna say 'trust me' but decided against it." Liam admitted, shrugging a shoulder and looking away.
"Oh…" Kasey whispered, wincing. "Sorry…"
"You have nothing to be sorry for." Liam replied, looking back at Kasey.
(I've gtg to sleep… I'll try to be back in a few hours.)
"Yes, I do," Kasey argued, still whispering. "For not trusting you. For letting Matt get in my head."
(Alright, sleep well)
"I'm a damned reporter, you don't have to trust me if you don't want to!" Liam said rubbing his face.
(Thanks.)
Kasey flinched at his words. She sat up again and looked across the room before twisting her upper body to face Liam.
"You don't get it. It's not that I don't want to trust you, Liam, it's that I desperately do want to trust you," she whispered, looking a little hurt.
"But you can't bring yourself to do so." Liam sighed and looked up at the ceiling and pulled a knee to his chest, resting an arm on it as he an a hand through his hair.
"I don't know, Liam. Honestly, I'm kicking myself for letting his words get to me," Kasey sighed, looking down at her hands.
"Matt's a manipulative bastard, I don't blame you." Liam muttered, bringing his other knee to his chest.
Kasey nodded in agreement, staying silent for a few minutes. After a while, she finally spoke, her voice soft
"Hey, Liam?" she whispered without looking at him.
"Yes, Kasey?" Liam replied, letting out a deep breath.
"You know I love you, right?" Kasey asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she looked up at him.
Liam nodded, "I know you do." He replied softly.
Kasey nodded slowly.
"Good," she breathed, barely audibly.
"And I love you, too." Liam finally looked over at Kasey.
Kasey's lips twitched up in a slight smile. "Yeah?"
