Archer chuckled at her mutterings before glancing down at the menu.
"Probably just a sandwich with a salad or something," he said with a shrug.
Archer chuckled at her mutterings before glancing down at the menu.
"Probably just a sandwich with a salad or something," he said with a shrug.
“Sandwiches are yummy,” Addie agreed. “I was thinking a sandwich as well.”
"That sounds like a good plan," Archer said right as the waitress came back. She gave him a wary smile, barely glancing at Addie as she set their waters down.
"Vous êtes avec un Américain?" she murmured to him, still smiling.
"Oui. Pas que ça ait quelque chose à voir avec toi," Archer told her with a cold look.
Addie watched their conversation like a tennis match, her eyes narrowed.
"Est-elle ta petite amie?" Ann asked, fluttering her eyelashes.
"That's up to her," Archer declared, switching back to English.
Addie looked at Archer, then at Ann. All she’d understood was ‘is she your’. “Ah… yes???” She looked at Archer, mouthed, “I don’t know!” and then turned back to Ann. “Yes… ?”
Ann chuckled, knowing Addie had no idea what he'd said.
Archer leaned over to Addie and murmured, "She asked if you're my girlfriend…"
Addie turned red. “Um.” She straightened her back and stared Ann in the eye. “Yes, I am. And I’m not an American, I’m British. Fight me.”
Archer grinned at her answer. "Exactly. Now please leave. I would like a new waiter."
Ann gasped and turned on her heel. She sashayed back to the kitchen, fuming.
Addie turned to Archer. “Really really sorry, I’m not British, I’m American, I swear, I just wanted her to go away….”
"It is perfectly fine, Addie," Archer chuckled. "You don't really have a British accent, anyway."
“Okay, good,” Addie smiled, leaning back in her chair.
Archer leaned forward a bit, grinning at her.
"So, about what you agreed to…" he trailed off, looking at her expectantly.
Addie raised an eyebrow. “What about it?”
"Did you mean that? Do you really want to be my girlfriend?" Archer asked, hiding his nervousness with a charming smirk.
“Sure,” Addie shrugged, a smile gracing her lips.
Archer's grin widened. "Really? You truly do?"
“Why not?” Addie laughed, happiness bubbling in her chest. “But only if I can pay for lunch.”
"Oh, come on! That's totally not fair," Archer laughed.
“Pick one,” Addie grinned.
"Fine, you can pay for lunch," Archer huffed, shaking his head.
A new waiter came over, apologizing for the wait. He asked if they were ready to order with a polite smile.
“Je vais prendre la soupe aux tomates, s'il vous plaît,” Addie said to the waiter, clasping her hands in her lap. “Et un thé aussi, s'il vous plaît.” She turned to Archer. “I know how to order soup and tea.”
Archer chuckled. "I see that. I'll have the same as her," he told the waiter, who wrote down the order and went back to the kitchen.
Addie took a sip of her water. “I thought you were getting a sandwich?”
"I changed my mind," Archer said with a smile. "Your order sounded better."
