Danielle raised her brow a bit, suddenly realizing that Marcus was probably freaking out right about now. "Oh cool! I dragged one of my three besties here. They all would've come, but the others had their own plans, so.." She shrugged a bit. "My bro got put in Cabin 3. You got any friends here?"

Marcus thought about backing out at the last second and just pretending that he was going somewhere else, but he tried to keep his panicked breathing at a minimum as he stood by the bed, wringing his hands nervously. Bad idea, keep going, bad idea, keep going, bad idea-.

"Yeah, I have a lot of friends from previous years, and one of my best friends is in Cabin 3, too." Annika said.

Otis was empathetic towards Marcus. He knew what it felt like to panic, but he had no idea what to do, so he waited.

"Neeaat. Hey, speaking of them, any idea when we get to leave?" Danielle asked, glancing out the window. "My poor guy is probably freaked out right now, being around so many new people without me with him."

Marcus felt like crying as he tried to think of something to say, but he willed himself not to just run off or go back up to his own bed. Instead, he just let out a quiet breath and waved awkwardly.

"Heh, I know how you feel. But the girls and guys don't do many combined things, except activities and swimming. They are in the same room for meals, but they're not allowed to sit together. Sorry, Danielle." Annika said sympathetically.

Otis couldn't stand it anymore. He felt horrible, knowing that Marcus was going through something that Otis had been through so many horrible times. He could tell that Marcus wanted to cry, so he mustered up all of his courage. "Hey…you okay?" he said in a calm, compassionate voice.

Danielle winced a bit. "Oof, yeah, that's…not the best thing. I just hope he'll be okay. I mean, as long as I get to see him and we can talk and..I can keep him from trying to run all the way back home, I think it'll be fine." She gave a smile, only half-joking about the last part.

Marcus made a small noise as he looked at the floor. He barely heard the question, and he accidentally shook his head before quickly changing it to a nod. Bad idea, very bad idea!

"Yeah…" Annika said. "So, do you sing or play an instrument?"

"Alright.." Otis said, remembering the last time he panicked.

Danielle leaned back on her hands. "I sing a little, but no instruments. I saw your guitar, though, so I'm guessing you play?"

Marcus suddenly had to snap his eyes closed, and he furrowed his brow as a blink out a few tears. Wha-when did that even happen?! He gasped quietly, quickly making his way back up to his bed. Trying to speak in front of a new person was scary, but crying in front of that person was even worse. Especially if all they had done was ask if you were okay, and all you had done was wave at them. He laid back against the bed board, grabbing his pillow and holding in over his face.

“You bet I do!” Annika said, pulling out her black guitar case and lifting out her acoustic guitar, beginning to tune it. “So, um, what books are you reading?” Annika asked, not quiet knowing what to say.

Otis stood on the bedframe and pulled himself up, holding onto the rails on Marcus’ bed. “H-hey…are you sure you’re okay?” he asked with great compassion and empathy. He usually wouldn’t have asked that, but he couldn’t just let him there.

Danielle giggled at Annika's attempt to keep up the conversation. "Not many, right now, but there's this one called Island of the Blue Dolphins that's got my attention. Actually, I think I brought it with me..hang on-" She moved to the edge of the bed, reaching for a shelf, and pulled a paperback book from it. "It's about this girl, Karana, who gets stuck on her tribe's island and has to survive on her own until the people who took her tribe to a new home come back for her." Danielle explained, showing the book to Annika.

Marcus peeked over the pillow, staring at Otis for a second before rubbing at his eyes. "Y-yeah…I'm sorry.." He breathed.

“That sounds like a nice book. And before you ask what I’m reading, I read every book I can get my hands on.” she said as she pulled out a book in the Chronicles of Narnia series.

“Don’t be. I know how you feel.” Otis said, staying up for a few seconds, then began to go down to his bed.

"Ooo! I haven't read that; what's it about?" She asked, resting her head in her hands.

Marcus sniffled a little as he moved the pillow further. "You- w-wait-" He moved closer to the side of the bed, gripping the rail. "W-what do you mean?"

(pfft, it's fine)

“So, there’s these 4 kids, and they find a wardrobe with a fantasy land inside. And an evil witch tries to keep it winter all the time but then there’s this lion and stuff. It’s really hard to explain.” Annika replied, handing her book so she could read the back.

Otis chewed on his lip for a few seconds. “N-nothing…It’s just that I know what you’re going through. It’s-it’s no big deal…” he said.

Danielle inspects the cover for a moment, then turns the book over. "Ooohh, cool. Definitely my kind of book." She says, mostly to herself. She hands it back to Annika, watching her mess with the guitar, then she pointed to it. "What songs do you know?"

"Oh.." He nodded slightly, looking down at the bed. "Um..I-I'm sorry for..for crying."

"Well, my old guitar teacher told me that I was 'tune-smart', so if you play a song a few times I could probably know it. I know a fair amount, actually." Annika said, careful not to brag.

"No, it's-it's fine…you couldn't help it." Otis said, making his way down to his bed once more.

"So like, if I sang a song, you'd be able to learn it on the guitar pretty quick?" (I keep spelling 'guitar' with an 'e' instead of an 'a' XD)

Marcus took a breath, watching him, then leaned over so Otis could hear him. "I-I..my name's Marcus."

"Probably, unless it's like, really high pitched or weird. This one girl in my like, fourth year sang this werid Japanese song and I'm just like…no."

Otis looked up and offered a shy smile. "I'm Otis."

Danielle snickered. "That's awesome. I thought about trying drums once, but..I was kinda lazy." She giggled awkwardly, then cleared her throat. "But music's not really my thing, anyway; that's more Marcus' department. And River's, they sounds really good together…" She started trailing off, gazing out the window again.

Marcus returned the smile, then looked behind him at the window. "Um..d-do you when we're gonna get to go out? My friend got put in a different cabin a-and I…kinda need her." He asked, twiddling his fingers.

“I-I’m not following this very well…who?” Annika asked.

“I don’t know.” Otis said,looking at a small digital clock that another camper had brought. “Maybe in like, 5 minutes?” he said. “Probably for swimming.” he said quietly.
Just as Otis finished, Benjamin the senior counselor said, “Boys, get into your swimsuits. Pool time’s n 5 minutes.” he said. Otis went into a shower stall and came out wearing a white swim top with a green stripe on either side and some matching green swim trunks.

Jackie the senior counselor told the girls to get ready for swimming, too.

Danielle shook her head. "Sorry; my friends." She said quietly, listening to the counselor. Sweet. She thought as he jumped off the bed and grabbed her bag, then headed out of the room to change. When she came back, she was in a purple one-piece that had a black heart on the chest, a dip in the back, and a skirt attached.

Marcus tilted his head a bit, grinning at Otis' swimming outfit. "Cool." He said, then grabbed his bag from the hook next to his bed and went to change as well. Oh…of course. When he checked the bag, the swimwear he had packed was replaced with a different set he own, and he could only guess who had put it there. Keeping his eyes down, he came out in a cyan top with a white heart pattern, and matching trunks that had white stripes down the sides.

"I like your swimsuit." Annika said as she came out of the bathroom wearing a blue tye-die tankini with ruffles.

Otis smiled, trying to keep from laughing. "Sisters?" he asked as Marcus came out.

"Thanks, I like yours, too." Danielle said, smiling as she put her bag away. "Really pretty."

Marcus sighed, putting his reddening face in his hands. "Pretty much." He said. "D-do I..look weird?"

"Thanks." Annika said, getting her towel and sliding on her cyan flipflops.

Otis winced sympathetically. "Um…you-you can borrow one of my old shirts if you want…" he offered.
