Melissa nuzzled up against him, tucking her head under his chin. "I love you too~" She hummed, kissing his shoulder. "I'm glad I can be here for you, love. You're wonderful."
Melissa nuzzled up against him, tucking her head under his chin. "I love you too~" She hummed, kissing his shoulder. "I'm glad I can be here for you, love. You're wonderful."
"I'm glad you think so…" Lucas smiled weakly and wrapped his arms around Melissa, holding her close to himself as he rested his head against hers. "Don't we have to go back to school?"
"Uhg, don't remind me. We go back tomorrow, and I'm not looking forward to it." Melissa grumbled, muttering under her breath as she played with his clothes a little. "But I mean, I guess you might. Honestly, the only reason I'm going back is that I have a feeling you'd drag me if I didn't go willingly."
"Yeah, I would. I'm kinda looking forward to it. It'll be nice to get more of a sense of normalcy." Lucas shrugged and closed his eyes, relaxing a bit. "Even if it's monotonous."
"Glad at least one of us is excited," Melissa mumbled some more, sinking even further into the couch. Her eyes trailed off into the distance, growing disconnected for a few seconds before snapping herself back into reality. "You have any idea how much work you had left?"
Lucas shrugged again. "Some. I'm trying not to think about it too much. I'm sure it'll be hard when I go back since I missed so much… and no one knows why."
"Mmm… yeah," Melissa mumbled, trying to relax. "Well, if people ask, you can always tell them the truth. Or that you had to take a break for mental health reasons, which is technically also true. And very understandable."
"Yeah, but I can't exactly just 'take a break for mental health reasons' for as long as I did. A day or two, sure, but… I don't think people would really buy that." Lucas sighed softly. "Of course, this is assuming people even noticed I was gone…"
"You left your whole team behind, as the captain. Pretty sure people noticed. And I may not be super popular, but I know people. Let's just say I was asked quite a bit why you weren't around." Melissa shrugged, kissing his forehead. "So people care if that's what you were worried about."
"I just… I dunno… I don't talk a ton, so I didn't figure anyone outside of the baseball team would particularly notice or care." Lucas shrugged. "And that's fine… it doesn't bother me. I wouldn't expect them to."
"Mmm, sounds like it bugs you a little at least," Melissa commented, pushing back enough to make eye contact with him. "If it does, you can tell me. I could just be overreading the situation, but I feel like it has to bug you at least a little."
"Mmnh…" Lucas looked away, clearly a little uncomfortable. "I dunno. It would be my fault anyway for never talking to anybody. It's not their fault. Claus was the interesting one, and now that he's gone, people forgot about me. Not like it's their fault that I was silent all the time, right?"
"No, but you've been through so much, it's kinda understandable you didn't talk much." Melissa shrugged in return, curling back up. "And I don't think people forgot about you, hon. I think they just knew you needed space, after everything that happened. And well, I guess it's up to you if you want to try to talk to people."
"Yeah, yeah… it would probably only make everything worse. I got bullied enough in elementary and middle school. I'm sure it wouldn't bode well for me if everyone figured out I tried to kill myself, you know? And it's not really any of their business regardless, so…"
Letting his words sink in, she didn't really have much else to say. So she said what she could think of. "I guess not." And that was it. What else was she supposed to say? I mean it was true, she wasn't going to try and to convince him it wasn't.
"Anyway, it'll be better if people don't ask questions. I don't particularly want to answer them." Lucas shrugged and closed his eyes. "Like I said, it's really not any of their business why I was gone."
"It's not, but just be prepared to have people ask tons of questions. I'm sure some people got curious, considering you have class with people." Melissa pointed out, nuzzling against him. "But we can drop it if you don't want to talk about it anymore."
"Yeah, I'll have to come up with ways to deflect them… I'm sure it'll only stress me out." Lucas kissed the top of Melissa's head and held her close. "But yeah, let's talk about something else…"
"M'kay…" Melissa hummed, running through ideas in her head. "Are we driving to school, instead of walking? We won't have to leave as early if we do." Her suggestion hung there for a moment as she ran her fingers through his hair, reaching for one of his hands to hold onto.
"Mm… we can if you want to." Lucas shrugged a bit. "I don't mind doing whatever." He linked his fingers with Melissa's when she reached for him, holding tightly to her hand. "What time is it?"
Melissa lifted her head, glancing at the clock behind him. "A little after five," Dropping back down, she let out a soft sigh. "You hungry? Or just curious?"
"Bit of both… I'm having trouble with remembering what time it is." He sighed softly as well. "We should probably eat something soon."
"Trouble…?" Melissa asked softly, sitting back up. "What do you mean, 'trouble'?" She insisted, tipping his chin up to look at her. "When did this start happening? Like a few days ago? A couple of months ago?"
"Huh? Oh, it's not like, a new thing… I just have trouble processing time." Lucas shrugged and looked up at Melissa. "I guess it probably started while I was at the hospital. I didn't have a window, so… I didn't really know what day or time it was."
"Oh, um okay…" Melissa mumbled, sinking back into the couch. Her sudden panic seemed to vanish, letting his explanation relax her. "Sorry, I'm just worried about you, y'know? It makes sense, I just… yeah."
