Cas put the papers back in his pocket and thanked the host, following Sorrel again. He kept looking around, seemingly in awe of how nice the place actually was. Even when he'd lived in a house with his dad, it wasn't anywhere near as nice as this restaurant. He nodded at Sorrel's explanation, sitting down at the table they were brought to.
Just as the two sat down, Melanie rushed into the room. "Hey! Here are your menus! Anything to drink?" She asked the two. "Well, I'll take a lemonade! Remember the cherries!" Sorrel said. He'd always loved the place's cherry lemonade, Melanie knew it well. "Sounds good! And for you?" She asked Cas.
"Um… just water is fine, ma'am." Cas set Nix in his lap and started looking at the menu. He was honestly a little overwhelmed by the amount of things on it, but he was really trying to not look like he hadn't been to a restaurant in years.
"Alright then! I'll be back in a little." Melanie said. As she was walking away, she smiled to herself. "It's been a while since Sorrel brought someone else in," She whispered, with a snicker. "So, what're your favorite flavors? I might be able to find things you'd like best," Sorrel asked.
"I'm really not picky, honestly." Cas sighed, resting his chin on the knuckles of one hand as he tried to make sense of the pictures on the menu. He could hardly read, after all, so all these fancy dish names were making his life rather difficult.
"Try this one. It's a chicken alfredo. It's delicious!" Sorrel said. He flattened his own menu, and pointed at a certain dish on Cas's. It looked like a chicken pasta, and seemed a little less extreme than the rest of the food. "I'll get it, too." He added. Not like it mattered what he got, it only mattered what Cas wanted.
"Alright. That sounds good to me." Cas shrugged and closed his menu, laying it on top of Sorrel's. "How often do you come here?" He asked. Pretty often, he assumed, considering the waitress knew him by name.
"Maybe three times a week. I'm dreadful at cooking, so I have someone else do it for me." Sorrel said, with a slightly embarrassed blush. "Like, the last time I tried to cook, I almost burned my kitchen down." He whispered, as if it were a secret of some sort. "But it's alright. I saved it." He giggled.
( Going to have to go for an hour- )
(Alrighty)
Cas laughed a bit as well. "It's been a long time since I've cooked." Well, I don't exactly have a kitchen. "I usually get stuff from the market in the square. Bread and stuff, you know. It's cheap, it's good, why not?"
( Back! )
"Bread's wonderful." Sorrel purred, thinking of a certain bread he really liked. After he said his words, Melanie returned with their drinks, and she passed them out. "What would you two cuties like to eat?" She asked. "I'll have the chicken alfredo," Sorrel replied to her. He decided to let Cas say his own order, rather than the usual 'same for him'.
Cas blushed a bit when Melanie returned and he processed what she'd said. "Um… I'll have the same, please." He handed the menus back to her and sipped his water, keeping, one hand on Nix. It's kind of pathetic how long it's been since I've just had clean water…
Melanie nodded, and scribbled some things down on the notepad she held. "Alright! Coming right up!" She chirped, returning to some other table. Sorrel laughed. "You're adorable when your face is all red." He said, smiling a bit wider than before. "But don't get me wrong. It's okay." He said, hoping not to offend his friend.
Cas blushed a bit more and looked away. "I just blush easy… I'm pale as hell, so it's always obvious, too." He sighed and took another sip of water. Nix meowed softly and nuzzled against his chest, which seemed to be an attempt to make him relax.
"Oh, I see. Well, it's alright, we're all that way sometimes." Sorrel said. He didn't know how to make Cas more at-ease with him, and it really messed with his feelings. "Hmm." He muttered. He couldn't just hide it, he had to ask. "Hey, am I too much? I can tone myself down a little, like, just tell me if I'm making a mistake." He said, suddenly.
"Um… not really. I'm not used to being around friendly people too much." Cas shrugged. "It's probably just my inexperience and not you at all. Don't worry about it."
"Inexperience?" Sorrel asked. He really didn't know what Cas had been through, and started that conversation up without thinking. "Cas, you said you're not used to friendly people. Is your current state of life alright?" Sorrel asked him.
( Once I leave today, I won't be back until Tuesday. School break thing and I can't be here when I'm home. )
(Alrighty)
"Uh…" Cas hesitated, not entirely sure what to say. No, his current state of life was not alright. In fact, it was pretty shitty. Even when he lived with his dad, he dealt with neglect, hunger and with his father generally being drunk. Now, he lived alone on the streets with just a few stray cats and Nix to keep him warm at night.
"Hey, if it's real bad, I might be able to help you." Sorrel said, in an instant. He couldn't tell what Cas meant with just the 'uh', but he did know he could stand being with him for a while. "Like, I have an extra room at my house, if you absolutely need it." He muttered, in thought.
"No, no… I couldn't do that. I really don't want to be a burden." Cas said nervously, shaking his head. "I'm… fine…" He murmured, cursing himself for being such a terrible liar.
"Cas." Sorrel said, locking eyes with the tiny guy. "You're not in good shape, you know. You can't keep a straight tone, stuttering, and you're clearly afraid of something. I'll take care of you, it'll be nothing like a burden to me. I've always wanted a house-mate anyways." Sorrel said, with excitement, yet a sternness.
Cas was trembling slightly now, and he had no idea what to say. He wanted to maintain that he was fine, but that clearly wasn't going well. Should he just thank Sorrel? He was just anxious and confused and Nix was trying his best to calm him down.
Sorrel got up from his seat, and made his way to Cas. His cheek brushed against the other's as he brought his lips to his ear. "I'm sorry, I must've went too far." He whispered. He hugged Cas, then, avoiding Nix as best he could. "But honestly, it'll always be fine." He added.
Cas blushed a bit and let Sorrel hug him. "I-I'm… it's fine, I just… it's a lot to take in… I really don't want to be in your way." He said weakly.
