Nathaniel cowered away from Lucifer, fearing his tone and glare. "I-I'm not sure, sir. J-Joan found him…"
Nathaniel cowered away from Lucifer, fearing his tone and glare. "I-I'm not sure, sir. J-Joan found him…"
Bad idea, Joan thought as she saw her father's temper rise. "Stop," She said before he could do anything.
"Joan?" Nathaniel turned towards her, against the wall since he had moved away from Lucifer. He was someone you didn't want to be on the bad side of.
"Yeah," She smiled down warmly at him. "Why don't you go up to my room and rebuild out fort?" Joanasked, pointibly not looking her dad.
"Okay." Nathaniel cast a fearful glance towards Lucifer before going to Joan's room and beginning to build the fort again clumsily. He had never really made a fort before, but it stood on its own, and he considered that an accomplishment.
"Really? Scaring Nash?" She asked. They continued to fight for a while until Joan stormed back up to her room, nearly knocking over the fort-and pulling over a bookshelf on wheels. "Wanna read?" She asked Nash.
"Oh! Yes, please!" Nathaniel loved reading. After Lloyd had died, it was the main thing he did since his trainer had allowed him some time off to mourn. He had read more books than he could count during that time.
Joan chuckled. "well, here you go," She said gesturing around the bookshelf-covered room. "I also have a library in the back," SHe whispered.
Nathaniel gasped a bit, excited. "Really? A whole library?" He looked at the spines of the books, running his fingers across the titles until he found something that piqued his interest.
"Yep, a whole library." Joan pulled her favorite book out from behind her pillow, and started to read.
He found an interesting book that he'd never heard of and sat next to Joan, silently flipping through the pages for quite a while. When he was reading, he sort of forgot that anyone or anything else existed. He was thoroughly immersed in the book.
After hours of reading it was starting to get late. "We should go to bed," Joan suggested-snapping out of her 'book world' as her father called it.
Nathaniel jumped a bit, startled by the sudden voice after the long silence. "Yes, ma'am." He put a bookmark in the page he was on and set the book down.
"Do you want to sleep in your own room?" Joan asked.
"Um, okay. I… didn't sleep in it last night, so I don't remember where it it." He flushed a bit when he remembered that he had fallen asleep here before, and that Will and Joan's father had come in. Perhaps sleeping in his own room would be for the best, since Lucifer seemed to be angry with him.
"It's down the stairs, third door to the right. If you see Will tell him his room is on the left of your. M'kay?" Joan hoped he remembered all of that.
"Er… down the stairs, third door to the right… have to remember that.." Nathaniel stood up awkwardly and waved goodbye to Joan. "Down the stairs, third door the the right… down the stairs, third door to the right…" He kept muttering the instructions to himself until he found the correct room and entered it. It was simple, with just a bed and a window, but Nathaniel liked it. He got into the bed and quickly fell asleep.
Joan called goodnight as Nash left. Where's Will? She thought-having not seen him since dinner. Her mind quickly shifted to sleep as she got into bed. Joan was not able to sleep however, and asked her dad questions mind to mind-as she can only speak with people she shared blood with.
Nathaniel woke up in the middle of the night and stared at the ceiling, reliving all the events of the past few days in his mind. He thought of Lloyd, how he injured his wings, trying to learn to fly again, being kidnapped… all of it. He sighed, exasperated with himself. There was no way he'd be able to sleep now. He tossed and turned until morning, getting nothing but a bit of fitful dozing.
Joan was up as soon as the stars begun to dull-here there was no sun, only crackling stars; and when they dulled, it would be day on the surface. She jumped from her bed, ran to her closet, and changed into a loose t-shirt and jeans. Not wanting to stay inside, she soared out the window-flying straight east. At one point she flipped onto her back, watching above while she flew. Joan watched as the stars dimmed, beginning to curl and disappear. This is home, she thought. Flying under the stars.
The hybrid flew to the exit of the Underworld. Without batting an eye flying to her cottage; and begun to brew. Joan searched her potion books for one that could give her the ability to look into people's heads that weren't family.
When Nathaniel could see the first glimmers of dawn he got up, rubbing his eyes in exhaustion. He was tired, but unable to sleep. He quietly walked up the stairs to Joan's room and opened her door as silently as he could, surprised to see her not there. He didn't think too much of it and grabbed his book from the previous night, beginning to read it again. Before long, his eyes grew heavy and he fell asleep as he was, leaning against the wall with a book in his lap.
(How does this sound so far? I think we're doing good) Joan eventually found one, you just have to touch them. She continued to brew it far into the day, it wasn't done until late at night. Joan packed it up into a termos and flew back. She was surprised to find Nash in her room-quickly laying him down and closing him book. "Good night," She whispered to him.
Joan had no idea what her potion would do if she brewed it incorrectly, however she drank it in one go before laying back down. Asleep in a matter of seconds. (I think we might need Will soon)
Nathaniel slept on the pillows from the fort. The book had distracted him from his other thoughts and allowed him to sleep better. The massive hoodie served well enough as a blanket for him, and he slept soundly for another hour or two.
(Good night)
