Sterling raised an eyebrow. “Yes? I also put maple syrup on it. Why, do you not?”

Eden shook her head. “I’ve never liked eating them with a fork or a syrup.”

“Hm. Interesting. Okay. Then I guess I’ll get two plates so you can have your own French toast,” Sterling hummed, already reaching for them.

"All right," Eden hummed as she took the plate of French toast and Sterling's glass of milk to the table. Razor, who was done with eating, was curled up on her chair. Even as Eden nudged him with her foot, he remained curled up. She chuckled, setting the plates down and bending to pick him up. "You, love, are very troublesome. That's my seat."

Sterling chuckled and carried the plates and a fork to the table. He found the maple syrup and brought hat over as well. “Your boys just like your attention,” he joked, kissing her cheek as he set everything on the table.

Razor still in her arms, Eden turned toward Sterling, stood on her toes and closed her eyes expectantly. If he was going to just kiss her cheeks or head, he might as well kiss her properly on the mouth.

Sterling chuckled again and pecked her lips. “We should eat, love. But I suppose it would be a good idea to kiss you before I have sticky syrup lips, hm?”

“Yes, please,” Eden murmured, eyes still closed, head still raised. “Though syrup lips don’t sound too bad.”

“Yeah? Well, I’ll be sure to kiss you after, then, too,” Sterling hummed before leaning down to press their lips together.

Eden hummed in content at the feeling of his lips pressed against hers. She kissed him back, though her cat was still in her arms. Why wasn’t he wrapping his arms around her?

The door to a room opened and Eden, too caught up in the feeling of his lips, didn’t notice. Not until she heard the voice.

“Okay… what?”

Sterling pulled away, albeit reluctantly, and glanced up at the couple standing in the doorway. He gave them a small smile and a wave.

“Hey, Lucas, Ashley,” he greeted them, as casual as if he hadn’t just been caught kissing heir sister/best friend. “Morning.”

Eden felt her cheeks heat up, her eyes opening as she looked behind herself to the surprised faces of her brother and friend.

“You…” Lucas shook his head. “How long? What? When you did get here? Why are you here?”

“How long have we been together? A few days,” Sterling answered with a shrug. “And… I’ve been here since early this morning. Eden needed me.”

Lucas looked at Eden. “Wait—so he stayed over. With you. And you didn’t tell us? About you both dating?”

“I didn’t think I had to,” Eden answered quietly, fingers running through Razor’s fur. “What I do is up to me. I don’t need to tell you both everything, do I?”

“Babe, you maybe should have told him,” Sterling murmured, kissing the top of her her as he did so. “Sorry, Lucas, I thought she told you.”

“No, it’s fine,” Lucas sighed, running a hand through his messy hair. “She really doesn’t tell me anything. It’s not surprising.”

Eden looked down at her cat, biting her lip. Razor looked at her and licked her hand. Eden smiled softly. “I didn’t feel the need to.”

Sterling straightened again and gave the couple a small smile. “Well, Eden made French toast, but I’m not sure if there’s enough for all of us. You’re welcome to join us if you want, though.”

“Actually, I was just trying to convince Luke to take me for breakfast. There’s a really good place to get pancakes and waffles not too far from here,” Ashely said, finally speaking up. She yawned and nudged Lucas. “Right, babe?”

Lucas, who had been looking at his sister with observing eyes, turned to his girlfriend and smiled. “Yeah. I was going to take her there. We were going to take E along with us, but it turns out you guys have already made breakfast.”

He chuckled, looking back at Eden. The young twin, feeling his gaze, looked up and met his gaze. Lucas tilted his head to the side as if to ask, Does he know?

Eden shot him a glare. No, and you’re not going to tell him.

Lucas sighed and scratched the back of his head. “Ash and I should go now, then.”

“We’ll see you guys later,” Ashley said with a grin, leaning into her boyfriend. She hadn’t mused the exchange of looks, and by the raised eyebrow on Sterling’s face, he hadn’t either. “Have fun.”

Sterling smiled, nodding once. “Thanks, guys. We’ll see you later.”

“See you later,” Lucas waved, giving Eden another look. What was he going to do with his sister?

He needs to know, Lucas furrowed his eyebrows. He’s your boyfriend.

Eden smiled tightly. I don’t want to tell him.

“Have fun, Lucas, Ashley,” Eden turned away from the both of them. She missed the sad look Lucas sent her way. “Ah, the French toast are getting cold.”

Ashley simply nodded and pulled Lucas away, toward the door.

Sterling looked down at Eden and kissed her forehead. “So… Do you want to continue what we were doing before we were interrupted, or should we eat?”

Eden looked up at him, standing on her toes again. “We should do what we were doing,” she answered rather breathlessly. “That sounds fun.”

“Definitely,” Sterling answered, his voice dropping just slightly, barely enough to be noticeable. “But we should eat before the food gets cold, shouldn’t we?”

Eden stood back on her feet properly, looking disappointed. “Let me wash my hands, then,” she murmured. “You can start eating.”

Sterling hummed and leaned down to kiss her softly, just for a second, before pulling away. “As long as you come back and sit with me, I will.”
