"Larkin! Larkin I swear if you don't stop right now I'm not going to give you a single treat!" Samul dug his heels in, doing his best not to run into anything.
"And I won't make anymore either!"
"Larkin! Larkin I swear if you don't stop right now I'm not going to give you a single treat!" Samul dug his heels in, doing his best not to run into anything.
"And I won't make anymore either!"
Larkin whined and skidded to a halt, stumbling a bit and falling over when he did so. He howled again, obviously upset.
Samul stumbled to a halt, almost tripping over Larkin.
"Come on," Samul said, lifting Larkin up as best he could with one arm. "When we get to the pet store I'll give you a treat, okay? But you have to stay with me, silly." Samul sighed, scratching Larkin's head.
Larkin huffed and reluctantly began trotting along at Samul's side instead of running ahead. He was panting hard and occasionally stopped to howl or whine.
Samul chuckled just faintly.
"We wouldn't have so far to go," he said, "If you hadn't run off. How about we go to a park next time? Then you could run around all you want."
Larkin barked gruffly in reply, tugging on the leash a bit as he walked. Samul was walking slower than he wanted him to.
"Larkin," Samul said, sighing a bit. "You know I'm not very athletic, you're lucky I'm able to go this fast after what you pulled." Samul chuckled a bit, reaching down to scratch Larkin's head.
"Look, it's just a few minutes away from here, promise."
Larkin whined loudly and reluctantly slowed his pace so he wasn't choking himself, but clearly wasn't happy about it.
Samul sighed a bit, ruffling Larkin's fur. He turned a corner, the pet store sign nice and big so anyone could see it.
Larkin ran towards it when he saw it and dragged Samul inside, barking excitedly at everyone and everything he saw.
"L-Larkin!" Samul said, trying to get the wolf to stop. "I can't give you your treat if I can't stop! Heel!" That last part was mostly because they were in public. The night was still young, so there were several other people in the store. Another dog started barking at Larkin, and a few people laughed a bit.
Larkin howled at the other dog before he turned to Samul and sat down, panting as he waited for his treat. Despite being small for a wolf, he was still larger than any other dog in the store and clearly looked like a wolf.
Samul knelt down, pulling a treat out for Larkin.
"You can't just go running around in here," he lectured, scratching behind Larkin's ears a bit.
"You're lucky they let in any leashed pet, but if you keep doing this they'll kick us out before we can get you a new toy." Samul scratched behind Larkin's ears, sighing.
Larkin snatched the treat out of Samul's hand and started dragging his boyfriend to the toy section. They'd been here enough times for him to know where it was, after all.
Samul chuckled a bit, going to the section.
"There, we're here now," he said with a smile. He looked around a bit, trying to find a replacement for the toy Larkin had broken.
Larkin sniffed around the toys, his tail wagging as he wandered around. He always loved to come here.
Samul smiled a bit, ruffling Larkin's fur again. He moved over to the enrichment toys, letting the leash dangle so Larkin had more room to move around. He hummed faintly, trying to find a simple one that could handle rough treatment.
Larkin howled loudly as he followed Samul, grabbing a toy similar to the one he'd broken. This one was made out of hard rubber, though, so it would be harder for him to break it.
Samul laughed a bit, reaching over to take the toy from Larkin.
"You like this one?" He asked, chuckling softly.
Larkin nodded and moved his head away from Samul when he tried to take the toy. He wanted to hold onto it.
Samul sighed, giving in for now.
"Come on, let's go buy it then." He chuckled softly. At least Larkin couldn't howl with his in his mouth. Samul hummed a bit, heading off to the counter.
Larkin trotted along at Samul's side, seeming to be in good spirits. Once they got to the checkout, he put his paws up on the counter and dropped the toy in front of the employee.
The employee looked at Larkin a moment, laughing a bit. Samul chuckled as well, scratching the top of Larkin's head as he handed over his card.
"Have a good night," The employee said when the transaction was done, handing over the bag with the toy and Samul's card.
Larkin stole the bag from Samul and dragged him back out the door. His tail wagged as he ran, muffled howls and barks escaping his mouth.
Samul laughed a bit. Eventually, he just gave in, running with Larkin as best he could. He laughed again, breathing heavy as he did his best to steer Larkin back to the house.
