“Oh, hello, sir. What can I help you with?” a kind-looking older woman asked as she brought out a basket of fresh bread.
“Oh, hello, sir. What can I help you with?” a kind-looking older woman asked as she brought out a basket of fresh bread.
He smiles at the woman. “Hello madam. I met your lovely daughter a couple of days ago and I was wondering if I may take her on a stroll this evening. I was also curious about this lovely bakery you have.” He adjusts his gloves, putting his hands behind his back.
“Oh! You're the young man that she drew.” Meg’s mother smiled. “She doesn't know I saw the pictures but I have to say that the drawing of her was very well done.” she chuckled. “She should be here in just a moment. Feel free to look around while you wait.”
He bows slightly, thanking the woman and looking around the bakery.
When Meg walked in she was carrying what looked to be a fairly heavy load of firewood but she was not showing much strain for the weight of it.
(Sorry i was gone! I was super busy!)
Aaron turns and smiles. “Would you like any help? You do seem to be doing just fine on your own, but I at least want to offer.”
(no worries!)
“Oh, Aaron!” she exclaimed, fortunately managing not to drop any of the wood. “I wasn't expecting you so soon.” Meg apologized before shaking her head. “Thank you for your offer but I can handle these.”
He smiles softly and nods. “Let me know if you change your mind.” He looks towards Megs mother. “I’d like to purchase these, please.” He holds up two croissants.
Meg smiles back, blushing softly. “I’ll be right back.” she says as she takes the wood to the next room.
“Oh, no charge for you today, my good man.” Meg’s mother beams. “It's been so long since my daughter spent time with anyone. I was afraid she would turn into a hermit before too much longer.”
Aaron laughs softly. “Well then, thank you madam.” He smiles brightly, placing them in his bag. At least she wouldn’t see just how much money he brought. He didn’t want any more suspicions.
“My pleasure.” the older woman nodded politely. “I’m so glad to see my Meg has a friend again.”
“Mother.” Meg scolded, blushing as she returned.
Aaron laughs softly, “I’m afraid I have very little friends as well. So I do relate to her.” He smiles brightly at the woman. “It was a pleasure meeting you, Ma’am.” He bows slightly.
“A pleasure to meet you, sir.” she smiled.
“Are you ready, then, sir Aaron?” Meg asked, brushing some small pieces of wood off her dress and sleeves.
He smiles and nods, offering his arm. “Of course.”
Meg knows she should have expected the gesture, especially from a gentleman like Aaron, but it still catches her off guard for a moment. Her expression doesn't last long before she smiles politely back and accepts his arm. “Thank you.”
He smiles back, thanking her mother and then walks out. “So, how are you this evening?”
“I’m quite well.” she answers calmly. “How are you?”
He hums, “I’m alright. Much better now that i get to walk with a wonderful woman such as yourself.” He smiles. He wasn’t lying…he felt a lot less sick.
“Flatterer.” Meg can't help but giggle. “But I am glad that you are well.” she admits.
He chuckles. “I speak the truth, m’lady.” He smiles, walking down a beautiful flower lined path in a park. He wanted to always speak the truth, but sometimes it was best to lie. Even if he had to deal with the guilt.
“How you perceive the truth, you mean.” she teases. “I do think that is an admirable thing. But you should know that I am no great lady.” Meg points out. “Everyone just thinks of me as a simple girl and I… after hearing it for so long, you start to believe it.”
He rolls his eyes. “Then do not believe those fools.” He looks at her. “I care much more on personality anyway. Beauty is a plus. And my dear, you have that beauty.”
Meg felt herself flush at the compliment and surprisingly kind words. “You care about me?” she asks, barely managing to meet his gaze. “We just met two days ago and barely know each other.”
He smiles. “I just like how wonderful you seem to be…you didn’t immediately question me or judge me…and we share similar interests…that’s something to care about…”
Meg shook her head, stubbornly denying his words. “I had a few questions when we met. But I will agree that we both enjoy art. Is that really enough?” she asked, trying not to sound earnest.
He laughs softly, “oh i see youre just as stubborn as i am…” he smiles brightly. “I just enjoy how wonderful you are…is that too little or too much?”
Meg blushed at being called stubborn but she wasn't going to argue. “I… I don't know.” she answered. “It doesn't seem like enough. Especially when I'm not as wonderful as you think I am.”
He rolls his eyes, a playful tone in his voice. “Are you challenging me?” He smirks.
Meg shook her head. “No, I'm not challenging you.” she chuckled. “Just making a point.”
He laughs softly, “ah i see…well your point in invalid.”
