Meg’s smile grows. “That must be nice too. And bright with all those colors you have.” she giggles.
Meg’s smile grows. “That must be nice too. And bright with all those colors you have.” she giggles.
He chuckles, “Yes…it is…” he smiles at her.
Meg smiles back before looking at the sky again. “I wish… Uhh, have you ever tried drawing with charcoal?” she asked instead of completing her first sentence.
He smiles, “yes…but what were you about to say?”
She shook her head. “Oh, it's nothing.” she answered quickly.
He raises an eyebrow.
“It's silly.” she adds, blushing faintly.
He chuckles, “Say it anyway…”
Meg groans as her blush darkens. “It's just… I've never used color in my pictures.” she mutters. “Charcoal is easy enough to come by and I'm good with it but… I can't draw something like this with charcoal and do it justice.” she explains, gesturing at the setting sun.
He hums, making a face. He then smiles. “Well…maybe someday…” he relaxes.
Meg shakes her head and leans back. “That would be nice. But I'm not going to expect it to happen.” she admits before looking at Aaron firmly. “And I don't want you to give me any of yours. I just told you because you're as stubborn as I am and wouldn't stop until I told you.”
He chuckles, “Oh alrightttt. You already spoil my plans…”
“I saw the look on your face.” she chuckles.
He laughs softly, smiling.
Just then, a booming voice called out to Aaron, followed by clanking metal. “Prince Aaron! There you are! The king and queen were searching everywhere for you!”
Aaron jumps, looking at them and going pale. shit…
Meg jolts at the call and sound of guards suddenly approaching. Though once she realized what the guard had said, she turned to the man beside her. “Prince Aaron? You're the prince?” she asked in disbelief.
He whines, panic in his eyes.
The guard who called his name walks up to him. “Yes. He is. And the king and queen are worried sick.”
Aaron rubs his forehead.
“Are you alright?” she asked gently, seeing the look on his face and not paying attention to the guard at the moment.
He sighs, “I-“ he bites his lip.
The guard frowns. “Do you feel ill?”
Aaron sighs, “i was feeling fine until you showed up!”
Meg watched the two in confusion but didn't interrupt them.
The guard sighs, “I’m sorry Prince Aaron…but you must come home…you may discuss with the king and queen about this situation later.”
Aaron sighs, looking at Meg. “I am…so sorry…” he mutters, standing.
Meg nodded, biting her tongue to keep from accidentally saying something that she would regret later.
He sighs and rushes past the guards. It…looked like he was crying. The guards followed him after nodding to the girl.
Aaron walks into the palace. “Mother! Father! I’m fine! Why do you constantly have to worry yourselves with me?!”
They look at him and frown. His mother speaks up, “My son…you are sickly…and you never know who could harm you! If you wish to speak with someone then you can be accompanied by a guard.”
Aaron shakes his head. “I don’t want people judging me just because they know I’m the prince! I want to make friends with someone who doesnt care! Who doesnt know my status!” He huffs and storms off to his room without another word.
Maybe he could explain to meg tomorrow…he just hoped his new found friendship wasn’t ruined…
Meg nodded in return to the guards and left shortly after they did. She hoped that Aaron, Prince Aaron, wasn't upset because of her. That’s what she had been hoping to avoid. A part of her had wanted to snap whether the apology had been for the guards showing up or because he hadn't told her that he was royalty.
As soon as she got back to her home, she went straight to her room and looked out the window.
Early in the morning, Aaron snuck out once again, looking extremely tired. He walks over to where he assumed she lived and knocks on the door. He sucks in a breath, adjusting his gloves.
Fortunately, Meg was a light sleeper so she heard the knock. She quickly grabbed a blanket and answered the door. “Oh, uh… What are you doing here so early?” she asked, keeping her voice down.
He sighs, keeping his voice to a whisper. “I just…wanted to apologize…for lying…and- just for any other inconvenience…” he frowns. “I…didn’t want you treating me differently just because i was royalty…”
Meg let out a slow breath and nodded. “Would you like to come in?” she offered, opening the door wider for him. “We can talk more privately.”
He nods, “Yes please…” he waits for a moment, then steps in.
Meg gives him a small smile and let the door close once they were inside. “Please, take a seat anywhere.”
He bites his lip, then sits in a small chair. It…seemed like he was trying to take up as little space as possible. He sighs. “I…understand if you’re upset with me…”
