"Yes, you are." Jade chuckled as the door creaked open and Sophie walked in.
"Phew… What a day." Sophie sighed, kicking off her shoes and pulling her hair out of a tight ponytail. "I almost wish I could quit this job and freelance like you do, Jade."
Raven looked up, flashing a quick smile. "Ah, and this must be Sophie." she greeted.
Sophie's head shot up at the new voice and turned to look at Raven. “Oh, sorry. I didn't know you had company.”
“It’s alright, Soph. I was actually hoping you’d get to meet.” Jade smirked a little. “Raven, this is my roommate Sophie. Sophie, this is Raven. She helped me out earlier today.” she introduced the two, wondering if and how to mention that they also worked together.
"Nice to meet you, Sophie." Raven said, smiling a little bit as she looked over at the other girl.
“Nice to meet you too.” Sophie nodded as she somewhat subtly checked out Raven.
Raven's red hair hung around her shoulders, since she'd let it out of the bun earlier and hadn't put it back up.
“Jade… Are you secretly a photographer for a supermodel agency or something?” she asked, raising a brow at her roommate without taking her eyes off Raven.
“What? Oh, come on, Soph. You know what I get paid for. Why would you think that?”
Raven blinked, laughing quietly at the question, but didn't say anything. The question hadn't been directed at her, after all.
“Well, it may be the fact that the first two friends that you actually bring home, who I didn't set you up with, and just hang out with are… I mean first you have that fine hunk that you are dating. And don't try to convince me that you're not, otherwise I might try to make a move.” Sophie smirked, giving Jade a wink. “And now, you expect me to believe that you just randomly ran into this knockout?” she added as she looked at Raven, her voice somewhere between teasing and sarcastic even though her compliments were honest.
"Now I'm even more curious about this mystery beau of yours, Jade." She commented, smiling lightly and looking from Jade to Sophie.
“It’s not like that.” Jade protested as a blush warmed her cheeks.
“Oh, really?” Sophie smirked, raising a brow. “Because, in my experience, you don't stay over at guys house for two full days and not call it dating… Not to mention spending the night on two separate occasions.”
Raven smirked, raising her eyebrows. "Oh? Do tell."
Jade groaned at her roommate's comments, her blush darkening. “It… Ok. The first time was because I had an emergency and he was close by. I stayed on the couch.” she explained as she tried to remember if it really was just the two nights Sophie mentioned or if it was actually three…
“And the second? When you had me bring you some pj's and a fresh set of clothes?” Sophie encouraged with a growing smirk.
“I told you about that! He was sick and… I wanted to keep an eye on him.” Jade defended a little indignant.
Raven laughed quietly. "Mhm, sure. I'm sure that's what happened."
“My thoughts exactly, Ray-ray.” Sophie smirked, the nickname just flowing off her lips.
“It’s the truth! And I don't have to prove a thing to either of you.” Jade almost growled, growing annoyed by the teasing.
Raven blinked. "No, you don't have to prove anything if you don't want to. It's just odd you're keeping him such a big secret."
Jade sighed, calming down, and shook her head. “I… I'm not keeping him a secret. It's just complicated.”
“Why? Because you two were “rivals at work” for a few years?” Sophie asked. “Look if you can be as close as you are with him, then I don't get what the big deal is.”
Raven's brows drew together a little at the rivals part, wondering what that could mean. Jade was a freelancer, she had thought, though maybe she was wrong.
“It’s really not as easy as you think it sounds, Sophie. Now just drop it.” Jade sighed as she rubbed her forehead slightly.
“Fine.” Sophie resigned, drawing out the word in clear annoyance. “But just for now. I’ll get answers someday.” she promised as she flopped down on the couch beside Raven.
Raven smiled a little, glancing over at Sophie before looking at Jade again.
Sophie smiled back and winked playfully at Raven.
Jade sighed a little, slightly relieved that the topic of “her boyfriend” had been dropped… for now. With Sophie, it was only a matter of time before she brought him up again.
Raven returned the wink with a quiet laugh, then looked at Jade. "Would you like to finish our game, or should we pick a new one?"
“Since you are the guest, you can pick.” Jade shrugged politely.
“What were you guys playing before I walked in?” Sophie asked, raising a brow at the deck of cards though she was still smiling at Raven.
"War. Simple enough." Raven replied. "Though it's not really a three player game." She smiled back.
“War’s a good game. You don't have to stop on my account.” Sophie smiled warmly.
