Anya accepted his hand and used it to swing herself out of the sewers, landing easily on her feet. She clasped the pearls around her neck and nodded to him.
Anya accepted his hand and used it to swing herself out of the sewers, landing easily on her feet. She clasped the pearls around her neck and nodded to him.
Spencer nodded back at her absentmindedly. He was looking around, checking their surroundings for any sign of a threat. It was peaceful. Almost too peaceful.
"Something feels off," he muttered, his hand going to rest subconsciously where his gun was concealed.
“Concealed for a reason,” Anya said, nodding to his hand. “Noah, cmon, you’re being rediculous.”
Spencer blinked and dropped his hand. He really hadn't realized he was doing that. Shaking his head, he went back into 'Noah mode' and smiled at Anya.
"Sorry, Leslie. I guess I'm just wary because of earlier," Noah said.
“Yeah. I dunno why that would happen to us,” Leslie said. “I’m pretty sure we go this way.”
"We must have been mistaken for someone else," Noah proposed, following Leslie.
“That’s the only explanation,” Leslie agreed. “I mean, government issue cars are pretty much all identical.”
Noah nodded. "That they are. I'm sure it was an honest mistake. Although, not too honest…"
Leslie laughed, but there was no humor in the sound. “That’s all that makes sense.” Thy arrived at the entrance they’d been instructed to arrive at, albeit a half-hour late and smeared with ash and dust. Leslie looked over at Noah, as if for reassurance.
Noah pulled out a card and swiped it in front of the door, giving Leslie a reassuring smile. He opened the door for her, letting her go in first.
“Thank you,” Leslie nodded, stepping through. The place was eerily quiet.
Noah crossed his arms over his chest. What was with places feeling off today? His eyes flicked back and forth over the room, subtly taking everything in.
"I think we're supposed to wait here until we're called," he stated. He looked to Leslie, and Spencer's eyes said that there was more.
“I think so, too,” Leslie agreed, but Anya readied herself for a surprise attack.
//gtg
His eyes still scanning the room, Spencer subtly moved closer to Anya. He turned slightly so that his back was to hers, that way they would have a view of most of the room.
Anya didn’t flinch when the first gunshot went off. She just fired back in quick succession, hoping she hit her target. (That ok??)
(Definitely!)
Two more shots were fired in their direction, one nearly grazing Spencer's arm as it passed. He shot back blindly, and, hearing an "Oof!" coming from the direction he'd shot, knew he'd hit his target.
"Whelp. There goes our 'easy job'," he half-joked.
“Sadly,” Anya agreed, flipping over a chair and shooting the man kneeling behind it. “You got the other?”
"Yup," Spencer said, firing at one of the other men who had just appeared.
I wonder what tipped them off? Somehow they had to have known we were coming…
“We clear?” Anya asked, spinning around.
(I gtg soon. Work… Blah.)
Spencer shot at one last guy before nodding. "I believe so," he said, casting another glance around the room.
//kk me too but not for work lol
“Great. Let’s keep going,” Anya said, hopping over the overturned chair and leading the way out of the room.
(Lol. Okay.)
Spencer followed Anya out of the room, occasionally looking back to make sure no one was following them. Gosh, he probably looked paranoid, but that was a small price to pay for being at least a little bit safer.
Anya pressed her back against the wall, gun at her side, and slunk amongst the hallways. She tried to communicate with Spencer through hand signals, head shakes, and meaningful looks, but she wasn’t sure he got the message….
Unfortunately, they hadn't completely covered signals in Spencer's extensive spy training. He just gave her a look that said, I don't understand, and continued walking.
NO that meant STAWP, Anya thought desperately.
