“A knife,” Eden closed as eyes, stopping the beating of the mixture. “To cut the bread in half.”
“A knife,” Eden closed as eyes, stopping the beating of the mixture. “To cut the bread in half.”
“Where is it?” Sterling asked, nuzzling her cheek gently.
“The drawer next to the sink,” Eden responded, twisting her head to the side to peck him on the lips.
Sterling grinned and pecked her on the lips back. He shifted around her to grab a knife, the handed it to her. “There you go,” he murmured, burying his face in her hair.
Eden took the knife with a small thanks, setting it aside so she could open the bag of bread. She took out a few slices and cut them in half.
“What do you want to drink with them?” she questioned as she carefully set one mixture-soaked bread on the pan, watching it sizzle. She added two more, then wiped her hands with a tissue.
Sterling hummed and kissed her head. “Milk is fine. I can grab it if you want…”
Eden chuckled, pointing at the carton of milk right next to the bread.
“It’s right there, genius,” she said teasingly. “And I’m the one who’s supposed to be half blind.”
Sterling snorted and kissed her cheek. “Sorry, babe. I must have just been blinded by your beauty.”
“What a smooth mouth you have, Sterling,” Eden flipped the slices of bread. “Do you like it warm, or cool? The milk, I mean.”
“You should know, shouldn’t you,” Sterling teased with a chuckle. “Cold, please.”
Eden turned red again, nearly dropping the spatula she was holding. She elbowed him in the side, grumbling to herself.
“You drink your milk cold?” she scrunched her nose. “I don’t like cold milk.”
Sterling laughed at her flusteredness and kissed her cheek. “You’re adorable. And yes, I drink it cold. You drink yours warm?”
“Tease me again, Sterling…” Eden let the dare hang in the silence as she removed the slices from the pan and added more oil before she put in three more slices. “Yeah, I drink mine warm. When I drink it, anyway. I’m not a big fan of milk. It makes me feel nauseous sometimes.”
“Or what?” Sterling wondered, giving her a light squeeze. “Maybe you’re allergic. Could you be?”
“No,” Eden shook her head with a sigh, flipping the slices. “I’m not allergic. I don’t… eat well, which I’m sure you’ve noticed.”
Sterling sighed and kissed her head yet again. “I know… I wish you would eat better, but I’m sure it’s hard. I’m not going to push you to do it, but I will ask you to eat at least a little bit of something.”
Eden smiled sadly, piling up the rest of the French toast from the pan and turning off the stove.
“Can I share something with you?” She murmured, opening a cupboard to take out a glass. She poured in some milk before looking at Sterling.
Sterling moves to stand beside her, reluctantly letting her go in the process. He gave her a careful look as he nodded, a soft smile on his lips. “Of course. Always.”
“When I get a nightmare, I throw up,” she shared slowly, looking at anywhere but at him. “Or whenever I get stressed. I hate throwing up, so I started eating less and less. I can’t eat more than a few bites anymore.”
Sterling’s smile fell, but he still regarded her softly. He reached over to cup her cheek in his hand, his thumb brushing over the skin in a gentle arc.
“Okay… I don’t like that, but I know it’s better for you to eat something, even if it’s just a little bit, than to eat a lot and throw it all up,” he murmured, leaning forward to kiss her forehead.
Eden swallowed thickly before she nodded slowly. He was right. Of course he was.
“Feed me?” She asked shyly. “I might eat a little if you do.”
“Anything for my queen,” Sterling agreed, giving her a small grin and kissing her softly. “Are they almost done? Your boyfriend is starving.”
“My boyfriend is a baby,” Eden rolled her eyes. “They’re done, Sterling. C’mon, let’s go.”
“Hey, I’m a growing boy. I need sustenance!” Sterling protested with a laugh. “I’ll grab a plate and fork if you want to take the food to the table? Or vice versa?”
“Growing boy, indeed,” Eden muttered to Sterling before giving him a look. “You eat French toast with a fork?”
