Nik nodded a little. "Right."
Nik nodded a little. "Right."
"I'm not sure what to do with him now…" Derlik looked at the man still, curled up in Twili's handkerchief.
Nik sighed faintly.
Derlik sighed as well, putting his head in his hands.
Nik glanced at Arthur and Twili quietly.
Twili was still gently rubbing Arthur's back, keeping her touch gentle. She was worried, to say the least, about all of this. He really was a broken man…
Arthur was still shaking very faintly.
At least he wasn't shaking as bad as he had been before. Twili ran her finger gently over Arthur's head, keeping him tucked close.
Arthur stayed close to her, wrapped in the handkerchief.
Derlik let out a soft breath, head on the table again.
"Perhaps we should just head back to the clearing…" Twili glanced up, holding Arthur to her chest and letting her other hand fall to Smoke's back.
Nik shrugged vaguely. "I guess. Is…is there a way to just…leave Arthur alone? Fuck. I don't know." He pillowed his head in his hands.
"If we leave him somewhere, other minor gods will probably come and be the ones to hurt him," Derlik explained, head down still. "And we can't exactly just pretend nothing has happened, look at him. He's broken."
He exhaled faintly. "God fucking damn it, I didn't want to have to deal with him ever again and now…" He trailed off, raking his hands through his hair.
"…I'm sorry, Nik," Derlik said softly. Twili looked between the two, moving to take her whiteboard out.
I could take him.
Nik glanced up at her, then over at Derlik, wondering what that would entail.
"Are you sure? You've never taken care of someone so small for more than a few hours, are you sure you can handle him?" Twili nodded firmly. She could do it.
Smoke was quiet, not really paying attention to the conversation.
Nik looked between Twili and Derlik quietly.
"…It's Nik's choice," Derlik said softly. "Are you okay with her keeping him?"
Nik nodded a little. "Yeah, I…yeah."
Twili nodded some in turn, looking down at Arthur again. She gently rubbed his back, keeping him close. He wouldn't have to go back to Derlik.
Arthur let out a faint, slow breath.
Twili let out her own breath as she held Arthur. She didn't move him, just letting him lay in her hand and process everything that was happening. She looked down at Smoke for a moment, then gently nudged him with one finger to go to Nik's lap. She wouldn't be able to carry him back, after all.
Smoke mewed faintly at her, and then headed over to Nik, curling up on his leg. Nik gently petted the small kitten.
Twili offered a small smile to Smoke as he mewed, then turned her attention back to Arthur. Derlik still had his head on the table, regretting pretty much everything. He'd messed up, yet again.
Arthur was curled up in her hands, eyes closed tight.
