Mycah sighed slightly and followed Winter upstairs. They peeked into some of the rooms, hoping they found a good room to sleep in. It was back to the old days, it would seem.
Mycah sighed slightly and followed Winter upstairs. They peeked into some of the rooms, hoping they found a good room to sleep in. It was back to the old days, it would seem.
Winter checked the floors. "Here, this one works." he said, setting his sleeping bag down and letting out a breath. "I think."
Mycah walked into the room and inspected the floor. "Yeah, it seems like the best we could do for now," they agreed, setting down their sleeping bag. "Tell me if you want me to move it somewhere else," they added, not really knowing if Winter wanted some sort of privacy/space or anything like that.
Winter looked at him, and shrugged. "It's fine." he replied, running a hand through his hair. "But I'd rather be closer to the door, if that's alright."
"Yeah, that's good." Mycah nodded. "Just pick the area of the floor you want to occupy, and I will take whatever is left." They gave him a small smile.
Winter nodded, moving his sleeping bag around. "There." he said, returning the smile. "Thanks."
"Of course." Mycah dipped their head at him, then started toward the door. "What time is it? Too early to start on dinner?" They frowned slightly.
Winter squinted a little bit in thought. "Huh. I don't know." he replied, shrugging. "We could always get started, I guess."
"Yeah. It's not like we have anywhere to be or any plans." Mycah walked down to the kitchen. Now, they would see if they could cook anymore. During the last years of the war, they hadn't been able to do anything like that. They hoped it was like riding a bike, and if not, they hoped Winter knew how to.
Winter nodded, letting out a quiet laugh as he followed Mycah. "Do you know how to cook?" he asked after a moment, running a hand through his hair.
"I used to. Every once in a while, we'd get together and make each other something, just to keep our spirits up. But it's been a while since I've done that, so… I don't really know," Myach admitted, looking over at Winter. "What about you?"
"I…know how to cook some things." he admitted slowly. "It's been a while, but I should be able to. And if we have any cookbooks, I can follow a recipe."
"Well, then, I guess we'll just have to work together." Mycah shrugged. "I don't have any cookbooks, but we might be able to find some in here if we look. And if not, I'm sure there's a used bookstore in town where we can get some at some point."
Winter nodded, and started to poke through the cupboards, looking for some cookbooks or anything. He hummed softly for a moment.
Mycah started looking through the food they had bought, making a backup plan in case Winter couldn't find a cookbook. If all else failed, they could try and make some noodles with a salad or something like that.
Winter eventually unearthed an ancient old cookbook, and laughed as he brought it out. "Look what I found."
"Nice! Anything good in it?" Mycah asked, turning away from the food and looking at Winter. "If not, I have a backup plan."
Winter started paging through it. Several pages had been destroyed by water damage, but most were still legible.
Mycah watched Winter look through the pages. They hoped he found a good recipe. It would be fun to cook something after all this time.
Winter put the cookbook down. "Here, we can do this one." he said with a quick little smile.
"Perfect! What is it?" Mycah asked, nodding slightly. "Tell me what I need to get out. You can be in charge of dinner."
He nodded, and started to direct Mycah, smiling.
Mycah followed Winter's instructions, putting the correct ingredients on the counter near him.
Winter smiled softly over at him, then went back to work on the food, starting to measure things out.
This was so familiar, and yet so strange. Mycah leaned against the counter again, watching Winter measure out ingredients. They were feeling safe for the first time in a long time… so much so that they started humming under their breath.
