Am I doing this wrong? He thought to himself, for he was just winging it at this point.
Am I doing this wrong? He thought to himself, for he was just winging it at this point.
She pulled back for air, then groaned and flopped to the side so she was lying next to him on her back.
He repeated the question, but this time aloud. "Was I doing something wrong?"
"No." She sighed. "You're perfect. But I won't be able to stop myself if I keep going at this point." Great. Now I sound like a dude.
"I'll be honest," he admitted, "If your brother wasn't here I would have let you keep going."
She flushed, but not out of embarrassment. "Brothers," she grumbled, then got up and closed the door. She returned to the bed, curling up and trying to touch Runner as little as possible. Gods, what the hell is wrong with me?
He frowned heavily, rolling over on his side to look at her. I had to have done something wrong.
Her eyes darted around his face. She wanted to kiss and touch him, run her fingers through his hair and maybe more. She wanted to feel his hands on her again and be as close as possible. But they both needed their sleep. And he was new to all of this. She didn't want to force him.
An awkward silence ensued. For a while nothing was said as Runner stared at Tess, feeling like there was a gravitational pull coming from her. He stated the blatantly obvious: "This is awkward as all hell."
She snorted, grabbing a lone pillow and mashing it against his face. "No need to state the obvious."
"Are things typically this way?"
"What way?"
"Awkward." He scratched his nose, some of the blush beginning to fade.
She sighed. "At the start, sometimes." Then she started to get up and out of the bed.
He opened his mouth to protest, but decided against it, watching her stand with growing confusion.
"I'm going to my room," she explained, tossing a guilty look his way. "Neither of us will be able to sleep at this rate."
He sighed, rubbing his face again. "Alright, I guess."
She leaned over and kissed him, then pulled back before either of them could do any more. "Good night Runner."
"G'night," He said back, blinking a few times as she left the room.
She went into her room, groaning and faceplanting into her bed. "I'm going to go insane," she muttered to herself, wiggling under the blankets and pulling them over her head.
Runner grew slightly frustrated. What just happened? One minute, she's all over me, and the next she's gone with a peck. I had to've done something.
She couldn't sleep, suddenly lonely without his soothing presence. I'm such a bitch, running away after… well… that.
She was right about one thing, though. He was tired as all hell and his throat was beginning to hurt again. He rolled on to his back and closed his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest.
She rolled onto her stomach, resting her chin on her arms over her pillow. "He's probably irritated with me." She groaned and threw a different pillow over her head. "I'm such a coward!"
He heard the sound of talking from Tess's room and began debating mentally if he should go in there or not.
"I need chocolate." She got up and tried to quietly rummage through her chocolate stash beneath her bed, picking out random candies and stuffing them in her mouth. This is so easy with others. Why am I so uncertain with Runner?
She glanced up at her desk–at the two fancy invitations with hers and Runner's name on them–and felt a pang of guilt. "I'm sorry."
(Could he have heard that?)
(Probably. Their rooms are right next to eat other)
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It's fine."
