“I’m okay.” She stood and started unwrapping her hands. “I’m just still upset from yesterday. Nothing the punching bag can’t fix.”
“I’m okay.” She stood and started unwrapping her hands. “I’m just still upset from yesterday. Nothing the punching bag can’t fix.”
"Let's go to the kitchen and I can make you some tea or something." She reaches out and took ahold of her hands. "I might even be able to steal some cookies."
“I’m okay, really,” Rowan said, following Nora reluctantly. “Stuff like this happens all the time. I just punch it out and I’m fine.”
Nora ignored her protests and dragged her along to the kitchen. "Just hush and let me take care of you." She gestured for Rowan to go sit down.
Rowan was stoic as ever, but she decided it would be best not to argue with Nora. “I’m sitting, I’m sitting. But Nora? I’m okay. I promise.”
Nora didn't bother responding to that. She entered the kitchen and fixed a cup of mint tea before raiding the cabinets until she finds the jar of cookies that had been hidden.
Rowan sighed. She rested her elbow on the table and propped her head up with her hand. Worse things had happened. She had even been hit harder by the punching bag before. She was tough. Rowan didn’t think there was anything she couldn’t come back from.
Nora set the tea and cookies down in front of Rowan before she sat down next to her. "Do you want to talk about it? Do you want me to beat someone up for you?" It surprised her how much she'd be willing to do for Rowan. She usually doesn't care this much about another person.
Rowan put her hands around her mug. “It’s no big deal. People were just being stupid.” She smiled. “And I think I proved I’m capable of beating people up myself.” Her face became serious again. “But really, it wasn’t that big of a deal. It was just a stupid day, dealing with stupid people. We’ve all had those.”
“It is a big deal. They upset you so now they have to suffer my wraith. That’s just how these things work. I know you can take care of yourself but I’ll feel much better once I get to beat them up as well,” Nora insists, not letting this go. She picked up a cookie and took a big bite.
"Nora." Rowan reached out her hand and looked up from her tea to look Nora in the eye. She placed her own hand over her's. "You don't need to beat anyone up for me. It's okay. I'm okay." She smiled softly. "I appreciate it I just . . . don't need it."
Nora munched on her cookie and she quickly finished it. She sighed and met Rowan’s gaze. “Fine, I’ll drop it.” She won’t beat anyone up but letting them know what’s what isn’t off the table. “I just want to help. If you need anything……”
Rowan smiled. “I know. And I appreciate it.” She took a sip of the tea. “Huh. This is good. You make good tea.” She took another drink from it. “Did I wake you up this morning?”
“Oh, thanks. It’s how my mom used to make it.” Nora smiled in response to that. “No, not at all. I needed to wake up instead of laying in bed.” She didn’t want Rowan to feel bad about it so she lied.
She nodded, taking another sip of her tea. At the comment about waking up, Rowan's eyebrows came together in confusion. "What? Why?"
“Productivity, Rowan, productivity. If I had stayed in bed for even just a few more minutes I wouldn’t have gotten up at all.” She grabbed another cookie and choked down on it.
Rowan laughed. "Good point. I would have had to drag you out of bed like I did a few days ago." She sighed and watched Nora eat her cookie. She really needed to take a shower but she didn't want this moment to end, or to leave Nora right now. "I'm seriously considering skipping my shower."
"That is something that I'll never forgive you for," Nora laughed and shook her head. She had been a zombie for that entire day and had been in one hell of a grumpy mood. "Why? We could shower together." She grinned and waggled her eyebrows in a suggestive manor.
Rowan felt her face grow hot. "I mean . . . that works. I didn't want to shower because I didn't want to leave you but . . . that would solve the problem. If you were serious, that is," she added quickly.
Nora grinned even more at Rowan's reaction. "It would definitely solve the problem." There was no way she was going to joke about that. "Yeah, I was serious."
Rowan felt her blush deepen even more. "Oh." She checked her watch. They had about fifteen minutes until they would need to really start their day. "Well, I do need to shower pretty badly."
Nora stood up and reentered the kitchen to put up the cookies. No one needed to know that they got into them. "Come on, let's go. We only have a couple of minutes of freedom left."
"Okay. . . . " Rowan followed Nora into the kitchen and then into the bathroom near their room. Almost everyone else was still asleep. She turned the water on in one of the stalls. Her blush had crept down her neck.
Nora entered the bathroom and was completely fine with this arrangement. She pulled off her clothes without hesitation and draped them on a peg. The various scars on her body never bother her, she was much too confident for that. Besides, she was proud of how in shape and toned her body was.
Rowan stripped her clothes slowly. She halfway folded them, leaving them in a semi-neat pile on the ground. She tried desperately not to stare at Nora too much, not wanting to feel or seem like a creep. She stepped into the shower under the stream. "You coming in?"
