Eden’s POV:
I bit my lip, going through the shelves in the bookstore, trying to find a book I could buy for my class. I wanted something that I could read to enhance my veterinarian knowledge, and even though I knew all I needed to do was ask my mom for a book, I wanted to search for myself. Finally, I found a book that fit my liking and I took it up to the attendant, purchasing it and walking out.
The weather was quite cold—the wind blew heavily and the sun was hiding behind the clouds. It wasn’t as bad as before, and I regretted not bringing my car. Sterling told me to, but I’d said no. I said I wanted to walk. Should have listened to my boyfriend. Sighing, I walked faster, trying to make it home before the sky tore into two.
I didn’t make it very far before the first few droplets fell and the sky began to cry heavily. I hissed under my breath and started running, but I knew I would be soaked to the bone before I even reached home.
I had only one choice.
So here I was, in front of Violeta’s dorm, drenched from the rain and shivering from the cold.
Good Lord, please let my book be okay…
(Wait, is she outside the building or the dorm room?)
The building.
(got it)
I pulled on my warm sweater (vintage Champion, mind you) and went to the window, glad for my inventory of fuzzy socks. The rain poured down from outside the window, the sky painted with large, swirling brush strokes of grey that reminded me of Van Gogh. I pulled myself up into the kitchen counter and watched the storm, a small smile playing on my lips. I’d always thought of thunderstorms as the sky breaking down or having a tantrum, rather than the ‘God’s piss’ analogy some of my former classmates had particularly enjoyed. But my eyes drifted downwards and snagged on a familiar figure— Eden?? Out in this??
I pulled out my phone and dialed her number, thoroughly confused.
Eden’s POV:
I was just about to call Violeta when my phone rang, indicating a call from her. I sneezed, sighing before I answered the call.
“Hi,” I greeted her as if everything was normal—like I wasn’t standing in the harsh weather.
“Is that you I can see right outside the front entrance to my dorm??” I tried to get a better look at the woman down below, but my window was too high off the ground.
Eden’s POV:
I paused for a moment before clearing my throat.
“I guess so,” I nodded into the phone, although she couldn’t see me properly enough to know that. “It’s cold.”
“What on earth are— you know what, right now, I don’t care. You are coming in right now and staying in my room until the storm is over.” My tone made it clear that I was not going to budge, I could hear the peals of thunder from inside and knew that lightning would follow.
Eden’s POV:
I felt a small smile take over my lips before I shook my head.
“I don’t know which room is yours,” I told her in amusement.
“I’m room 242. The front door is unlocked— or do you want me to come down?” Either way, I wasn’t leaving her out in the cold and the rain.
Eden’s POV:
Room 242…
I shook my head, already walking inside the building, fighting off a sneeze.
“No, you don’t need to,” I objected, shivering slightly, my hair now stuck to my face. I pushed them aside, knowing I definitely looked like a monster. “I’m on my way in.”
I walked faster, looking around to find Violeta’s room. When I finally found it, I knocked twice before opening it and stepping inside, the warm greeting me.
I pulled my phone away from my ear, waved at her and smiled.
“Hi.”
Sometimes I was such an idiot, but let’s say it was Sterling’s fault.
I was immediately all over her, grabbing the fluffy blanket off my chair. “Hey— god, you must be so cold! Here, I’ll make you some tea, you can bother some of my clothes and put yours on the heater to dry.”
Eden’s POV:
I obliged without objections. I excused myself to go to her bathroom, dried myself off and wore the clothes she gave me. When I walked out, Violeta was busy making tea.
“Hey, where do you keep the mop?” I asked her, eyeing the puddle of water on her floor.
I came over with a steaming mug, which I pressed into her hands. “Don’t worry about that, I’ll clean it up. How are you?”
Eden’s POV:
I took the tea gently, looking at Violeta with an apologetic look on my face.
“I’m sorry,” I said, pointing at the mess. “I’m okay. Still a little cold, but I’m okay. I went to get a book—“ which was wet, I’m afraid… “—and I didn’t realize the weather would be like this, and didn’t bring my car… and you were the closest I could get to.”
I waved her apologies off, my smile almost as warm as the tea I had just handed off. “Don’t worry about it, I don’t mind at all, as long as you’re out of the rain.” I paused, reaching for the blanket I’d discarded on the bed. “Here, have this if you’re cold. And you should probably call Sterling before he gets worried.”
Eden’s POV:
I smiled gratefully at Violeta, accepting the blanket she extended towards me. I wrapped it around myself right when she told me to call Sterling.
I’d totally forgotten to do that.
“Ah,” I grabbed my phone immediately, biting my lower lip, hoping he hadn’t called while I was talking to Violeta, and if he had, he wouldn’t be angry. I dialed his number and pressed the phone against my ear, waiting for him to answer as I took a sip of the tea.
(Why is it Sterling’s fault? Lol.)
Sterling’s POV:
I was pacing the apartment nervously when I got Eden’s call. She should have been home by now, and the storm was just starting. With the sky looking like this, I didn’t want her outside. Gosh, I hoped she wasn’t outside…
“Eden? Babe, where are you? Please tell me you’re not out in this mess,” I answered my phone when she called.
Eden’s POV:
I felt a small smile bloom on my lips.
“Hi,” I greeted him softly. “I’m all right, I promise. I went over at Violeta’s, so I’m not out in the storm.
(Because he made her soft xD)
Sterling’s POV:
I let out a long breath and ran a hand through my hair as I made my way to the living room and sat down. “Good. I’m glad your safe…” I quickly stood and hurried to the door, having a sudden though. “I’m coming to get you. What’s the address?”
As she talked with her boyfriend, I moved around my side of the dorm, cleaning up paintbrushes and supplies that had been discarded when the storm hit.
Eden's POV:
"No, Sterling," I shook my head. "You stay there. I'm fine. I'll stay at Violeta's until the storm is over. You stay safe. Don't forget to eat, all right? And keep yourself warm."
