Twili looked around, lightly tapping the boulder to get Nik's attention. She held up her board.
"Did he hurt you again?"
Twili looked around, lightly tapping the boulder to get Nik's attention. She held up her board.
"Did he hurt you again?"
He opened his eyes, looking at her, then shook his head.
Twili nodded a bit, erasing the board.
"Is it okay for me to ask what did..?" She sat next to Nik, worried for him.
"I…used to be a… prostitute." He said slowly, biting his lip a little and not meeting her eyes. "Someone…while I was out… thought that I still…that I still did that, and uhm…" He shrugged.
Twili blinked a bit. She lightly placed her hand on Nik's shoulder. There was no judgement on her face, just compassion and sympathy.
"Did you get hurt at all?"
He shook his head slightly. "No. And…I know I'm… overreacting, probably, but…" He shrugged his shoulders again, rubbing his face with a hand. "It wasn't…the first time someone had… thought that, and…"
"You're not overreacting. It's obviously something that really affects you…" Twili lightly placed her hand on Nik's shoulder again.
Nik nodded a little, taking a deep breath and looking up at her.
"You'll find that a lot of people here have been hurt by others…" Twili offered a sad, faint smile.
He nodded a little bit. "Yeah. I…I get that." He said softly.
Twili tilted her head a bit, looking out over the trees.
"We're all here to help. Even if some don't act like it sometimes."
He shrugged a little. "I don't…think there's anything you can do."
"We can try." Twili looked back to Nik, that compassionate look on her face.
He shrugged again. "It's not something you can help with, Twili."
Twili gave a silent sigh. He was probably right. But Derlik could. She didn't express this, of course.
He looked down at Smoke for a moment, the kitten asleep in his arms, and let out a breath.
Twili shifted a bit.
"Do you know where Derlik went?"
He shook his head slightly. "No. I don't."
Twili was a bit confused by this.
"He normally doesn't leave around this time of day…"
He shrugged his shoulders.
Twili slowly grew concerned.
"Did… He do anything to the person who approached you?" She wrote slowly.
"I…he…said something, but…I wasn't really paying attention."
Twili nodded a bit, pressing her lips together.
"Why?" he asked, looking up at her.
"Well… He might be doing something to them," Twili admitted carefully.
