(yep!)
The next day, Allyanna was gone when Al woke up. There were two plates of food- breakfast and lunch- and a device with an arrow drawn pointing at a button. There was a short written note in Allyanna's language, no words were quite recognizable to Al yet.
Al yawned and stretched. She got up and called for Allyanna, concluding she'd already left for work when she received no response. Al meandered out into the kitchen. They saw the food and smiled, approaching the table. When she saw the note, she tried to decipher it but couldn't, and attempted to pronounce the words for the translator
The sounds were difficult, not many of them coherent through Al's speech yet. The note also had an arrow pointing to the device, probably an audio version of the note. Allyanna had written out the note, and recorded it for the translator, so Al could practice more with seeing them, it seemed. The button the arrow pointed at as probably the 'start' button.
She hit the button, listening for whatever it had to say
It took a second, but the translator picked it up.
"Al, this is Allyanna. I cooked breakfast and lunch, should be home in time for dinner. The note is the same as this recording, so you can practice. If you want to listen to the recording without a translator, I left the toggle under the recorder. Press the blue button. I left paper for you in the same spot as last time. I will be back, remember to be careful when touching things."
Al nodded as she listened to the recording. She got the paper and pencil and began writing things down as she replayed the message over and over while she ate her breakfast. Then she saw movement outside the window
Outside, a being similar to Allyanna was outside. They were similar in size, with the same hair texture and ears, and something floating over their head. Unlike Allyanna's double crescent though, this person's seems to be some sort of star, almost looking like a sun rising over the horizon. It was pointly though, giving the slight suggestion of a crown. Their skin was slightly lighter, their hair, ears, eyes, and floating thing all in a warmer color palette- oranges, reds, small amounts of yellow. They knocked on the door, calling out. If Al had turned the translator off, she would be able to understand them, other than Allyanna's name. If she had kept it on, she wouldn't have caught much more, but the translator would have caught "okay? ⦠Saw⦠Window⦠Usually .. work⦠Time." The speech was obviously not complete, the translator only hearing some of the words.
Al panicked, scrambling to find a place to hide. She ran into her room and dropped flat to the the floor, like a soldier dropping to plank position during drill. She tucked herself under her bed and pushed boxes and the suitcase under there infront of her, attempting to conceal herself
The alien listened for a response, before jiggling the door. The front door was locked, but the alien went around to a side door, one they apparently had a key to, and came in, calling out again. (Is the translator on, or had Al turned it off?)
(its on, but i doubt it's catching everything clearly. she turned off the voice note though) Al kept hidden, steadying her breathing to almost none as she sat still)
(In that case, the alien probably heard translate, though it wouldn't know what it was being translated to.)
The alien frowned. "Allyanna? I thought you did not have a specimen at home right now? Specimen? If you are here, I must insist you make yourself known." Under their breath, they murdered "possible.. repair.. forgot" probably wondering if it had been malfunctioning, Allyanna had turned it on to repair it, and forgotten to turn it off
Al very quickly turned the translator off, clutching her hand over her mouth
The alien looked around, not in-depth, but making sure there wasn't an intruder. "Allyanna?" The translator wasn't needed for that one, but noticed the absence of it. Their voice raised, their floating thing raising, their ears flattening, and they said something worriedly.
Al stiffened. Her heart pounded as she watched them walk around from under the bed, praying she wouldn't be discovered
The alien called out again, touching some things and making them float. They were looking around, trying to find an intruder.
She closed her eyes, hoping they wouldn't move the boxes under the bed
Eventually, the alien pulled out a device and called Allyanna, soon leaving. They walked out, the door closing, but they seemed to stay near the house.
Al stayed hidden. She wasn't coming out until she was certain it was safe. She eventually fell asleep
It wasn't long until Allyanna came home. Unable to find Al, she turned the translator back on and called out. "Al? Are you okay? I am so sorry, I forgot that Calabeni had a key in case of emergency. You can come out now, it is safe."
It was earlier than she had come home the day before, it seemed like she had come home as soon as this 'Calabeni' has called her.
(It took me a good minute to figure out what the other aliens name should be)
Al stirred, pushing aside the boxes and rolling out from under the bed. She sat up, stretching her arms
Allyanna saw her and smiled softly. "Smart place to hide. I am glad you are okay." She said, sitting down on the bed. "I had to make up a story to my friend that I was watching someone's pet, and I had to tell my boss that a robber had broken into my house-"
She sighed. "I mean, I kinda would be some kinda exotic pet" she giggled
"Unfortunately, yes, that would be a possibility" Allyanna said with a sigh. "I am trying not to let that happen."
Al's smile dropped a bit, seeing Allyann did not find this funny. The human was a strange little creature, almost kidlike in its emotional mannerisms. "What do you think would happen if your people found out the Milky way is a real galaxy?"
"Send a crew to each planet, moon, dwarf planet, and astroid to scope them out, make note and get a sample of any and all living things they find, possibly colonize the planets if they seem suitable for our life. Not good things." Allyanna said, ears flattening.
She nodded, her face grim. "Yeah.. it absolutely would be, seeing as yours suits me. I think its best if neither of our species finds out about the other.." Al said, thinking about the human tendency to take things over. "Humanity would try to colonize you too"
Allyanna looked up. "Well. That complicates things a bit. If you go home with information about this planet, your people will know about mine. If you do not, you could get in trouble. If you stay here, you might be discovered."
Al nodded, thinking. "I could say there was no life on this planet?" She suggested. "I could report your environment, leave out the presence of oxygen, and tell them there was no intelligent life"
"Have your species not found out how to make oxygen yet? That might workβ¦ But what if they get curious? The best way to ensure they do not come is to make it seem like the planet's atmosphere is extremely volatile and there is no way to land, and the glasses are toxic, so even if they did land, they could not live here. But if that were the case, you would not make it back. So we can not do thatβ¦"
Allyanna sighed, her ears dropping. "I am sorry about this mess.."
