"R-Right…" Even just the thought of a multiple day flight made Rowan feel queasy. "I don't think that would go very well…" He continued to pet Fluff. "How long does it take to walk? Or drive?"
"R-Right…" Even just the thought of a multiple day flight made Rowan feel queasy. "I don't think that would go very well…" He continued to pet Fluff. "How long does it take to walk? Or drive?"
"To walk would take a few weeks. With horses..? Just a few more days than flying." Fluff purred gently, nuzzling close to Rowan. He really did like the human, it seemed.
"Alright, um… I've never ridden a horse before, but I'm sure I can figure it out, yeah? Horses are tall, though… hopefully I won't have too much trouble with that."
"Well, I could help you with it! Perhaps for the first couple of days you could ride with me?" Matthew hummed a bit as he thought about what they would need to pack. For that long of a trip, he'd need to bring Sir Fluff too, and that's even more things to bring…
"Um… that's fine with me, I guess… how many days exactly do you think it would be? Where would we sleep?" Rowan asked. "Obviously we're going to have to sleep at least a few times…"
"We'd camp, of course. I have a tarp we could use…" Matthew smiled gently. "Here, it'll be an adventure. Well, more of a one than you're already on."
"Sure, why not? Why don't you have any mages in this particular city, though?" He asked, continuing to gently pet Fluff with one hand.
"We're not big enough. If someone is born with strong enough magic to be one, they flock to the bigger cities for more work and a better education." Matthew shrugged a bit. "I was almost that way, but I just wasn't strong enough to make it like that."
"Mm… you mean to say that you've got magic?" Rowan asked curiously, looking up at Matthew. "Even if it's not as strong as the mages, that could be helpful, right?"
"Yes, it should be. It's nothing much. I can just see really far away, and I can move objects." To demonstrate this, he held one hand out. A book from his shelf came floating over, setting down in his hand. He set it down next to him.
Rowan watched with his eyes wide with awe. "Woah… we don't have any magic back where I'm from." He held Fluff close to himself and continued to pet him.
Matthew did a double take.
"None?" He asked softly. That was… he couldn't really imagine it. Fluff purred softly, eventually curling up and falling asleep.
"None at all. We don't exactly do interdimensional travel very often. I have no idea where that ring came from." Rowan sighed. "If people get sick or hurt, they just go to the doctor. If they need to travel somewhere, they can take a car, plane, train, bus, boat… there's a lot of options for transport."
"Oh…" Matthew shook his head a bit.
"I don't think I could handle living in a world without magic," he admitted. "And we have doctors too. How do they heal people without magic?"
"With… uh… medicine, I guess?" Rowan shrugged. "Stitches, casts, other stuff… I dunno. I'm not a doctor, but I know they don't use magic."
Matthew nodded a bit.
"Alright then… I think you might be the first person I've ever met who didn't have magic," Matthew admitted. He shifted a bit, thinking quietly to himself.
Rowan flushed a bit and nodded. "W-Well, if you visited where I live, then I guess that would change… nobody has magic there. We get along just fine without it."
Matthew tilted his head a bit.
"If you don't have magic… And people are like you… How would they react to me? Others, when they see my wings."
"Probably similar to me. They'd think you were an angel, which is… um… a heavenly being of sorts? People with wings who you would probably only see after you die… most people would probably be afraid."
"I… Well, I don't want people to be afraid of me," Matthew said softly, chuckling a bit. "You aren't anymore, are you..?" He shifted a bit, sighing.
"No, not really… you seem pretty nice." Rowan sighed softly and toyed with a lock of his hair, his fingers bumping a couple of his hair clips. "I was just startled at first. Mostly because I didn't know where I was and I thought you were an angel, so I assumed I had died."
"Ah. That would make sense. I'm glad you aren't anymore, then." Matthew smiled gently. He unfolded his hands, brushing his hair out of his eyes.
He nodded a bit and gently scratched behind Fluff's ears, humming softly to himself. "Yeah… it's still really surreal. This place is so different than where I'm from."
Matthew tilted his head slightly.
"Well, I'm sure in a few days time well be getting you back to you're world." He gave a soft smile.
"Hopefully… not that it doesn't seem nice here, of course, but I really need to get back home." Rowan sighed. "I've got work and stuff to do…"
"Yes, of course." Matthew fell silent a moment.
"We'll have to talk to the council," he finally said. "Make sure it's alright for me to accompany you."
Rowan nodded a bit and looked down at Fluff. "Alright… should we go ahead and go do that now, or do we have to schedule a time?" He asked.
"We can do it now. It's very informal, don't worry." Matthew moved to stand, offering his hand to help Rowan up.
"Okay…" Rowan carefully eased Fluff onto the floor before accepting Matthew's hand and sticking close to the avian. "It's not far, is it?"
Matthew shook his head.
"Still, we'll have to fly. Are you ready for that?" Fluff ruffled his feathers a bit, stretching.
