Lucas took another small bite of the apple and avoided eye contact with Skye. He was still pretty sure he could trust him, but he didn't want Skye to neglect his own health for Lucas's sake.
Lucas took another small bite of the apple and avoided eye contact with Skye. He was still pretty sure he could trust him, but he didn't want Skye to neglect his own health for Lucas's sake.
Skye sighed, he didn't have enough to support both of them, and five apples, not counting the one Lucas had, was not going to last long. Skye sighed, lying back as he tried to think of a place that would hire him if he applied.
"Y-You okay…?" Lucas asked quietly, still staring intently at the ground.
"Just peachy" he said with a long sigh. not wanting to scare the other.
He's lying again… Lucas fell silent, blinking away tears. The apple shook slightly in his trembling hand, and he gripped it tighter so it would be less noticeable.
Skye noticed this and sat up watching him with concern. "Hey.. are you alright? Did I do something wrong?" he asked worriedly, scared he had hurt the other.
(Well obviously dummy!)
"I-I know you're lying, you know…" Lucas mumbled, just staring at the apple. Maybe I won't cry if I just keep my eyes open?
Skye's face fell, and he bit his lip uncomfortably, "I… I'm sorry Lucas…" he whispered, "I just don't want you to worry…. You've been through so much it's not right that you would have to worry…" he sighed, "I'm sorry…."
"It's okay… I… I-I understand…" Lucas bit his lip a bit. Don't do it… A tear rolled down his cheek and he quickly brushed it away. God Dammit. "I know everything is going to go to shit since I'm here now. I-I know we haven't got enough food, and I know… I-I know it's all my fault…" Another tear fell, but it was on the side facing away from Skye, so Lucas decided to just ignore it.
Skye quickly pulled up against him, "It's not your fault. It's not." he said, "And seriously, I've never had enough food in my whole life, so it doesn't really matter to me that much…" he said honestly, he didn't want to hurt the other again, so he wasn't going to try and lie again, not if he could help it.
"N-Neither have I… you don't have to worry about g-giving me your food…" Stop crying… please… Lucas hid his face in Skye's shoulder so the other couldn't see that he was crying.
Skye sighed, telling himself repeatedly that it'd be okay and they'd find a way through winter, but he couldn't be sure.
I should just leave… I'm causing so many problems just by being here. Lucas gripped the fabric of Skye's shirt, holding his breath in an attempt to get himself to stop crying.
Skye held him tightly, "Hey.. it's gonna be okay, it's gonna be hard, and I'm gonna need you to stay strong, and I promise I'm gonna try to do the same for you… we're gonna make it." he said, half to himself.
"H… H-How do you know? We could die like this…" And if one of us dies, the other will probably follow suit. We've got five apples to last who knows long; it's not likely we'll do well by any means.
"Both of us can look for jobs for starters, and we can ration what we have," he said, "I know exactly how long I can go without, and exactly how much I need and when to keep going, so don't worry about me, I've been doing it for years."
Where could I work? I'm useless at just about everything… "W-What kind of place would hire people like us?"
"That's the biggest problem…" he said with a sigh, "but it's still worth it."
I'm not worth all this trouble… "…I'm scared." Lucas whispered after a few seconds. "I-If this doesn't work out… this wasn't exactly how I planned to die…"
You'renot going to die. I refuse to let that happen…" he said firmly, hugging him tighter despite the knowledge that that was a very real threat come winter.
(What if Lucas ran off back home and Skye finds bruises and he's like shit he's getting beat)
Lucas finally let himself cry. He still felt hopeless, but he knew there was someone trying to help him live even when he'd lost the will.
(Do it. It'll break Skye's heart times 2)
Skye held him, wishing the other's life could just get easier, and not harder.
(I'll do it when Skye goes to sleep lol)
Lucas hated crying in front of people, but he was too exhausted to stop himself. Maybe if I went back… I wouldn't be burdening him. After a minute or two, Lucas pretended he'd fallen asleep.
Skye sighed, wishing he could make the other feel better. When he noticed the other had fallen asleep he carefully laid the other down on the matress before going into the locked filing cabinet with the key he had.
Lucas watched Skye carefully whenever the other wasn't looking, waiting for him to fall asleep. I can go then… father won't be very happy with me…
