Sirus nodded, "I figured as much." he said between bites of apple.
Gwen chuckled a little at the confirmation, kinda excited to show off her skill and how she fit in more with the tribe than her father's kingdom. Though she suspected that he might already have an idea considering the dinner last night.
Sirus hummed, "So when does your training start?" he asked, getting up and moving back to his pack, crunching on the last of his apple as he dug just underneath his spare set of clothes, for a midlength sword, figuring if there were training grounds, he could get a couple sessions for himself in at some point.
She hummed a little as she finished her own apple. ”As soon as we head over to the training grounds.” she said before popping back in her tent for a moment to grab her quiver and spear. She raised an impressed brow slightly at the sight of the sword. ”Weapon of choice?” she asked, gesturing at the sword in his hands.
"I prefer my knives and daggers, but this is better for close combat." said Sirus, hooking the sheath to his belt for easy access, letting it hang at an angle against his left thigh so he could reach it with his right hand.
Gwen nodded a little, adjusting her quiver over her shoulder. Honestly, she probably wouldn't be using her bow today since she had just proved her skill yesterday. But her own ability with a sword could use some improvement. Her hunting knife was fine and the spear was useful but if she ever threw it, she’d be a target. ”Training is this way.” she told him before starting to head towards the grounds.
Sirus himself knew that a bow wasn't good in close combat, and niether were his knives, particularly his throwing knives. But that was why he preferred long distance confrontations, hiding in the shadows and making a move from a distance.
Gwen likewise preferred long-range fights but she knew that wasn't always an option. Part of the reason she had the spear… but if she was going to be an effective warrior she had to learn more about how to handle the sword.
Sirus himself wasn't bad with the sword, but practice wouldn't hurt him.
Gwen continued to lead him through the already busy pathways. It was nowhere near as busy as it could have been but plenty of people were already starting on their daily routines. There was even a small party heading out of the village to gather more food and water.
Sirus followed quietly, paying little attention to the surrounding village as they made their way towards the training grounds.
Corvin was already waiting for them, firing a few arrows of his own when he noticed Gwen and Sirius approaching. ”Well, good morning.” he smiled softly. ”Are you joining us today, Sirius?”
Sirus shrugged, "Practice is never a bad thing if you'll have me." he said, glancing over to the target the other had been using, "Nice aim" he commented.
Corvin nodded a little, agreeing as he lowered his bow. ”I’m not going to stop you. These grounds are open to anyone old enough or skilled enough to use them.” he informed the shifter before smiling a little. ”Thank you. I've been practicing for a long time. We think it's a very useful skill.” his smile turned into a friendly challenge as held the weapon out to him. ”How’s your aim?”
"Probably not great" said Sirus with a laugh, accepting the friendly challenge and moving to place himself in front of the target, knocking the arrow and aiming carefully before letting it fly. It hit the target, but was off by a bit, hitting to the upper left of the center where he had been aiming.
”Not bad either.” Corvin commented with a small nod.
Gwen couldn't resist the challenge either. She quickly readied her own bow, firing at the same target and hit under and to the right of Sirius's arrow. But was still shy of the bullseye herself.
Sirus nodded, "Bows were never my strong point, he returned the bow and pulled a knife from a hidden sheath at his hip, throwing it towards the target with a quick, fluid movement. It hit just below the bullseye, having dropped a bit lower than intended due to the distance.
Corvin shrugged and accepted the bow back, smirking a little when Gwen fired her shot and chuckling at Sirius’s second display. ”So I see.”
Gwen stared at the knife, both impressed and a little irritated by the throw since she didn't have any way to compete with that. All she had was her bow… ”Nicely done.” she complimented sincerely.
Sirus nodded, then out of nowhere the knife was back in his hand, shadows melting away from it being the only evidence as to how it got there. "Works better with my shadows too.." he said, accepting the compliments.
”Ok, now you're just showing off.” Gwen accused playfully with a smirk as she watched the shadows around him.
"Maybe a little." admitted Sirus, "Or possibly just a little lazy." he shrugged playfully, seeming more at ease on topics concerning how to use weapons.
”I doubt that.” Gwen chuckled at the idea of him being lazy. She hadn't known him for very long but she was almost sure that he was just as dedicated to his… work as any other would be, considering he had found her so quickly. ”How long have you used those?” she asked referring to his knives, genuinely interested.
"I'm not sure to be honest," said Sirus, "I had started off with low quality knives and smaller daggers before I got these and my sword." he hummed, "It's been awhile since I've had them though."
She nodded a little, honestly a bit jealous of the fact that he had them so long that he couldn't say exactly when he had them. Gwen could always imagine a warrior having a special connection with their weapons… And Sirius certainly seemed to have that with his daggers.
Corvin walked back to the pair, having used their conversation as a distraction to pull the arrows out of the target. ”You two ready to start?”
