Runner shrugged, stretching his legs out as far a they would go. "Fair enough. So….what now?"
(Any ideas yet for a main plot?)

(hmmmmm, maybe New York is attacked by monsters or demons in search of either Runner or Tess?)
Tessa shrugged as well. "I could go for some food right about now."
(I mean, it could be both considering they're both pretty swol in the magical sense)
(Very true. So you wanna do that?)
(Yas)
"Anywhere good to eat nearby?" he asked. "I've yet to visit New York yet."
"I mean, there's a McDonald's nearby. It's totally not like I picked this place for the sheer convenience of how close the restaurant is…"
He cracked a small grin, the first time she saw him even get close to smiling. "I think it's a good move, not gonna lie."
She smirked and set her stuff to the side. "I don't just have nasty tricks up my sleeve. I can be smart when it comes to food."
"Never implied it was anything wrong." He said, standing up.
"No, you didn't. I'm just saying." She stood up as well and grabbed her wallet, then slipped on some flip flops.
He chose to just walk out barefoot, something he was most comfortable with. "How far did you say it was, again?"
"Nearby," she said seriously, then looked over at him. "It's two blocks away. Think you can make it?"
"I'm not hurt," he huffed, wiggling his toes.
"Uh huh," She headed out of her house and gestured for Runner to go on ahead so she could lock it behind them.
He did so, cracking his knuckles as he did so. "Think anything crazy'll happen?"
"It's New York. I'd be surprised if something boring'll happen." She locked the door, then led him down the sidewalk towards the restaurant.
"How many of…us are in the city?" he asked as they walked, not looking uncomfortable in the slightest.
"There are multiple gangs of shapeshifters that live in the old sewer systems. Some other magical people are in hiding as well. Most pop up during the night when the risk of getting caught is lower."
"Caught?" he asked, tilting his head. "What do you mean?"
"Government. Mad scientists. Society. The like." Her mood seemed to sour some. "Magic isn't very well liked 'round here."
He frowned in response, still somewhat confused. "That's….weird. I've never heard of something like that."
(sorry, photoshoot)
She gave him a funny look. "Really? All I've ever known was hatred for having magic."
"No one I've ever met had a problem with it. Although, I was out in the country for a few years."
Tessa shrugged. "Then consider yourself lucky. I haven't had such fortune."
He could tell it was a touchy situation, so he decided to shut up about it.
(Will his mom show up sooner in this one now that we know exactly who it is?)
