"I'm going to go see what you are staring at Felix, I'll be right back." She shoved her hands into her pockets and trudged over to the store, standing in various places in front of it to see exactly where he was staring.
"I'm going to go see what you are staring at Felix, I'll be right back." She shoved her hands into her pockets and trudged over to the store, standing in various places in front of it to see exactly where he was staring.
He wasn’t staring at anything particular. Just near a poster of that beautiful woman and her happy little lottery card.
Teylie glanced at Felix and them back at the poster, pointing at it and mouthing "This is what you are looking at?"
Felix didn’t respond, and his gaze didn’t waver. He just continued staring aimlessly at the pretty poster.
She walked inside and had a quick conversation with the cashier, buying two lottery tickets that were on that poster. She jogged back to Felix and sat down on the ground, "Well Felix, this is just because i'm bored.."
Felix was frozen in his place, as usual, unmoving as she scratched out the little scratch-offs. Everyone knew the poster for the lottery was a scam. But as she scratched, the little pictures lined up right. She just had to scratch off one more bee to win the jackpot.
Teylie's face lit up as she looked at the ticket, "Felix…I might win…." she stood up next to him and held out the ticket "Do you think I'll win?"
Felix didn’t respond nor move. Perhaps if he were alive he’d prompt her to scratch off the last one to see if she wins.
Teylie shrugged "It's worth a shot…." she carefully scratched off the last square and closed her eyes "I'm too nervous to look."
Well, when she eventually looked, it turned out to be… another bee! She had won the $200,000 jackpot!
Teylie squealed happily and hugged Felix, knowing that he probably wasn't going to hug back "Felix! I just won!!"
Felix didn’t hug back nor share in her excitement. The other card she got laid at his feet, fluttering threateningly.
"Eeeeeeeeeee! what should I do with my money!" she smiled up at him "Well, first I'm going to see if there is any way to unfreeze you.." she picked up the other lottery ticket and held it out "Should scratch this one off too?"
Felix didn’t say anything, though it probably would be wise of her to scratch off the other. No use in wasting money!
Teylie smiled happily and scratched off the boxes, not surprised that it wasn't a winner. She jogged back to the store and turned the winning ticket in, a giant smile on her face.
The person at the desk seemed surprised but called in the win anyway. They asked for her name and address, so the cash could get sent to her when it was drummed up.
"Teylie Carr, 152 Witberry Rd." She smiled triumphantly and tapped her fingers on the counter.
The person nodded and wrote it down, taking her card. “Okay. We’ll send it in today, and you should get the cash soon.”
She nodded "Ok, thank you!" she said happily and walked back out the door, almost skipping back to Felix.
Felix was still blank and soulless, his eyes staring out forward. No signs of pent up excitement or giddiness.
Teylie walked over to Felix and sat down by him, still smiling like crazy.
The wind tossed up their hair and chilled her bones. The soft hush of the trees in wind whistled out.
She shivered lightly and rubbed her arms, feeling goosebumps. "How do you stand this Felix…it's cold out." Teylie stood up quickly and smiled "stay right there, I'll be right back." She dashed across the street to her house and grabbed two blankets, running back to Felix and draping one over his shoulders. "There, I don't care if you don't need it, it makes me feel better that you have it."
Felix didn’t respond nor did he thank her for the blanket. He just stared and stared.
Teylie wrapped the other blanket around herself as she sat down, not wanting to go back inside but also not wanting to stay out here.
