“I like spending time with you, so this is great,” Sterling assured her, taking a bite of his food. He swallowed and wrapped an arm around her. “I like you, and I like this. There’s no place I would rather be.”
“I like spending time with you, so this is great,” Sterling assured her, taking a bite of his food. He swallowed and wrapped an arm around her. “I like you, and I like this. There’s no place I would rather be.”
I like you. Eden smiled, snuggling further in his embrace, clutching the piece of vegetable tightly in her hand. “I’m glad,” she hummed, head now on his chest rather than his shoulder. The steady beat of his heart relaxed her immensely. “But don’t ever think you’re obliged to stick with me. Okay?”
“I might not be obliged to, but I’ll always want to,” Sterling assured her softly.
Eden looked up at him and lightly kissed his cheek before resting her head on his chest again. “Have I told you how at peace you make me feel?”
Sterling hummed and hugged her closer. “Yeah, you have. And I’m really glad I do,” he hummed before taking another bite.
“You’re warm,” Eden commented, snuggling deeper into him. She tapped her finger on his chest following the steady beat of his heart. “Feels nice.”
Lub-dub. Lub-dub. Lub-dub.
Tap-tap. Tap-tap. Tap-tap.
“Eat, Eden,” Sterling chuckled softly, kissing her head.
Eden sighed. She had been hoping it would slip his mind, though she should probably know by now that it wouldn’t. He knew. He always did.
“Okay,” she grumbled, taking another small bite of the carrot stick. “I’m eating…”
“Thank you, beautiful,” Sterling said with a slight laugh. He took another bite of his own food, watching her softly out of the corner of his eye.
Beautiful. As she chewed, a small smile took over her lips. Could there ever be a day in which he wouldn’t give her butterflies? She didn’t think so. It had just been a few days since they started dating, but Sterling never failed to make her heart both race and be at peace. It was so much different than—Eden erased that trail of thought before it soured her mood.
She finished the carrot stick she was eating, resting her hand back on his chest and continuing with her tapping. “Don’t let me fall asleep,” she muttered once she felt herself getting drowsy. She hadn’t slept the night before, and now that she was in his arms… she felt relaxed. “I’m wearing lenses.”
Sterling smiled around his mouthful and rubbed circles onto her back. “All right. You done eating?” he asked softly.
Eden nodded, fisting his shirt tightly in her grip. He was probably feeling annoyed by her… who wouldn’t be? “Sorry…”
“Hey, it’s okay. I’m glad you ate anything at all,” Sterling assured her gently. “I’m proud of you.”
At his words, Eden felt warmth flood through her. How could just simple words from him make her so happy? “Thank you, Sterling…”
“Anytime, E,” Sterling murmured, kissing her head and then finishing off his sandwich.
When Sterling was done with his sandwich, Eden pushed herself off of his chest only to make herself comfortable on his lap. She kept her arms wrapped around his stomach, face dug there as well.
Sterling grunted softly in surprise when Eden moved into his lap. He laughed quietly to himself and kissed her head. “You’re really cute sometimes, you know that?” he murmured, wrapping his arms around her tightly.
“You’re comfortable,” Eden defended herself, the tip of her ears turning red. How easy was it for him to get her embarrassed! “And I’m not cute, Sterling.”
“No? Well, then, you’re adorable,” sterling countered with a chuckle.
“I’m neither,” Eden scowled, grabbing his face in her hands softly, pulling it down and pressing their lips together. Just because she wasn’t hungry for food didn’t mean she wasn’t hungry for his mouth.
Sterling hummed, kissing her back for a moment before pulling away. “You’re both,” he argued before kissing her again.
Eden grunted, pressing harder against him before she pulled away to mutter, “I’m neither, Ainsley,” and placing her mouth back on his again.
“Both,” Sterling muttered against her lips, pulling her closer. He would not let her win this…
“Neither,” Eden’s words were muffled, but she didn’t care. Just to make him stop talking (and because she wanted to feel the same sensation again), Eden parted her lips again, arms wrapping around his neck.
“Both,” Sterling breathed before slipping his tongue into her mouth once more. He ran it over her teeth before exploring slowly again, this time to tease her.
