Hey john, mind opening your window?
John replied, Ew never sarcastically, and opened his window. His little brother peered over curiously.
She waved, unrolling the fire ladder. "Ready?"
John peeled the headphones off his brother, Kayden came over and peered outside with wide eyes. "Yes ma'am," John yelled back down.
She tossed the top end up to him
He reached out his arms to catch it so it didnt smack on the side of the house. "Kaykay?"
"Yeah?" His little brother replied.
"Want to go down first?"
Kayden peered down the ladder. "…no…."
She moved to stand at the base, looking up.
"Coming down!" John called, throwing his legs over the windowsill to clamber out onto the ladder.
She nodded, looking around in case
He began desvending the ladder, little brother nervously watching from above.
"Okay, okay, okay…" She muttered.
He plopped down onto the grass. "It's okay, Kayden!" He yelled from below. Kayden whimpered fearfully.
"Kaykay, it's going to be fine, okay? Promise. We're right here." She called up, smiling softly.
Kayden braced himself to crawl through the window, oh so painstakingly slow.
"You're doing just fine sweetie!"
Kayden clutched the ladder with terror as he descended, one slow step at a time.
"There you go, easy does it, now…"
John stepped forward and gathered his little brother in his arms once he touched down. "There you go.."
"Now, we should probably run…" She said, turning to them. "You alright, both of ya?"
Kayden nodded timidly.
"Lets get the hell outta here," John breathed.
"Yeah." She said. "To my house!" She struck a weird pose before running
Kayden grasped his older brothers hand as they escaped.
She hummed adventure music, trying to cheer them up a bit.
Her attempts made the little kid smile. John spoke lovingly to his brother, "Just like spiderman. On his way to save people,"
Kayden giggled quietly.
