Oh, woof.
Jericho, New York, 1989- Known for its high levels of supernatural activity, Jericho- also known as Dog City- is both a melting pot of cultures and a pressure cooker waiting to blow all of them right back up. There’s a series of werewolf packs, and they’re angry. Angry at each other, angry at the world, no matter where their anger is directed- it’s there, and it’s only mounting. The smallest thing could be a catalyst resulting in full riots.

And for the two packs with the largest feud- the Dog City Devils and the Blacktooth Walkers- they’re on the cusp of a full-on war.

I really love West Side Story. And I really love supernatural stories. Naturally, I’m attempting to combine the two. I’m looking for a romance, something gritty and slow burn (enemies to lovers, anyone?). I was also heavily inspired by Trick Blue’s song You Repulse Me (But Not Enough, so I recommend giving that a listen if you’d like to join!

Jericho (Dog City)
A bustling city in New York, number one in the world if you want to see a ghost, get cursed, or get torn apart by werewolves. Dead birds will drop from the sky, and that guy across the bar looks too similar to you for it to be a coincidence. And hey, is that car following you? The crime rate is sky-high, but the mayor would do anything to try and hide that. Including attempting to run werewolves out of his city (“If they want to act like animals, we’ll treat them like animals.”)

Werewolf packs are simultaneously treated like gangs and like packs of feral dogs. A lone werewolf is no stranger to getting animal control called on them- even when they’re not in shift.

The Dog City Devils
The largest pack in Jericho, but not nearly the most aggressive. They offer strength in numbers, not weapons. Members of DCD don’t tend to live in the same apartment (or complex), there are just too many- instead, they’re scattered across Jericho, covering as much ground as possible. Pack members are charged a yearly fee of $100 to cover the protection that the pack offers. They pay off corrupt cops to ignore their ‘hunting’ habits, and like many other packs, each member is given a tattoo to signify their membership.

Blacktooth Walkers
The Blacktooth Walkers are a small pack, quickly growing in size. 15 members, roughly, known as Blackteeth. Small but ridiculously strong. This pack is fueled by anger at the system, unsatisfied with the approach other packs are taking. Without the money to pay off cops, Blackteeth use brutal, guerrilla tactics to hunt and survive. Like DCD, their packmates use tattoos to identify themselves to others. These tattoos are on the neck or shoulder, making them purposely difficult to hide. Blackteeth usually find themselves grouping together in apartments, living in cramped spaces and splitting the rent. As of now, the Blackteeth are split between two apartments on

Rules and Regulations
There are some exceptions to these. I’ll describe ‘em below.

  • andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)’s rules apply.
  • I do not give a single fuck what you say in terms of language. Except that you can’t say racial slurs. Insults and derogatory language targeted at werewolves? Fuckin’.. go hog wild, man, because they’re not real. If you have questions, tell me.
  • I’m going to go ahead and put up a warning for excessive gore and violence. This is gonna be angsty as hell, if we play our cards right.
  • Put! Effort! In! Be active! I’m really rooting for this RP to not die.
  • Got ideas? Put ‘em in. You can clear them with me if they’re brutal, but otherwise? Just try to worm them in.
  • READ ALL OF THE WRITEUPS THAT I POST. THEY ARE IMPORTANT. I know that they’re very lengthy, but I want you to have a strong understanding of how this works!
  • I’d prefer to avoid anything explicitly sexual, sorry.
  • These characters will be young, between 16 and 19. Please keep that in mind.

    Werewolves
    Appearance
    For starters, note that like humans, werewolves are neither a hive mind nor from one collective nation or continent. However, werewolves all share a few defining characteristics. All werewolves have at least large canines, however werewolves with a more “pure” bloodline will have big, dog-like teeth. Many are naturally tall, the average height being around 6’5”. There seems to be a shared predisposition for strength and high muscle growth. Werewolves share incredibly pale eyes, although there are a few cases of werewolves born with deep brown eyes. Many cover up their paler eyes with color contacts in an attempt to hide their werewolf identity.
    Shift Cycles
    A shift cycle is generally caused by a spike in testosterone production. A shifting period can last anywhere from 12 hours to a week, and it is nearly always excruciatingly painful (bone structure changes, muscle spasms and adjustments, etc). Werewolves generally shift every 29-30 days (Roughly 4 weeks), although it depends on both what subset of werewolf they are and just genetics, although a number of exterior factors can affect a werewolf’s shift as well (diet, shift cycle of those around them, if they’re taking hormones or not). Werewolves will generally be ravenously hungry before and after shifting, given that they burn so many calories. There are two widely accepted categories of werewolves: the “primal” werewolf (your stereotypical anthropomorphic wolf), and the “feral” werewolf (a large creature, wolffish in appearance- more akin to a giant wolf). The “feral” werewolf seems to be the most common, with entire packs made from that one subset alone.
    Health and Diet
    A werewolf’s diet can be anywhere from entirely human to entirely animalistic, with most falling somewhere in between (usually leaning towards the former, for safety reasons). Most werewolves are able to ingest a number of “human” foods, mainly those that are safe for dogs (i.e.- blueberries, rice). Werewolves should, however, have a diet mainly consisting of lightly to non-seasoned meats, preferably raw. The absolute safest diet for a werewolf is strictly raw meats, often human, although they can have select human foods every so often. Most werewolves, while they can and do drink alcohol, are incredibly lightweight with a low tolerance.

Werewolves are prone to a number of health problems later in life, mainly having to do with improper nutrition. They are more at risk for things like hip dysplasia, arthritis, and in extreme cases, a permanent shift. This would occur when a werewolf, of course, doesn’t come out of their shift, generally stuck in their more animalistic form. Taking hormones doesn’t seem to increase the risk of this, as it seems to be somewhat genetic, however many werewolves on hormone treatment will have an increase in shift levels, especially those who take testosterone. Werewolves on estrogen see a decrease, but never a stop. Most werewolves die before reaching 65, whether it be health-related issues, societal issues, or both.

Named for the mythical dog, Cerberus Syndrome is one of the only conditions that solely affects werewolves. It’s a sort of polycephaly, technically. A werewolf will be born with two to three heads, the extra being permanently stuck as either a more human-like form, a werewolf’s head, or somewhere in between the two. Most werewolves born with this do not survive past a few months. Cerberus Syndrome can be caused by a variety of factors, but, just like polycephaly, it is the result of a malformed embryo.
Why do werewolves exist?
They are like any species- they just do. Werewolves look humanoid, but are an entirely different species from them.

What are werewolves like socially?
Again, werewolves are not hive minds. However, like dogs, it’s better for a werewolf to live and work with others, and they quickly form pack bonds.

Personality-wise, of course gullible and dumber werewolves exist, although a very survival driven and family driven personality tends to be most common, despite what the media tries to convey.

How do werewolf packs function?
Like a wolf pack, werewolves see other pack mates as equals, rather than the stereotypical alpha and beta. (Denmothers and fathers exist, generally the founders of the pack). Werewolves see packmates as siblings and family, not friends (and especially not lovers). It’s not uncommon for a group of werewolf friends to group together and form their own pack.

Packs generally share one home or apartment, but larger ones will split apart into homes within the same city or town.

@GoblinKing

(Yeah! I’ll get a template up soon, but do you have any ideas or preferences? I was thinking that your character could possibly get into a scuffle w/my character’s pack, and that’s how they meet?)

@PrettyLittlePyro

(It doesn't really matter to me! I've done both! So, quick thing, I didn't understand… are you one wolf from a pack and I'm from the other?)

@GoblinKing

(Pretty much! The only two I’ve described are the Blackteeth and DCD, but you could honestly make up your own if you wanted. I’m railing for mine to be a Blacktooth, lmao)

@GoblinKing

(ah damn Pyro beat me to the good roleplay)

(If you want, Ash, I can also do this with you?)

(Sure, if you wanna!)

(Cool, cool! Actually, do you mind if we do this in PMs so it’s easier to keep track?)

@PrettyLittlePyro

(Alright! I might just make up my own, although I do have an idea about how I could use the DCD. Also, are you sure you don't have a preferense for sexuality? Because I have a male and a female that works for this that I can think of.)

@SpookyScarySnoteleks group

(ah damn Pyro beat me to the good roleplay)

(If you want, Ash, I can also do this with you?)

(Sure, if you wanna!)

(Cool, cool! Actually, do you mind if we do this in PMs so it’s easier to keep track?)

(I don't mind!)

@GoblinKing

(When I think about it, I kinda lean towards MxM, sorry about that! Do you want me to post a template, or should we link pages? I’m not too fond of going in blind, lmao)

@PrettyLittlePyro

(Alright, I'm okay with MxM! And sure, a template would be fine! Do you want me to write super descriptive or just simple stuff, and maybe a picture of two?)

@GoblinKing

(As in the template or actual RP? For both, I like to get descriptive! I feel like it pushes the plot a lot further! Pictures are super welcome. I’ll get the template in a second, I actually have a base one that I use!)

@GoblinKing

(Here’s mine, lmk if you have questions about him or the template!)
NAME (FULL): Abraham (Abe) Walton
GENDER: Male
AGE: 18
SEXUALITY: Gay (closeted)
SPECIES/RACE: Werewolf
OCCUPATION: Gas station attendant, as well as a busboy at a local Mexican restaurant
PACK AFFILIATION: The Blacktooth Walkers
TYPE OF SHIFT (FERAL/PRIMAL): Feral
APPEARANCE:

  • General face claim (links only!): This
  • Height/Weight: 6’5(.5)”, 184 lbs
  • Build: Muscular from years of manual labor and training
  • Skin tone: Roughly this tone
  • Face shape: Soft, yet almost pointed.
  • Hair color: Black/Deep, deep brown
  • Eye color: Pale blue
  • Hair texture: Extremely coily (Around 4c)
  • Hairstyle/cut: Short twists (See his FC for reference!)
  • Facial Hair: N/A
  • Noticeable marks: Extremely sharp and wolfish teeth- they’re fairly large when compared to a human’s; like all Blackteeth, he has a wolf tattooed onto the side of his neck.
  • Piercings(?): Both of his ears are pierced, and he keeps faux-silver studs in.
  • Clothing style: Function over form. Abe spends a good chunk of his time outside of work either taking care of the youngest in his pack or helping to hunt, so the more he can move the better. This is similar to his normal outfit.
  • Preferred weapons: Either his hands, a baseball bat, or a 5” knife given to him by his grandfather

PERSONALITY:

  • Traits: Abe is incredibly loyal to his pack and aggressive towards outsiders. He’s quiet at home, but his bite is way worse than his bark. Abe can’t stand being pushed around by anyone, much less anyone outside of his pack, and he’ll do nearly anything to make sure people don’t even try it. He’s guarded. The only emotion he really shows to those outside of his pack is anger, but he has a secret soft side for small children. (The rest will be developed!)
  • Fears: House fires, spiders, getting hit by a car or stuck in his shift, death in general
  • Likes: His packmates, dogs, when he can actually eat something besides raw meat, the color green, rock music, daytime, cold weather, neon lights, cheap beer and the people who’ll sell it to him.
  • Dislikes: Police, the media, cold medicine (because no matter what it says, it’s never safe for werewolves!), left-handed scissors (“they don’t even work!”), strong smells and sounds, and a whole lot of other shit.
  • Strengths: Winning arguments, physical strength & athletics, hand-to-hand combat
  • Weaknesses: Being emotionally vulnerable, handling conflicts one on one, silver
  • Hobbies: Playing guitar, playing sports (there’s a basketball court behind his apartment he likes to use)
  • Talents: Keeping children calm/entertaining them, he’s good at cooking (though he hates it, doesn’t have a use for it, and’ll never really do it), memorizing numbers and times

BACKGROUND:

  • Family (Note the dead): Raised an only child before joining the Blackteeth at age 16, once both of his parents had died (his mother from either police or animal control related incidents, he isn’t sure which), and his father from being attacked while in shift.
  • Pets?: N/A, but he’ll sometimes leave any scraps that he gets out for the rats and feral dogs.
  • Social Class: Working poor
  • Country of Origin: Jericho, New York, America
