Nick got into the car and drove to the school.
Nick got into the car and drove to the school.
"Alright, um… you take a left from here and then go straight until you reach the yellow sign with words on it, and then you go to the right for a bit."
Nick followed his directions, playing soft music through his car’s speakers.
"And then we take another left here…" Cas murmured. "And we should go straight for a while and then we should be there."
Nick followed his directions, glancing over at Cas as they stopped. “Is this it?” he asked.
Cas nodded and unbuckled himself, slipping out of the car. "Thank you so much for driving me home, Nick."
“Of course, anytime,” he responded breezily. “Thanks for hanging out with me.”
"Thanks for inviting me." Cas smiled weakly and headed inside, where his foster parents started chastising him for being gone for so long without telling them where he was going. He explained the situation and then locked himself in his bedroom for the rest of the night.
Nick drove himself home and tried to talk his mom into liking Cas, or at least disliking him less.
(Time skip?)
(sure!)
Cas showed up to school the next day with a fluffy black cat in his arms, seeming pretty nervous as he walked in. He knew he was allowed to bring Nix anywhere, but he really didn't want the cat to get hurt.
Nick was getting something out of his locker, busy looking for a textbook that was buried underneath his nest of papers and snack wrappers.
Cas found Nick and gently tapped his shoulder before holding Nix more securely. "Nick? I brought my cat."
Nick turned, grinning when he saw the cat. “Aww, can I pet him?”
"Yeah, of course. He's really friendly." Cas smiled gently, scratching behind Nix's ears.
Nick grinned excitedly, and gently stroked the cat’s soft fur.
"I'll be keeping him with me all day… you don't think Brandon or Ian will try to hurt him, will they?"
“I hope not,” Nick said. “They have other people to mess with, and I don’t think they’d stoop low enough to hurt someone’s cat.”
Cas nodded a bit, holding Nix closer to himself. "I just… I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to him…"
“We won’t let anything happen to him,” Nick replied.
Cas nodded again and Nix meowed softly, nuzzling against Cas's cheek to calm him. "I think he's a lot better for me than a dog would be…"
“I’ve heard cats are easier to take care of,” Nick agreed. He petted Nix again.
"Yeah… I'm also terrified of dogs." Cas laughed weakly. "Lots of mean ones on the streets."
“Oh yikes,” Nick said in sympathy. “That doesn’t sound fun.”
