The boy’s eyes widened in delight. “Me? *Really?!” He exclaimed, seeming very excited.

Sam frowned at Lucy. "No, I've got it. You aren't moving." He set his plate to the side and got up, walking into the kitchen. He debated making tea but Orion would probably kill him for using it. He looked around, trying to think of a way to get the water without hurting himself. He spotted a towel and put it around his hand, then got a glass and filled. He felt a vague fear creep up on him but he ignored it, returning to give Lucy the glass
"Yeah," she agreed awkwardly. Orion, please hurry.
"Don't tell anyone else I asked this, especially not the lady who works here…" she started. Seeing the boy nod, she asked a single question.
"Are there any more of you here who have… special abilities?" she asked in a whisper.
Orion continues to distract the woman, giving Lata time to ask around the kids.
Lucy took the glass from Sam, taking a long drink before setting the glass aside. “Thank you.. You could have hurt yourself, that why I offered,” she commented, crossing one of her legs over the other.
The boy bit his lip, thinking as he fiddled with his fingers. “I think so,” he whispered softly. “But Mrs.Quill doesn’t like us talking about that..”
(Lata: F*** Mrs. Quill, are there more or no?)
"Can you show me who they are? I won't tell anyone. In fact… I have a bit myself," she whispered.
Sam rolled his eyes, going back to his food. "Doesn't matter," he said before starting to eat again
“What do you mean? I think it matters,” Lucy mumbled, moving the plate back to her lap and taking another small bite of the food.
“You do?” The boy gasped quietly. He nodded quickly, pulling her towards the door. “Mrs. Quill, may I be excused to my room?”
“Of course, Ben,” the woman responded with a smile.
The boy, who was called Ben, pulled Lata along to where the bed rooms were. “She put us together in a room.”
Sam rolled his eyes, deciding food was more interesting than arguing
Lucy sighed softly, looking back down at the food. Why did he have to act so complicated all of the time? she thought, frowning softly to herself. She shook off the thoughts, telling herself that it wasn’t her problem, not her issue to worry about. She just concentrated on finishing her food.
Sam finished his food relatively quickly. He got up to get more, and almost sat down before deciding to raid Orion's tea storage. He grabbed a random tea bag out of a box and found a cup, filling it with water before heating it in his hand. He sat back down on the floor, careful not to spill the tea
Lucy finished her food, setting the plate aside on a small table. She then picked up the water glass, finishing the rest quickly. She was unsure of what to do now. Sam didn’t seem to want to hold up a simple conversation. She had thought he was opening up slightly when they had spent a bit of time together, but she now assumed that she had been wrong. Instead, she reached down, digging through the satchel that was on the floor by the couch and took out her spell book. She’s bit the inside of her cheek, flipping to the last white page, staring at the many black ones by it. She had felt useless during the attack. She couldn’t even defend herself when she needed to. Maybe if she just took a quick look…
"Dark magic? Really?" Sam asked, not even looking up from his food
“You’re one to talk, you killed people.. I couldn’t even defend myself against a damn vase,” Lucy said, her voice a bit more sharp than she had meant it to be. She flipped way the white pages, eyes squinting at the white writing on the black page. The first pafe was something like a warning.
(oh. Also I'll be back after class)
(Okay)
(hello I return from driver's ed) Sam frowned. "I'm a guardian. A gatekeeper. It's different. Killing people is in the job description. And you were snuck up on," he argued
“I need to learn how to defend myself. I was taught a few things around a year ago, basic sparring, but that can’t help me as much,” Lucy said, ignoring him as she turned the page.
"I could show you a few things. I specialize more in magic than hand to hand combat, at least in this form," Sam offered
“Mm, Maybe. Sparring wasn’t particularly fun, I had my arm broken once and my shoulder messed up more times than I can remember..” Lucy muttered.
"You obviously had a horrid teacher," Sam said. He was tempted to get a third plate of food, but felt he should leave some for the others. He chugged his tea instead, getting up to make more
(Sorry I vanished, I went out for a while with a friend after school.)
“My teacher was particuarly nice, actually. You remind me of him. The other man I sparred with after learning, he was the rough one,” Lucy responded, shaking her head slowly as bad memories filled her mind. “He was a great person, one of my closest friends. He just got a bit carried away, is all..”
"A lack of self control means he's a bad teacher."
“He wasn’t my-,” Lucy paused, taking a deep breath to calm herself. “He did get a bit carried away, but he made up for it afterwards.”
He gave her a sort of knowing look. "What was he then?"
