"Sounds like you are both sick." Jay said and tried not to breath in the smell.
"Sounds like you are both sick." Jay said and tried not to breath in the smell.
"I'm fine, I'm used to it." Kale huffed, shoving their hands into their pockets. "I'm used to all of it." They mumbled to themselves, forcing the tears to stay inside.
"Why are you crying?"
Kale watched as the houseparents exited the hall, shooing the other kids to their rooms. "I don't cry."
"you do so cry." Jay said quietly.
"Yes you do."
"Jay? When have you ever heard me cry?" Kale crosses their arms, frowning slightly.
"well because I am blind and not deaf. Though many believe I am. I heard you crying a few nights ago. In the bathroom."
"I don't remember that, therefore it didn't happen." Their eyes narrowed and their hands began shaking. "I don't cry, okay? Why would I show weakness in front of those I want to be strong for?"
Jay nodded a bit.
"Now your hands are shaking."
"No they're not!" They clenched their hands into fists, digging their nails into their palms. "I'm not weak like that."
Jordan raised a brow. He walks over to Kale, shaking his head, "What's going on?"
Jay just stood there listening.
"Nothing, I'm fine." They turned their head away from Jordan. "We should go."
"Kale." Jordan sighs, "What's wrong?"
Jay moved towards them suddenly and put on hand on one of Jordan and Kale's shoulders. "Both of you shush for a second. I think I heard something about a missing kid."
Their eyes widened in shock but they kept quiet.
Jordan flinches at the contact but was silent
"someone disappeared. They were seen at breakfast but now their location is unknown."
Jordan looks at the others
Kale mouthed. 'The window.'
"I told you." He whispers
"they don't know how they got out but they presume…… Out the front door." Jay said after a moment.
"So do you think they're unaware of the window?"
