Corbin thought a moment.
"I was thinking once or twice a week would be enough to satiate the curiosity of anyone paying attention to what we do." The king tilted his head just a bit, one hand going to his chin.
"I'm not entirely sure what the signal would be. Is there something either of you two find inconspicuous?"
(Yayyy!!!)
Mir thought for a moment. “Well, when I was a spy, we had a signal for “rendezvous” at a predetermined place.” He made the gesture quickly and instinctively with one hand. “We could use that…” He looked at Corbin for the approval.
"Ah, I remember that sign, we had someone try and teach us it, not for the actual war, mostly for sex." Dali tapped the arm of the chair. "I suppose it fits-" The man was cut off by a knock at the door, the doctor Corbin had sent for, probably.
Corbin watched Dragomir make the sign. In all reality, he didn't quiet catch all of it, the man did it so fast.
"Yes, that can work," he confirmed. He smiled some, his hand going to his lap from his chin. He himself looked up at the knock on the door. He let out a sigh of relief, standing to go answer it.
"Thank you, for coming," he said softly, stepping to the side for the doctor to come in.
Dragomir smiled at the doctor coming in, hoping that he and Dali would at last have some relief. “Hello…” he said softly, tiredly.
Dali straightened his back as the doctor stepped in, face losing it's spark and sliding into a mask of apathy. "Hello doctor. If possible, could you see to him first?" Dali jerked his head to where Dragonmir was laying.
Mir shot a dark glare at Dalimil. “I’m not nearly as bad as you. You need the attention first. I’m worried your wound is going to get infected. I’ll be fine.” He was completely ignoring the burning sensation of his arm after he had flashed the signal, having used his right hand as that was what he had been accustomed to. He’d be fine for a bit longer.
"You're about to fall asleep, let the doctor look over you first, it doesn't hurt as much when I sit." Dali's voice was firm, leaving no room for argument from Dragomir. He raised an eyebrow and nodded to Mir's arm. "Just let them."
Dragomir sighed and fully relaxed into the pillow before mumbling, “I’m not falling asleep anytime soon if I can help it….” He simply glanced tiredly around the room, first at the doctor, then at Dali, and finally his eyes rested on the king and lingered there for a moment.
The doctor looked between the two men as they spoke, her bag held in front of her in both hands.
"It is honorable that you both are more concerned for the other, but I can be the judge of who needs my help first," she finally said, looking between the two. Corbin looked at Dragomir in turn, offering a small assuring smile. The doctor stepped up, moving to look over Dalimil first to see the severity of his condition. Just a quick check, of course, making mental notes of his situation. The king made his way back to his seat at the bed, still offering a small smile.
Mir sighed in relief when the doctor decided to choose for herself. Dalimil’s injury would surely be of more concern. Mir’s heart skipped a tiny bit when Corbin smiled back at him. He sighed and looked up to the ceiling, struggling to keep his eyes open.
Dali sighed and moved a bit so his leg was more accessible to the doctor. "Injured it in an explosion, I was next to an iron base building and when it exploded, I got the material shards wedged in my leg. The lady I went to got most of them out, but since it didn't have the chance to heal, I assume it quite bad."
Corbin reached over, very lightly putting his hand on Dragomir's. He was worried, he had to admit. The halfling needed the rest, but he understood the fear of sleep.
"Do you want me to help distract you?" he finally said, keeping his voice soft and low so only Dragomir could hear. "So you don't fall asleep yet…"
The doctor nodded, setting her bag down after a moment.
"It's better than I expected," she admitted. When she had been informed of the situation, she had expected to find completely untreated, infectious wounds.
"You will need a brace, of course…"
Mir nodded eagerly, looking over at the king. “Please.” He sighed. “Sorry if I’m bothering you though. You must be busy as the king… How often will you want Dali me I around? Since you’ll probably be buried in work…”
Dali matched the Doctor's nod. "Of course. I can feel the shards still in my leg, if that's of any interest." He remarked dryly, though that is probably just his personality, definitely was just his personality.
"No, you're not bothering me," Corbin said. He offered a small smile again.
"I think it would be good for it to be often. You'll definitely have to come to the advisory meetings, of course." Corbin kept his hand on Dragomir's, letting out a simple sigh.
The doctor pursed her lips at the new information.
"I'll have to see what I can do to remove them, then. There might be some that are too risky to try, but I'm sure I could remove a few more." The doctor tapped her chin as she thought of the best way to proceed.
Dragomir smiled back at the smile, very sweetly. “So we’ll have to keep up the act often… Are you alright with me hugging you often….? I… I’m a little bit over affectionate, I have to admit… so if you don’t like it, please tell me….”
Dali gave a thumbs up and looked up at the ceiling. "Good to know, I thought it would have to be amputated." He hummed, wow, the lack of sleep was starting to catch up on him. When the doctor was gone, he was gonna go lay down somewhere.
"Yes, I'm completely fine with it," Corbin confirmed. "As I said, it's your choice as to how much affection you're comfortable with yourself, I can handle it." Corbin looked happy, continuing to speak softly with Dragomir.
"I'll let you know if you ever push the boundary too much."
"The procedure will take a lot. It might best to allow you to rest now, and give you a brace so your leg isn't moving much until I can operate. Or would you rather we do so now?" The doctor picked up her bag again, opening it.
(I saw this updated and I immediately fist-pumped and whispered “Yes!!” Lmao)
Dragomir smiled. “Get ready for lots of affection then… I’ve been bottling it all up for the most part since I was kicked out of my camp…” He sighed and looked over at Dali before continuing to speak to Corbin. “We’ve both been through a lot… I think Dali had it worst between us two… he’s angry and bitter… It might take some time before he’s back to how he used to be….”
Dali made a noise in the back of his throat before looking back down at his leg. "Could I… Just rest for a bit?" His voice was quiet, he was too tired to put up enough of an attitude as he did nowadays. He just wanted to lay down, maybe hug Mir, hell maybe even hug Corbin if he was out of it enough.
(Dali's just like "I'll hug the very huggable looking king… if I have to.")
Corbin nodded some, smiling. He could handle the affection.
"I see… Well, then, we'll have to give him that time. I'm hoping both of you will be able to who you used to be before, if you wish to. I know this war has taken so much, from everyone in this country…" That's why Corbin wanted it to end. There have been an entire generation born into this war, grown up in it, were shaped by it.
The doctor nodded.
"Yes, that is reasonable." She opened her back, pulling out a wooden brace.
"This is just temporary, until we can have one made with your measurements." She opened the brace, moving to slip it around Dali's leg. She tightened it appropriately, nodding to herself some.
Dali gave a thankful smile. "I- uh, thanks." He said, moving to touch the brace lightly with his fingertips. He honestly thought that he would just die with his leg as messed up as it was, but he supposed this was a new page in his book, he was going to get better.
