Nils sighed. “It wasn’t really a choice I made,” he drawed out on saying I, “it was just a part of my job I didn’t realize at the time, but I didn’t mind it. The job pays well, too.”
“To be honest..I don’t really know.” Nils started. I also have a hard time remembering that part of my life for some reason, he thought in his mind but continued to speak. “On this planet, I was a pilot of the mechs here, and we were testing them on this planet, I believe. Once everything looked good with them, we were gonna ship them back to Earth to be used there. So I guess my mission was just to test and deliver stuff.” He finished. He quietly gave a slight hiss of pain, the headache having progressed a bit. Maybe getting outside would do him some good.
Vivian just nods her head again. It seems like an unfair tradeoff but she doesn't say anything on the matter. What happened isn't really something that anyone can change.
"That sounds like it's pretty interesting. I don't know anything about mechanics but your job seems to be really important." Her knowledge of anything other than what she does is pretty limited. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" She stops walking and turns to study him, hoping that he doesn't have another cut or anything.
Nils’ hand was slightly at his head. He took a moment to recover and respond. “I’m fine. Just a headache, probably because i’ve been down here for a while now. I should get better once we get outside.” Speaking of which, the stairs were close and while they didn’t lead to outside, they were to the ground level and that was one floor closer to the garage.
Vivian nods her head lightly, still concerned. "Are you sure? I might have an aspirin or something in my bag. Do you want me to look?" She offers, already digging through her bag and looking for something that might help. There's a bunch of stuff in there so it takes her a minute. "Here!" Pulling out a bottle of aspirin and a water bottle, she hands them over to him.
Nils looked surprised - at least in terms of his body language, seeing as his facial features were harder to see. “I don’t know if it’ll work, but I suppose it’s worth a try.” He pulled back the cloth on his shoulder again, revealing the uncanny shoulder mouth that he had shown before.
It’s a bit awkward, but the mouth seems to accept the pills and the water. Which is good, then. At least he knew he was able to drink and take medicine now, if it had any effect on him. But why wouldn’t it? He could still get wounded, so why couldn’t he have headaches or get sick? There wasn’t anything he could think of, for now.
He glances off to the side again.
Vivian does her best not to stare at the mouth on his shoulder. It was weird, there's no doubt about it. She turns her attention to her bag and putting it back in order. That'll keep her mind off of it. She zips it back up and puts it back on her shoulder with a quiet sigh.
She turns back to face him once she assumes that he's done. She's sure that she'll get used to it in time but it's still pretty new to her right now. Any form of staring would be rude so she just tries to ignore it completely. "Are you ready to get going?" The sooner they get there, the better.
He covers up his shoulder again. “Yeah.”
He begins to walk, then pauses. He seems to consider something, then speaks his mind. “Do you know how sometimes cameras might glitch like in movies? Like as in the screen, that you’re looking at.” Nils asked. It was a random, sudden question, but he needed to confirm something.
"Yeah, I think I know what you mean." She nods her head. It used to happen all of the time when she used an old camera to film school projects and such. The glitches were pretty annoying but her parents had refused to buy her a new camera. They said that giving her a camera would only encourage stupid dreams. "Why?" The question is certainly random so she assumes that he's asking this for a reason.
Though Nils can’t exactly touch his face due to his helmet, he moves a hand towards his eyes. Without turning around, he speaks. “My vision is kind of like that right now. Like my eyes are artificial, like a machine. They do that every now and then,” he referred to the glitching out thing, “like how a camera glitches.”
He sighed, lowering his arms and head. “Apologies if you don’t understand what I mean. I’m not the best at explaining things and all of what I just said was a theory.”
Vivian pauses to consider this for a minute. "Are……..are you eyes artificial?" She asks, looking up at him to try and get a look at his eyes. While she doesn't now if robotic eyes are actually a thing, she's just going to go with that they are. It, and almost anything else, wouldn't surprise her considering she woke up on the wrong planet today.
"I understand what you mean, Nils, it's okay." She offers a reassuring smile. "Maybe you hit your head during the earthquake and it's causing some vision problems."
“I don’t think hitting my head would cause my vision to turn red,” Nils said, a bit more bluntly than he intended to. Though in all honesty, his vision was a lot different, and he wasn’t able to see as many..scratch that, a lot of colours anymore. Unless there was some sort of condition he didn’t know about, he really didn’t believe that hitting his head would cause such a large change in his vision.
Or maybe he did hit his head, but something happened while he was out. He left that unsaid, for now, until he gave it some more thought.
Vivian sighs at his less than polite response. "I'm just trying to help." It's not like she's a doctor or anything. She knows basic first aid, CPR, and a few other normal things. That's about the extent of any medical training she has. Her older sister, on the other hand, is a successful doctor so she would know what to do. Sighing, she starts to wonder what her family is going to think of her disappearance. They probably won't notice.
Running her hand nervously up and down her arm, she frown slightly when she feels something under her skin. That can't be normal.
Realizing how he worded it, he recorrected himself. “Yeah, I know— I’m sorry,” he replied, then looked at Vivian. Noticing her frown, he tilted his head. “Are you alright?”
"It's fine. This is frustrating." She shakes her head, brushing off the apology. Being in a weird situation often causes for tempers to flair, she knows that. "There's something in my arm."
“In your..arm?” The confusion was very clear in his voice. “Are you sure?” Nils asked.
“I can feel it.” Vivian lifts up her arm to show him. There’s a small square shaped bump on her left forearm. Something is clearly under the skin.
Nils stood up a bit higher, blinking. He hasn’t really stood up fully for a while, but he’s rather tall. “What..is that?” He had no idea what to do in the situation.
Vivian shakes her head. "I have no idea. It wasn't there before today." She lightly touches the bump, frowning. "It definitely feels like there's something in there."
Nils turns around, looking towards the hallway again. “Has it been doing anything else?” He asked.
"Does it look like there's a light in there or is it just me?" Vivian hasn't noticed it until now so she can't really tell him anything else.
“I can’t really see anything but heat signatures. Kind of..” like a snake, he realized. Snakes would see heat signatures to detect predators or prey. “Like a snake,” he finished. “So if you’re seeing light, I don’t know if I’m seeing it too.” Nils glanced back at her.
"Can you……….can you get it out?" Vivian asks, not wanting something weird in her arm. She's afraid that it's dangerous. Things have been insane today so she's naturally paranoid. Hopefully Nils has enough medical training to get this thing out of her.
“I..don’t know.” He lowers himself again, mostly because it’s tiring to stand full height all of the time. Nils turns back around fully, looking at her, although his face isn’t visible due to his helmet. He approaches. “I’ve only been put in a few medical situations, and I wasn’t ever given a role like this before.”
Nils turns again. “I don’t..” He glances down at his arm, and there’s a very faint clicking noise. It’s easy to hear though, due to how silent the surroundings are. By his wrist, right arm and a long, metal tool seems to form, and he glances down on it, before realizing what it was. “Oh..”
The clicking ends once it’s finished forming.
She watches him carefully. Seeing the height difference, even when he's slouching, is a little intimidating. The fact that there's a helmet covering his face doesn't help either. She sighs quietly at his answer. Well, that's not very idea for the situation. "Please just try."
"Oh." Vivian's eyes go wide when she sees a metal tool emerge from his arm. That is certainly not normal. Not for her at least. "Um…..Nils, are you…..are you okay? That looks like it hurts." Having something metal come out of his arm looks pretty painful but it doesn't seem to bother him.
Nils uses his other hand to inspect the tool. It’s firmly attached to him. He lifts his head in realization. “Nanobots,” he murmurs to himself, before turning to look at Vivian again. “It’s fine. I can try and get the thing out of your arm, though.” Though his expression is unreadable, it’s clear by his body language he’s slightly nervous.
