"Like, thirty minutes or so." He yawned and stretched. "Dunno how far it is from here."
"Like, thirty minutes or so." He yawned and stretched. "Dunno how far it is from here."
"Considering traffic, about 24 minutes or so" Carter shrugged, hopping off the counter and grabbing both sets of keys.
"Alright, we should probably get going then." Nathaniel got up and followed Carter. "How many cars do you have?"
"2 my shit day ride, and the one I drive for my job" He hummed, walking outside to the alley where a shitty blue car sat.
Nathaniel nodded, keeping close. Once Carter was in the car, he got into the passenger side, making sure to buckle himself in. "It looks nice to me. What did you say your job was?"
"I don't think I did. but, I drive, that's all that matters" he hummed, putting the car in gear and pulling out of the alley.
"Um… alright." Nathaniel shrugged and watched out the window as they drove. He took his hat out of his bag and put it on so he'd be ready for work.
"Sadly, this car doesn't have a radio. So.. yep" He said slowly, playing with the gear shift.
"That's fine, I don't mind." Nathaniel smiled softly to reassure Carter. "Thanks for driving me, I really appreciate it." He said once they'd arrived at the Cafe where he worked.
Carter nodded, "what time do you get off?" He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel.
"I get off at five." Nathaniel replied, adjusting the strap of his bag over his shoulder as he got out of the car.
"I will see you then" carter smiled.
"See you! Thanks again!" Nathaniel smiled in return, waved, and headed into the Cafe.
Carter nodded, waiting a moment before driving back to his apartment.
At five, Nathaniel came out of the Cafe, looking a bit stressed and with light pink blotches on his cheeks.
Outside of the Cafe sat a black sports car with black windows and an orange pinstripe across the side. The kind of car that made people think it was 'daddy's money'. The door opened and Carter stepped out, now wearing a black trench coat and sunglasses. "hey" he smirked at Nathaniel.
"Hey…" Nathaniel did his best to return the smile and then got into the car, not having much reaction to it. He really didn't know anything about cars; all cars seemed pretty nice to him. He rubbed at his eyes with one hand and sighed.
Carter sighed, getting back in the car and turning the radio down before starting it, otherwise it would have been blaring music. "rough day?" He asked pulling away from the cafe.
"Mm…" Nathaniel hummed in response and leaned back, staring at the ceiling. "People suck. Dunno why they feel the need to scream at me for stuff I didn't even do… I'm literally sixteen. These people are yelling at actual children over coffee."
"least they don't throw things at you" he shrugged, "so, do you want to go back to the apartment or come with me to work? I am just standing by today, not working"
"They do sometimes… I've had drinks thrown in my face before." Nathaniel toyed with his sleeves, looking down at his hands quietly. "I don't mind coming with you if you want."
"hm, I have had plenty of glass bottles thrown at me, I have battle scars" he joked, moving his hair to show two scars on his ear, "It would be easier to just go to work, but it's a bit of a drive there."
"I'm glad we don't sell anything with glass, at least…" Nathaniel laughed weakly. "I don't mind, anything is fine with me really."
"yeah, that'd be rough" he chuckled, turning onto a different road and driving away from the city. "I was hoping you'd come with, it'd be less work for me" he shrugged.
"That's fine." Nathaniel yawned and rested his head against the window, slowly starting to relax as Carter drove. He didn't look up again until the car had stopped.
Carter had driven to an area in the suburbs, where a bunch of cars and people were, there was a tent that had a table and official looking people, Carter parked behind the tent, where only 1 other car sat. He killed the engine and then reached into the backseat grabbing his mask.
Nathaniel looked around curiously, still not quite sure where he was or what they were doing here. He watched Carter for a moment, shifting his wings. "Um… do you want me to stay in the car? I don't want to get in the way of… whatever is happening."
"you can if you want. I am just here to fill out some papers and maybe watch the race," he shrugged, putting the mask on. He got out of the car, walking over to the tent and talking to the person at the table.
"Okay…" After some consideration, Nathaniel figured it would be best to stay in the car. He didn't want to get in Carter's way or annoy him by basically clinging to his side to avoid getting lost. So, he occupied himself with listening to music on his phone while he preened his wings.
Carter came back a few minutes later sitting in the car with papers, throwing his mask in the backseat. "I have a race later, which is not what I signed up for, but, I can't turn down a challenge. Oh well." he muttered, shaking his head. "do you want me to take you home?" he asked.
