Felix bit his lip.
"Sorry… I wasn't even thinking…" he whispered, lowering his hand until the magic ceased its flow.
Weakness set into the arm he'd been using.
"Eclipse, I'm going to meditate," he sighed, "Let me know if you need anything."
He didn't want to take his eyes off the other, but he knew this would be a better idea because of the restorative properties of him communing with the earth, plus he would put his mind just enough to sleep that he perhaps couldn't worry about Eclipse.
Eclipse nodded, ears still pinned to his skull, knowing this would be a long night.
Felix sat upright and cross-legged, folding his hands into his lap and fluttering his eyes closed. He steadied his breathing and muttered a few words in an ancient language. After this, he felt the soft, whirring buzz of magic sitting in his chest, strangely like a second heartbeat. Even from the outside, this was all evident, as a few rays of light shone from under Felix's clothes, near where his heart was.
Although it was a struggle to maintain focus at first, Felix was eventually able to enter his meditative state.
Eclipse watched him for a little while, but eventually just laid his head down, resigned to getting a sleepless night.
(Sure, do you mind starting?)
A little while after daybreak, Felix opened his eyes, and the buzz of magic stopped. He wasn’t completely better, but definitely better than he had been in days. Even his wounds felt like they had diminished some.
Felix crawled out of the shelter and stepped outside, where the leaves on the ground were wet, and mud sat underneath, causing his feet to sink in slightly where he stood.
Eclipse was dozing near the back of the shelter, hiving fallen asleep only about half an hour before, hours after the storm had diminished.
Felix took off his binding while Eclipse wasn't around. He did some gentle stretches of his back and chest. They hurt; they felt a little bruised in a few spots. It was probably better if he left it off, but…
He glanced back to the shelter. Why did he care about what Eclipse thought so much?
Eclipse was still asleep, his breathing slow and shallow.
After a little while- probably an hour or so, though he wasn't keeping track- Felix peeked back into the shelter and saw Eclipse was sleeping. He shrugged and decided he deserved a few more minutes.
Felix went to hitch the horses back up to the cart, which was soaking wet. After this, he returned to the shelter.
"Rise and shine," he muttered, trying not to startle the other.
Eclipse stirred, grumbling a little, still in wolf form.
Felix sighed and stepped away from the entrance.
A bit louder, he called, "It's time to get up. You can sleep on the road if you must."
Eclipse, growled softly, getting to his paws, and stretching out the kinks in his limbs, his muscles aching after staying so tense last night.
“Are you doing alright?” Felix asked, “I know you had a rough night.”
Eclipse shifted back, looking like an exhausted lump. "My head hurts like shit" he muttered.
Felix drew closer.
“Here, I can ease the pain,” he said softly.
"No.. No you already drained yourself once…" he stepped back, "I'll be fine…"
“I’ve recovered, mostly…” Felix replied, “I did some magic uh, shenanigans, I guess you could say, during the night. I’m feeling pretty okay now.”
"You still don't need to drain yourself again on account of me…"
“Headaches are nothing,” Felix promised.
This was true. Pain was an easy fix. Severe injuries were where things got tricky.
“Well… at least try to sleep on the road if you won’t accept my help.”
Eclipse nodded a little, "Do you need help with the horses?"
“I’ve already hitched them up, while you were asleep,” Felix replied, “We can leave when you’re ready. We just need to take down the shelter.”
Eclipse nodded, moving to start taking it down, his movements just another indication of how exhausted he was.
