(I'll let you know but I should be okay!)
Nora stiffened when she heard Rowan call her name. That must mean that she was okay. "Rowan!" She just needed her to now that she was okay as well. Her blood runs cold the second she heard the gunshot and the scream. "Rowan! Rowan!" No! They couldn't have killed her! She couldn't believe that! She wouldn't believe that! "Rowan!" Panic started to consume her as more and more time went by. What if they killed her? What if I failed someone else that I love? No, no, no, no, no, no. She can't be dead. Tears welled up in her eyes at the thought of the woman she loved having died. Love? Where did that come from? Do….do I love Rowan? That thought brought her whole world crashing down. I love Rowan. And now one of us might die. I never would have told her that I love her……
The door swung open and Nora was sharply brought back into reality when the gaurds started to hit her. "What did you do to her?" She screamed and thrashed out blindly at them.
Rowan heard Nora scream and was about to start yelling when the door buzzed and opened. Another guard stepped in the room. She came over to Rowan and tied a cloth tightly around her mouth. "Don't try to scream or yell or that will be the end of your friend," the voice said. Rowan squeezed her eyes shut as she heard Nora scream again and again.
The guards pulled back for a moment, leaving Nora in total silence. The metal door opened and shut with a metallic thud.
Nora's heart threatened to jump ship when her panicked screams were met with silence. "Rowan!" The scream tore itself from her lips before she could even think of stopping it. "What did you do to her, you bastards?! If you so much as touched a hair on her head then I'll fucking kill you! Do you hear me? I'll rip your goddamned heads off your shoulders!" She lurched forward in a violent rage. All that could think of right now was breaking free and saving Rowan. "Let me go you motherfuckers!"
The chair Nora was strapped to or her restraints didn't budge. Neither Nora or Rowan heard any sounds.
Hours passed. Rowan had thoroughly examined her restraints but found no way out of them. She tried not to think about what they were doing to Nora. She heard screams every once in a while but said nothing, only silently panicked.
Every hour the guards buzzed into Nora's room and beat her for about a minute. The first hour they punched and hit her stomach. The second hour they moved to her face. The third, they used their metal-tipped boots and kicked her legs hard enough to break something. The fourth and fifth were repeats of the first two hours.
Nora fought back to the best of her abilities and screamed profanities for the first few hours but her protests became weaker and weaker as time passed. The furious comments, however, do not cease.
It's about the fourth hour that the physical struggle stopped completely. Her left leg had been shattered during the beat down on that third hour, which had caused a lot of pained screams, and after that her energy had just left her. It was hard to fight back when she needed to save her energy in order to deal with the pain.
The sixth hour was the worst. Her entire body was broken, bruised, and bloody. Each breath was painful and took a lot of energy to must. That, that she would deal with. It was the constant thought of Rowan being dead because of her that she couldn't handle. When the guards left, she sobbed and broke down. She was finally starting to accept that they may have actually killed the woman she loved.
An hour later the door opened again, but this time the guards unstrapped Nora and grabbed her. The taller of the two guards threw her over his shoulder, causing the sack over her head to fall off.
After seven hours Rowan had finally gotten her gag out of her mouth. A guard came in and turned both tables so they were facing the small metal table. She didn't seem interested in the fact that Rowan's gag was out of her mouth.
The guard carried Nora into the room she had been in before and strapped her down to the table next to Rowan. "Nora! Oh my god," Rowan whispered, seeing Nora's bruised face.
Nora just remained limp. She was conserving her energy for one big attack the next time she got a chance. Besides, it would be hard to fight with a broken leg and what she could only assume to be bruised or cracked ribs.
That subdued demeanor lasted a total of ten seconds after her eyes landed on the one person in the world she cared about. "Rowan!" She jolted forward, only to be kept in place by the straps. "Are you okay? Did they hurt you? What happend? Oh my god, I love you so much." The words spilt out of her mouth without warning. She was just too overcome by her emotions to think clearly.
“I’m okay, I’m okay, I’m okay,” Rowan repeated. She was so worked up, she didn’t even hear Nora tell her she loved her. She could see how much Nora was freaking out and knew she needed to let her know she was okay. The guards left, leaving them alone. “Nora, slow down, it’s okay, I’m okay.” She stopped and looked at her and her blood boiled and her eyes darkened. “What did they do to you?”
Nora slowly started to calm down once she saw that Rowan was actually okay. "It doesn't matter. All that matters is that you're okay." Her mind whirled with a million different thoughts. The fact that Rowan was worried about her had her even more upset. "They didn't ruin my beautiful uniform so I have no complaints." Her plan was to keep up her usual sassy front so Rowan wouldn't find out how much pain she was in.
Rowan almost laughed but stopped herself. "Nora stop. I'm okay. They didn't do anything to me but gag me." She clenched her jaw, trying not to freak out. Nora wasn't okay. Rowan had heard the screams every hour. She had heard her calling out her name. "They did something to you."
Nora shook her head lightly. "No, I'm fine. Just some bruises and cuts. Nothing too bad." She flat out refused to attempt to any of it. "Let's just find a way to get out of here. I would kill for some coffee and Advil right about now." More so the Advil than the coffee if she was being honest.
"Well, I've been looking," Rowan said after a moment. Nora was right, the sooner they got out of here, the better. "I can't find a way out of these straps." She turned her head to face Nora. "Look, maybe if I tell them, they'll let you go," she said in a low, soft voice.
"Don't tell them anything, Rowan. They'll kill us the second they get what they want," Nora told her sternly. "We just need to get ahold of ourselves and wait for someone to come get us. Our superiors won't let us rot here. We know to much. It's too big of a risk."
"They might let you go," Rowan whispered. "We don't have a face to match the voice that's been speaking to us. Maybe if I ask enough they'll let you go. I'll tell them we'll tell them who the mechanic is and tell them everything they need to know if they let the other one go," she pleaded. "Please Nora." She hated seeing her here like this. Rowan had been the one driving the ship. There had been one mechanic on each ship. Maybe is she had just flown faster. . . .
Nora shook her head again. "No, Rowan, no. It's not worth the risk. These are not the type of people to let their prisoners go. Even if they did…..Rowan, I can't walk. My leg is broken and I think I cracked some ribs." She sighed heavily and squeezed her eyes shut. "We just need to wait for someone to come get us, okay? It'll be fine. Please, Rowan, I need you to just wait. Don't tell them anything."
Rowan clenched and unclenched her fists. "Fine." She craned her neck to look down at Nora's leg. "Seriously Nora I'll give the talking-to-them thing a rest, but please tell me what they did to you." She clenched her jaw. "Please."
Nora opened her eyes again and sighed. "No. It doesn't matter, Rowan. I'm just glad that you're okay. Please don't ask me again, okay? I don't want to talk about it." There was no reason Rowan had to know any of the things that happened to her.
Rowan nodded. "Okay. I'll drop it." The door opened again and the two guards from earlier came in and threw black bags over their prisoner's heads. The door opened again and someone came in. Rowan could hear the screech of the chair as the person sat down at the table across from them.
"Are you ready to talk?" It was the same voice that had played over the loudspeaker.
Nora sighed in annoyance when the bag is thrown back over her head. It was just getting annoying. "Are you ready to kiss my ass?" Came her sharp reply. There was no way she was going to tell them anything. She hated this but this was the only thing she could do about it.
Rowan sighed. She wished Nora wouldn’t say things like that, but she understood why she did. Rowan remained as silent as ever.
The man ignored Nora. He stood up and walked until he was right next to Rowan. “Well? Which one of you is it?” Rowan just clenched and unclenched the fist he couldn’t see. “Very well.” The man walked towards the door. “We'll try again tomorrow.” Three pairs of footsteps walked out and the door slammed shut.
Nora flipped them off, her feelings on the matter were clear and she wasn't telling them anything. "And you'll get the same response tomorrow, you dumb fuckers!"
"Those idiots just aren't taking the hint, are they?" She huffed in annoyance. "Rowan, are you okay? They didn't touch you, did they?" That was the one thing that she was worried about. She didn't want anything to happen to Rowan because of her smart mouth.
"No, I'm okay, they didn't touch me. Did they touch you?" In all honesty, Rowan was more worried about Nora then herself. Nora was the one they had beaten all day and the one who talked back. She was the one who was made to think Rowan was shot. That reminded her. . . . "Nora, can I ask you one more thing about what they did?"
"They didn't touch me." Nora rested her head against the table. Her leg and ribs had started to throb. Now that she was aware that Rowan was okay, the pain had finally started to set in. "One question. You can ask me one question." If she answered this than maybe the talking could cease and her head would stop pounding.
"Did . . . they make you think I was dead? I heard a gunshot and a scream of mine. I think they had recorded it earlier. And then I heard you yelling. I was going to yell too, to let you know I was okay, but they gagged me and said they'd shoot me if I made a sound." Rowan stopped talking, afraid she would upset Nora. Not being able to see her face was hard.
Nora's entire body stiffened at the question. "Yeah…….they did," She answered quietly. That was not a question she wanted to answer. She hated what they did to her in that manner. "I don't want to talk about this anymore, Rowan." She sighed quietly and closed her eyes. Not like that did very much. The hood made everything black anyways.
