Hunter laughed, still smiling as he tucked Milo into his chest. “You should probably get inside, we got school tomorrow,” He mumbled, but didn’t want to let Milo go. It just felt so natural to be with Milo now, like connected puzzle pieces.
"Don't remind me… I would invite you inside but my parents don't want me bringing in random people that they don't know." Milo sighed into Hunter's chest. He was comfortable there, he could easily spend all his time in Hunter's arms.
“I get it,” Hunter said softly, resting his chin on top of Milo’s head. His foster parents would probably be furious with him for staying out late without telling them, but he didn’t particularly care. Hunter massaged small circles into Milo back with his thumb. “I can drive you home tomorrow too, if you’d like,” He murmured, a yawned escaping him just as he finished the sentence.
"Sounds good to me…" Milo said softly. "I am so tired, I could fall asleep right here, but I don't want to let go." His voice was barely above a whisper as he listened to Hunter's heartbeat, matching his to Hunter's.
“As cute as it’d be for you to fall asleep in my arms, you should really get sleep. I wouldn’t want to be the reason you’re tired tomorrow,” Hunter told him with a smile, brushing his hand through Milo’s hair. He gently kissed the top of Milo’s head, then forced himself to let go of Milo and step away even though it was hard, “I’ll see you again tomorrow, I promise.” Then he held up his hand, signing ’I love you’.
Milo opened his eyes as he stabled himself since he was about to drift to sleep in Hunter's embrace. Both of his hands formed the sign. "See you…" He tried to open the knob, remembering he had to unlock the door. He slowly pulled out his set of keys and, after a few tries, unlocked the door. Milo looked over to Hunter with a tired smile.
Hunter let out a small laugh, “Sleep well, you cute little dork,” He smiled, but made himself turn around and walk to his car before he stayed any longer. Once Hunter got in his pickup truck, he waited a little bit just to make sure Milo would get into the building safely.
Milo finally closed the front door and he tiptoed to his room. Since his eyes hadn't fully adjusted, he bumped into a couple things, cringing every time. Finally making it to his room, he plopped right on his bed and fell asleep a minute later.
Hunter smiled softly, a warm happy feeling still in his chest. He took a moment before starting the car and making his way home. He lived with his foster parents and foster sister in a quaint little house not too far away from school. It took him a little bit until he finally pulled in the driveway and turned off the car. Hunter cringed when he saw the light was still on. He slowly approached his house, trying to be as quiet as possible as he opened his door.
It only took setting one foot inside the door before someone came barreling into him with a tight embrace. “Oh my gosh Hunter you’re alright, we were so worried!” Wendy, his foster mother, exclaimed, squishing him a little as she hugged him.
Hunter quickly pushed her away, “I’m fine-“
“Hunter Paul Kemp you get your butt in this house right now,” Carl, his foster father, said angrily, despite Hunter already being inside the house, “You have some explaining to do, young man,” Carl crossed his arms over his chest, a scowl on his face.
Before Hunter could even respond, Wendy cut in, “Oh honey, we were so worried about you, we thought about calling the police- what if someone kidnapped you or worse-“
“I’m fine.” Hunter interrupted coldly, already walking to his room.
“Hunter, don’t expect you’re off the hook, we’ll be discussing this in the mornin-“ Hunter slammed the door to his room before he could hear the end of Carl’s sentence, sighing. He already missed Milo. Hunter plopped on his bed without bothering to get under the blankets, and fell into a restless sleep for the night.
(Timeskip to the next day at school?)
(Yus!)
~Time Skip~
It was still dark outside when Milo woke up that morning. He realized that he was still in the clothes from the day before. Then the night before entered his mind. A big smile appeared on his face as he started getting undressed to take a shower. All he could think about was Hunter. It was a good thing he woke up so early because he had taken a long time to get ready, still thinking about Hunter. After finally getting ready, he said goodbye to his mom and left the apartment faster than usual. Speed walking, he made it to the school in record time. He sat out front waiting for Hunter.
Hunter had set his alarm earlier the next morning so he could wake up and hightail it out of there before his parents and sister woke. He felt like shit. Last night had been plagued by strange nightmares, with him and Milo. Except they didn’t like each other, and Hunter had kept hurting Milo. By the time he pulled into the school parking lot all he wanted to do was see Milo and make sure he was safe. Hunter made sure to wear a thick shirt and sweatshirt today, hoping it would hide the glow if he got close to Milo. If his friends found out they were soulmates… Hunter prayed that wouldn’t happen.
Milo saw Hunter's truck pull into the parking lot. He stood up, smiling while making his way to his truck. His chest started at a dull glow, but the closer he got, the brighter it got. Anxiously, he looked around to see if people were watching them, but they were early enough that not too many people were there yet. "Hi, Hunter~!" Milo said stopping right in front of him.
Hunter nearly jumped out of his skin -he had barely been paying attention- before a smile grew on his tired face. It was so good to see Milo safe. He put his hood up over his head, before giving Milo a quick embrace. “Hi Milo,” Hunter said softly, his eyes crinkling in the corners.
Milo kept his arms around Hunter even after he let go. "I'm so happy to see you!" He said looking up at him. Milo had never had anything like this, so it was totally new to him. Hunter was actually his first kiss. "How are you?"
“Tired,” Hunter replied, a yawn escaping him as he did so. “I didn’t sleep too well last night. How about you?” He asked with a small smile as his hands drifted back to Milo’s waist.
Milo nodded, still smiling. "I don't think I got enough sleep, but I'm good… I'm sorry you didn't sleep well." He said as he went up on his toes to kiss Hunter.
Hunter kissed Milo back, murmuring after the kiss, “Well that might just help me wake up.” He lifted his hand to run it through Milo’s hair, kissing him again. It was like a perfect harmony, no description could capture the moment because it was so perfect.
Milo ran his hands up and down Hunter's back as they continued to kiss. A small smiled was on his lips. A bit later, he forced himself to stop. "I just want to tell you that you… you are my first kiss…" Milo said with a smile. The ten-minute warning bell rang and he sighed.
“I’m your first kiss?” Hunter’s eyes widened slightly, “Did you- Was it what you expected?” Hunter hoped he didn’t let down Milo. Hunter had kissed Lexi before, and a few girls before he started dating her, but Milo had been different. Kissing Milo… it felt like it put weight in the word ‘kiss’. Like it was no longer just a word or an action, but moment that held so much love in it. He glanced at the school, seeing people start rushing in. Hunter knew his friends were somewhere in there, and it was only a few more moment before he had to part ways with Milo.
"It was so much more," Milo said with a smile. He gave Hunter one last kiss, before pulling away very hesitantly. "See you in P.E.?" A sad smile was on his face.
A small feeling of pride swelled in Hunter’s chest at Milo’s response, but the. he glanced at the school. “Yeah, I’ll see you then,” He sighed, wishing he could just stay here all day with Milo. “We should probably go in at different times, so my friends don’t know…” Hunter trailed off, a frown growing on his face.
"Yeah…" Milo said with slight sadness. "I'll um, go first since I'm usually at school first anyway." He looked down for a second before he gave Hunter a smile and started walking to the school. He put his hand behind his back signing "I love you" to Hunter.
Hunter smiled back at him as he walked away, a warm fluttery feeling sparkling in his chest. He waited a few minutes before going in himself, only to have his friends, Jacob and Chase, greet him. “Hey Hunter!” Jacob called before they walked up beside him. “Check this out, that know-it-all has a soulmate.” Hunter froze, heart beating rapidly in his chest until Jacob showed him his phone. It was a selfie so middle schooler had taken on the stopped ride, and it showed him and Milo in the background. Hunter’s head was, thankfully, covered by his hood. Jacob’s voice finally shook him out of his head, “…should go give him a little talking to after school, we’ll meet you by his locker.”
“I-“ Hunter’s protest was cut off my the bell, and Jacob and Chase were already heading to class, since if they were late again they’d get another detention. “Shit,” Hunter muttered to himself, wanting to kick something. He didn’t know how he’d get out of this one…
Milo was smiling a little too much while sitting in class. He was drawing 6 hearts at a time for each letter in Hunter's name. He couldn't wait to see Hunter again, but he knew he couldn't really be with him during school. There was a sad undertone to it though. Milo would have to stay away from Hunter all school day since they were notorious for being on bad conditions. Some people were even against them being even friends. Milo was brought out of his thoughts by the teacher. She had called on him. He looked at the board and answered the question with ease after a bit of hesitation.
It felt like it took forever before PE class came. Hunter had been trying to think of ways he could get out of what his friends wanted to do at the end of school, but it all seemed to come to the same conclusion—Jacob and Chase would still want him to beat up Milo. Hunter had to talk to him, but in the locker room before class, Hunter’s friends kept hanging around him so he never got a chance to get away and talk to Milo privately.
