“Sure,” Hunter reached out and grabbed Milo’s hand, rubbing his knuckles with his thumb. “But don’t over work yourself, you’re still healing, love,” He reminded softly with a smile, kissing Milo on the cheek again as he led him out to the kitchen. Carl was making some pre seasoned pasta. Hunter opened one of the cabinets to reveal a stack of plates.
Looking like a child with his sweater paws he took three plates and placed them down, smiling all the while. The pain medicine had done a really good job, but it was starting to wear off, a dull pain started, coming from Milo's stomach. He slowly made his way to a chair, sitting down and leaning his head on his arms trying to relax.
Hunter got out a forks for all of them, and pulled up a chair right next to Milo’s and laying his head on his arms too so he could look at Milo at eye level. Carl glanced behind himself, before clearing his throat, “So… uh, why are you two boys here?”
“Milo got hurt, I took him here so he could rest in a proper bed,” Hunter responded plainly.
“Oh. That’s… nice. I mean, not nice about your soulmate- I- um, I mean Milo getting hurt,” Carl stammered, and Hunter had a feeling he was turning red as he mixing the noodles.
Milo shifted his head a little to kiss Hunter on his nose, giving Hunter a small smile after. He lifted up his head so he could speak properly. "Um, Mr. Kemp, is there anything I can help you with?"
“N-No,” Hunter’s foster father quickly replied, looking back, “It’s almost done anyways,” Carl offered a smile. After a few moments, Carl turned off the stove burner and brought the saucepan over and spooned out a serving for each of them.
"Okay," Milo replied softly as he sat up. He smiled back to Carl. "Thank you, sir." He almost wanted to make it up to Carl for earlier with being very polite. He kind of wanted to impress him as well. Taking a bite, his eyes widened. "This is delicious!" Milo loved pasta, it was one of his very favorite foods.
“No need to call me sir,” Carl said as he sat down too eyeing Hunter critically, “I hardly get that treatment from my own son, you’re too polite.” Hunter bit his tongue to hold in his snarky remark. And his correction of ‘son’ to ‘foster son’.
Carl smiled at Milo, “Aww, thank you. It’s only from the package, though I do add a few extra spices and things for flavor.” Hunter nearly rolled his eyes.
Milo nodded "You're welcome!" He took another bite, very happy to be there. He was getting used to the horrid school lunches so this was almost gourmet compared to that.
Hunter smiled a little at Milo’s smile. If his soulmate was happy… well, even with Carl around Hunter would be happy. “Soooo… how did you two meet?” Carl asked as it was silent for a few seconds.
Milo stiffened, turning his head to look at Hunter. He had no idea what to say. He didn't know if Carl knew that Hunter used to be a bully and if not… what would Milo say? Just "at school" wasn't much of an answer, it's pretty obvious. He was panicking, his mind on red alert. "We… uh…" He had no idea what to do, he was looking at Hunter hoping he would know what to say.
Hunter glanced at Milo, before saying, “None of your business.” Carl frowned a bit, but Hunter ignored that. He didn’t even want to know what Carl would think if he told him how they found out they were soulmates. Sure, Carl knew that Hunter got into a lot of trouble at school for bullying, but what would he say if he knew that Hunter bullied Milo?
Carl sighed, turning his attention more to Milo, “Well, I’m sure we’ll talk more tomorrow for dinner, if you can still come Milo?”
"I wouldn't miss it for the world." Milo relaxed a little turning back to face Carl. He got excited again for it. To busy himself, he took another bite, fully relaxing. Pasta must be Milo's comfort food because he always felt better after eating it.
“I got to get back to work now, we’re in our busy season, so I’ll see you later,” Carl said with a smile, scooping up the last of his noodles in his mouth and grabbing his briefcase. He looked back to Hunter one last time, “And please don’t get yourselves into too much trouble. I don’t want another call from the principal.”
"See you tomorrow! Thank you again!" Milo said with a little smile. He was in an exceptionally good mood if he didn't think about the constant dull pain in his stomach.
Carl smiled one more time before he left, and Hunter finally spoke again, “You know you don’t have to be nice to him cause he’s my fake father.” He shrugged, eating another forkful of pasta.
"But what if I want to? I like respecting and being nice to adults. They deserve it, or at least some of them do." Milo said before finishing off his plate and leaning back with a smile. Sitting up again, he scooted his chair until it touched Hunter's. He then lied his head on Hunter's shoulder.
Hunter gave a half smile, “Alright then. But pretty soon Carl is gonna wish you were his son instead of me,” He laughed lightly, kissing the top of Milo’s head. Hunter finished off his plate of pasta then wrapped his arm over Milo’s shoulders.
"I guess he's just gonna have to deal with you as his son," Milo said, kissing Hunter's cheek. "But at least I'll probably be with you about 20/7, hopefully 24/7 at some point." He smiled, a little laugh escaping his mouth as well.
Hunter smiled, leaning his head on the table. “I want to live with you, love. I don’t care long I have to wait, but I’m gonna live with you someday,” Hunter vowed with a smile. “I’ll even build the house myself if I have to.”
Milo's smiled widened. "That sounds wonderful! I'll help you build it if we have to… I love you, Hunter. I was about to say 'more than you could imagine' but I think you know." He shifted so he could look at Hunter, a smile still on his lips.
“I do know,” Hunter assured with a smile, leaning in so he could kiss Milo’s adorable forehead. “I love you til the end of the earth and back.” Hunter smiled, looking into Milo’s adorable eyes.
Milo shifted again, wrapping his arms around Hunter. He closed his eyes, comfortable and happy. He couldn't have asked for anything else, this was perfect.
Hunter smiled, wrapping his arms around Milo too and breathing him in. “Want to watch a movie or something?” He asked softly, putting his face in Milo’s hair.
Milo smiled, "That sounds wonderful. What do you wanna watch?" He said into Hunter's neck. This was slightly an odd way to hug someone, between two chairs, he was betting the couch would be a lot more comfortable.
“Anything you want to watch,” Hunter replied, slowly withdrawing only to stand and lift Milo into his arms with a smile, “We got plenty of genres to look through.”
