Larkin eventually managed to make it back to the house with Samul, panting as well by the time they arrived. He pushed through the door and flopped down on the floor.
Larkin eventually managed to make it back to the house with Samul, panting as well by the time they arrived. He pushed through the door and flopped down on the floor.
Samul let go of the leash when they made it back to the house, closing the door and collapsing on the couch with a whine of his own. He did his best to catch his breath, chuckling a bit.
Larkin lay quietly on the floor a few minutes to rest before he jumped to his paws and tore open the bag to get to his toy. He bounded around the house with it, seemingly excited.
Samul sat up just slightly. He picked up the torn bag, throwing it away.
"Hey Larkin," he said, smiling a bit. "Want to get that collar off?"
Larkin shook his head and kept running around the house with his new toy, his tail wagging wildly while he did so.
Samul smiled a bit as Larkin played. He was too tired to care about the wolf not wanting to take the collar off. He yawned a bit, knowing Larkin wouldn't let him sleep for quiet some time at this pace.
Larkin frolicked about the house, clearly still full of energy. He very rarely slept when he was shifted, and he was always exhausted the next morning. He'd already asked for the next day off, of course.
Samul looked at the clock, seeing it was almost eleven at night. Samul, unlike Larkin, couldn't just not go to his classes, and he had one earlier in the morning the next day. He snuck off silently to his room, changing and sitting on the bed, quite ready to fall asleep.
Larkin ran around more when Samul left, howling loudly upon being left alone. He dropped the toy and bit down on the couch, starting to try and rip a chunk out of it.
Samul had settled down, eyes opening when he didn't hear Larkin running around any more. That could not be good. Samul forced himself up out of bed, making his way out.
"Larkin!" He exclaimed when he say what his boyfriend was doing.
Larkin stepped back and howled again, spinning in a circle before returning to the couch to try and destroy it. He seemed quite pleased with himself and was wagging his tail hard.
"Larkin, no, I swear to god-!" Samul stepped forward, wrapping his arms around Larkin's neck from behind, trying to pull him off the couch without him getting hit by Larkin's tail.
Larkin whimpered and whined when Samul pulled on him, letting go of the couch and starting to struggle against Samul's hold.
"Larkin," Samul said a bit of a growl. He was exhausted, and he didn't have the money to replace the couch, and neither did Larkin. Or any other furniture, for that matter.
"You will not chew up the fucking furniture, do you understand?"
Larkin turned his ears back and cowered, looking up at Samul with a shaky whine. He curled his tail up between his legs as he looked down at the floor.
Samul let out a soft sigh, burying his head in Larkin's fur.
"Please," he said softly, the growl in his voice gone when he saw how Larkin reacted to it. He went from holding Larkin back to hugging him.
"Don't eat the fucking furniture."
Larkin rested his head on Samul's shoulder, whimpering a couple more times as he huddled closer. He obviously didn't like being yelled at.
Samul let out a sigh, gently running his fingers through Larkin's fur.
"I'm sorry," he finally said, turning his head towards Larkin. "I shouldn't have been so mean to you."
Larkin curled up in Samul's lap, trembling lightly with a soft whine. He closed his eyes and huffed a bit at Samul.
Samul held Larkin close, gently kissing his head. He felt horrible, now, for yelling at Larkin. He rested his head on Larkin again, sighing softly in turn.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled again, looking away.
Larkin curled up tighter and fell silent, covering his face with his tail. He didn't look like he was planning on moving.
Samul hesitantly ran his fingers through Larkin's fur. He wanted to help Larkin feel better, but he wasn't sure how. He stayed still.
Eventually, Larkin seemed to drift off into a light sleep, his breathing growing more smooth and even.
Samul just laid down on the floor, arms wrapped around Larkin and holding him close.
