They had arrived at their house. He ordered the butlers and maids to go and treat and Cas and all of his wounds, as they were much better healers than he was.
Cas stayed unconscious through the whole process, luckily, but he was still in a lot of pain when he finally woke up a couple hours later. He curled in on himself, whimpering with pained tears rising to his eyes.
No one in the household knew how to treat bullet wounds, so Abarat just stopped the blood flow. The pain was indescribable, yes, but it's not like he could just go to the hospital. He walked in on Cas and kneeled down next to him, wincing when he did. "You're still hurting, huh?"
Cas flinched at the sound of Abarat's voice, trembling. He was understandably a bit jumpy right now, and he had his arms folded tightly over his stomach as he curled into a ball. Although he didn't make direct eye contact with Abarat yet, fear was evident in his eyes.
"Hm." He reached over to a nearby table and grabbed painkillers. It looked like that it hadn't even been opened yet, which meant that the healers forgot to give them to Cas. Abarat sighed and took a few out and grabbed the handy glass of water that was nearby. "Here. Eat this."
Cas hesitated before taking the pills and returning to his tight ball. The healers had relayed all of Cas's injuries that they could find to Abarat, figuring he'd want to know. Cas's broken arm and wrist were in a cast, and his right arm, legs, and torso were all bandaged up.
Abarat sighed quietly. "I'll let you rest." He got up and left the room, but sat in a chair that was right next to his door. Just in case.
Cas nodded, staring blankly at the wall. As exhausted as he was, he wasn't able to sleep all night. He was scared that they'd been followed, that the men would hurt him and Abarat again. He was too terrified to sleep yet.
A few hours later, Abarat came back with a food tray. He kneeled down by Cas again, showing the food tray to him. He was being very careful, as to not make Cas flinch again.
Cas surveyed Abarat cautiously before pushing himself into a sitting position. "H-Hey…" He said, his voice very hoarse from not using it and from being repeatedly almost drowned.
"Hey, Cas." he spoke softly. He pulled up a chair and sat in it. "You hungry?"
"A little…" He replied softly, rubbing his throat with one hand. His vision was still a bit blurry, but he could make out Abarat well enough.
"Can you eat by yourself or do you want me to feed you?"
"I think I can do it myself…" Cas started eating, trying to ignore how much his hands were shaking.
Abarat watched him eat, ready to catch the food if it fell. He wanted to start a conversation with Cas, but he didn't want to scare him, either. "Did you sleep well?"
Cas shook his head. "Couldn't sleep… I tried, but tired as I am, I couldn't keep my eyes closed for long."
"You don't feel safe, do you?"
He shook his head again. "Not in the slightest…"
"They won't come here. They can't come here." He smiled reassuringly at Cas
"B-But what if they do…?" Cas asked weakly, blinking to try and prevent himself from crying.
"They'd have to find a way to come back from the dead first," he spoke in a low voice. "The survivors will be imprisoned if they're ever seen in public."
Cas nodded shakily, wanting to rub at his eyes, but afraid to because of how much his arms hurt. "They… they hurt me…" He whispered, closing his eyes.
Abarat sucked in air sharply. It pained him to see someone like this. "I know. I'm sorry." he paused. "But you're safe now."
"I'm scared… I-I'm scared to move because I'm scared of how much it'll hurt… I'm scared to open my eyes because I don't know who I'll see… I'm scared to eat because I don't know if it's safe or if I'll be able to keep it down… all I feel is terror right now." Cas murmured, trembling.
