I guess I have to post now let me go do that))
Zane propped his notebook on his lap and folded his legs up so his feet rested on the same bench he sat on. A mocha had been placed enticingly at the male's left side so he could reach for it while still keeping a pencil in his hand, but ignored how he had himself put it there for convenience and instead picked it up with both hands and brought it up to his chest, basking in the warmth on his previously cold hands. Two months ago the sun's light had briefly stopped shining, something that made Zane a little sad, because he had always loved sunshine. He shook his head and took a sip of his drink. He placed it back at his side and brought a pencil up to the page, brushed a few hairs out of his eyes before lightly drawing a leafless and flowerless vine.
Jonah kept scrolling through the seemingly endless news articles, desperately searching for anything that could give him a lead. I'm just an investigator's assistant, so why did they give me such a huge case? Part of him was wondering if he was assigned it as a joke. Maybe it was worth talking to that girl that had been talking to herself. He stared at her as he tapped his fingers on the table, trying to get rid of his nerves so he wouldn't stumble too much when he spoke to her. She's just a human being, Jonah. Just go ask her if she knows anything.
She had been typing away, but stopped suddenly. "Wait-wait, what was I just saying?" she muttered, going back to her (really messy) notes. "Okay, so planets…" ((Inset the rest of her mumblings here because I actually don't know collage level astrology and I'm too lazy to google it right know))
Mood))
Zane's eyes wandered from his page to around the coffee shop. It was a pleasant place and it smelled good which were always the kind of things he looked for when trying to find a place to get his creative juices going. A few people sat around, he spotted a muttering girl surrounded by papers and coffee cups on her computer, probably doing work for school, and he also saw someone wearing a police badge with a doughnut in front of him, which made Zane giggle. A smile settled onto his face as he returned to his page and began sketching a rose onto the vine. I wonder if that police guy is a detective of some sort? Maybe he's researching what happened to the sun two months ago? Maybe I should ask him… He wondered, half looking at the man wearing the badge, half at the drawing before him.
Godammit Jonah just talk to her. She's like eighteen she shouldn't be hard to speak with. With that, he put his phone in his pocket and made his way over to the astrology girl, vaguely aware that he was a little hunched over. "Um….hello?" Jonah began, his voice quieter than he would have liked it to be. "I just overheard you and….well I wasn't eavesdropping! I swear! Anyway….you're studying astrology?"
She looked up, blinking in surprise. "Uh…yeah. Yeah, I am. Why?" She asked, tilting her head slightly. *Well, I mean, an officer talking to me and randomly asking about m,y major isn't the weirdest thing. * "Is there a problem, sir?"
Jonah glanced down at his badge again, then raised his hands defensively. "Oh! Oh, I'm not a cop. Sorry for any confusion…" He trailed off for a few seconds before remembering what he wanted to talk to her about. "I'm investigating…uh…the sun disappearance that happened….about a month ago I think? I was wondering if you knew anything about it since…well…astrology and all that."
He is investigating it! Zane clapped his hands together. Wait I'm eavesdropping this is rude, maybe I should stop. He looked at his drawing. It seemed boring compared to finding out what happened to the sun, so he very inconspicuously watched the two people through his bangs.
She shook her head. "Sorry, but the professor refuses to talk about it. I know about as much as anyone." She admitted, frowning. "Sorry about that. I'd kill to know what is happening though." She said, turning to look out the window. Really, though, what was stopping her from trying to find out herself, if her professor said nothing? "I'd be willing to help though, if you need it." She offered.
After jumping at the loud sound of someone clapping, Jonah nodded. "That would be great. I'm starting to think they assigned me this case as a joke, just to see how far I'd go with it." I'm not sure how much a young college student could help, but I'm willing to try anything after two months of nothing.
"Great." Raven said, smiling. "I might have some scrap paper if you want my number, or my e-mail, or whatever." She said, digging through the messenger bag on the floor next to her.
Jonah took his phone out of his pocket. "Actually, I can just enter your number right now." As soon as he turned on his phone, he noticed a text from his boss. Shoot, this is from an hour ago. She's going to be so mad at me… He tapped on the text and began reading the message to himself. Professor Diggins, one of the university's astrology professors, has agreed to speak with you about the sun going out. He was able to squeeze an hour into his schedule for you to speak with him. Get to it. Jonah shook his head. I feel like the library might have something better, but the professor could know something as well…
When Zane saw the man jump he immediately felt bad. "Sorry about that!" He called out. He tried to contain his curiosity, but he had already said something to the guy, so he put his pencil behind his ear and walked up to him. "I apologize for eavesdropping, but you're investigating how the sun kinda popped out of existence for a bit a while ago?"
"Uh…yes we were…talking about that." Jonah replied quietly, glancing at his phone nervously. His boss was usually right when it came to speaking with people about cases, but Jonah felt like he had done enough socializing for today. Professor or library. Professor or library…
"It's fucking weird. Breaks all known laws of science." She said offhandedly, turning back to her computer. "I mean, matter can't be created or destroyed, energy can't be destroyed, that's not even astrology. That's physics. And even if it did explode-which it wasn't due to do for another few billion years- we would know. We would be dead. Unless that happened and we're in some weird after life where we don't know we're dead, but I doubt that."
Jonah showed his phone to the two strangers. "Well my boss, who is technically supposed to be working this case, said we could go speak to one of the professors and she's almost always right." He paused, then pointed to the girl he had just met. "However, you said that the professors weren't helping so….maybe we could figure something out at the library? What do you guys think?" Jonah had just accepted the two of them as part of the group now.
(This is the first major decision in the rp! These decisions will lead to important clues and items, and eventually lead to a certain ending depending on what we chose as a group.)
"Well, he might say more to a detective than the class. Maybe you can talk to him and we'll check the library? I have a book to return anyway." She said, looking up. "Also, I'm there often enough that the librarian likes me. She can help us." She smiled, tapping her pen against her chin absently.
"So…to Professor Diggins I guess. Any idea where his class is?" Jonah asked, looking around. He barely knew anything about the nearby college campus.
"Main building, room 201." She said, closing her laptop and stowing it away.
"Yeah…I still don't know what that means…" Jonah admitted, shoving his phone in his pocket. "I guess you're leading."
She shrugged, putting the rest of the books away. "Okay then." She said, going to throw out the empty cups.
(I have to go for now, sorry. We'll continue later!)
