“Fine. Now leave,” Kasey said between gritted teeth.
“Fine. Now leave,” Kasey said between gritted teeth.
Matt gave her a mock bow, before turning his back to her and walking to a black car not too far away. He was gone within seconds.
As soon as Matt was gone, Kasey quickly made her way back to Liam. She removed the mask as she ran, stuffing it into her pocket again.
“Liam?” she called out as she neared him.
Liam twisted around to look at Kasey, clearly having been lost in his own head. There were a few tear stains down his cheeks, and his eyes were slightly red but he didn't care, "Yeah?"
“I’m really, really sorry to pull you away… but we need to go home,” she breathed, eyes wide. She’d sent her power throughout the graveyard, making sure they were alone. “Matt showed up.”
Luckily there was no one else there at the moment. Liam frowned, standing and quickly wiping at his face, "What? Why was he here?"
“He— I’ll explain when we get home,” Kasey said as she looked around.
“Okay.. let’s go then.” Liam sniffled, though he took Kasey’s hand and gave hem a squeeze.
Kasey squeezed Liam’s hand back as they walked to the car. She continued to look around, making sure they were still alone.
“I’m sorry. I wouldn’t have interrupted you if that hadn’t happened,” she murmured.
“Kasey, I know, I get it. If it wasn’t serious then I know we wouldn’t be leaving yet. Don’t apologise.” Liam offered a tiny smile, though it didn’t last long.
Kasey sighed, nodding slowly. They reached the car, and she climbed into the driver’s seat and waited for Liam to get in before starting the car.
Liam climbed in the car a few moments later, buckling up. Of course, on all days, Matt had to show up on the one that was the most important for him.
Kasey glanced over at Liam when he got in, mumbled another apology, and started the car. How Matt had even found them was a mystery. How did he know so much about them?
Liam placed her hand on Kasey's thigh, giving it a small reassuring squeeze after her apology. Matt was a threat, and they had to get out of there before he could do anything to them.
Kasey looked over at Liam quickly before turning her eyes back to the road. She set a hand on his, gently squeezing it back.
Liam rested his head against the window, closing his eyes. A bad idea since well, his mind would wander and that was never good but he couldn't help it.
“He wanted me to join him. He said that if I did, I would be the only super, and therefore get a lot of money. I refused, of course,” Kasey said, her fingers tapping restlessly against the steering wheel.
Liam tilted his head slightly against the window to look at her, "Why would he ask that? And… and how did he know we were there?"
“I don’t know… and I have no idea,” Kasey whispered, her grip tightening on the steering wheel.
Liam gave her thigh a reassuring squeeze, “We’ll figure it out, as we always do.”
Kasey hummed in agreement. He was right. They would figure it out. They had to.
Liam sighed, turning back to the window. There had to be some way to get rid of Matt.
“How did he even get out in he first place… And why haven’t the authorities done anything about it?” Kasey wondered as they pulled into the parking lot.
Liam bit his lip, "He's probably got someone working for him on the inside. Or he's got some damn good lawyers."
“Let’s hope it’s something that we can deal with easily and get him back in jail,” Kasey murmured, parking the car.
