"Hunting" said Arthur simply, striding off into the trees like he owned them, stopping a few feet in to allow Mikhail a chance to catch up. "I don't know about you, but I'm hungry, and I really don't feel like going back into town."
"Hunting" said Arthur simply, striding off into the trees like he owned them, stopping a few feet in to allow Mikhail a chance to catch up. "I don't know about you, but I'm hungry, and I really don't feel like going back into town."
"Okay then, I can help if you want me to." Mikhail offered, following Arthur.
Arthur shrugged, "I think I can handle this one." he said, suddenly shifting to wolf form. He was now a large wolf, with fur the same color as his hair, and the amulet he never removed hanging around his neck.
Mikhail nodded, looking a bit surprised when he shifted to his wolf form.
Arthur glanced back at him, "I don't suppose I ever mentioned the wolf thing huh…." he said sheepishly.
"Yea, you never really did…" Mikhail answered. "Do you have any other powers that I should know about?"
"Aside form the fact that I am technically a useless fire element.. no." Said Arthur, watching him carefully.
"You're not useless," Mikhail replied, smiling at him.
"I'm the fire element who can't conjure a spark." said Arthur flatly. "In that aspect? Yea, I'm useless."
"But you have other powers and you're nice," Mikhail argued.
"Powers that I despise more than you could ever understand." said Arthur, padding over to Mikhail. "Powers that nearly took everything from me, and serve as nothing more than a reminder that i can't ignore, or get rid of."
"Stop trying to sell yourself short, it's not going to work," Mikhail said, bending down in front of him.
Arthur looked back at him, "I'm just telling you the truth." he said softly, before turning to pad off, "Either way I'm still hungry." he said, wanting to stay off the topic of what had happened to him for as long as possible.
Mikhail chuckled and followed him. "And I'm also telling you the truth."
Arthur's ears twitched, but he didn't respond. You might be my boyfriend, but you don't know half of what's happened to me… of what I've done. he thought.
He's still right.
No he isn't … I've done horrible things and you know it.
That wasn't your fault.
Yes it was! Arthur's tail flicked angrily at that.
No it wasn't. It wasn't you who did it. That was all Shadowfang.
Arthur froze at the name, forcing himself to keep going, even though his movements were forced. Memories flooded again.
"I still could've done more to stop that monster……" he said quietly to himself, not even realizing he'd said it aloud.
Mikhail looked up at Arthur when he heard him say something. "Hm?"
Arthur stopped in his tracks turning back sheepishly. "It was nothing.. don't worry about it.."
That was not nothing. Said the spirit, And it was a lie. You know full well you're lucky to have survived him with any scrap of sanity.
"Okay then," Mikhail muttered, making a small flame in his hands so he could see better.
Arthur looked back, sighing wistfully when he saw the warm flame.
I wish I could still do that…
Hey, be glad you're alive.
Is alive even worth it?
Yes. Yes it is.
What if you can't move on?
That's what you need to decide for yourself.
Mikhail glanced at Arthur and smiled at him awkwardly, not sure what to do.
Arthur sighed, picking up his pace as he focused on hunting. The one thing he rarely failed at.
Mikhail looked back at the ground and followed him awkwardly, letting the flame burn out in his hand when he remembered what Arthur had told him before.
Arthur eventually paused, before creeping forward. There was a pair of voles just beyond the next patch of brush. Suddenly he lept forwards. His jaws snapping around one and his paw slamming the other to the ground. In a matter of seconds both were dead.
Mikhail quickly looked away when Arthur had leaped forward to kill the wolves. He kept thinking of what Arthur had said before, feeling a bit guilty for using his fire magic.
Arthur sighed, dropping the one in his jaws. Shifting to human form he pulled out a dagger and began to field dress them. "Mikhail do you wanna grab some firewood while I take care of these?" he asked softly.
