Edward raised a brow at her tone, though didn't bother to argue as he didn't want to make her mad, "Understood."
Edward raised a brow at her tone, though didn't bother to argue as he didn't want to make her mad, "Understood."
She relaxed a little, smiling at Dorian. "See? Now was that so bad?"
Dorian rolled his eyes, "You did most of the talking." He mumbled, turning to leave the room.
She gently pulled him out of the room. "Well, maybe so but I had a feeling you didn't want to do it. However, I'm not doing it for your father. That's all you."
Dorian swallowed. It was the one he was dreading the most. At least Edward was… well what he assumed was approving of them, "I know."
"I know you're scared but it's now or never." She pecked his cheek. "I'll be right here, you're not doing this alone."
"I know I know it's just… you know, I never know what that man is going to say about anything I do… usually it's never good."
"Well maybe this will be different. And even if it isn't, I know I love you and that's all that matters."
"Maybe it will be, but you can never be too sure with him. Hopefully with you there he won't say anything too bad."
"Well you never know until you try so let's go." She gestured for him to lead the way.
Dorian nodded, leading them down the long hallways and towards the second floor of the manor.
She followed him quietly, occasionally giving his hand a light squeeze.
Eventually they made it to his father's study. Even the doors felt larger then normal. Dorian knocked.
She took a deep breath and smiled at him. "Hey, remember, we're in this together. You're not alone in this."
"I know."
There was a response from the other side and Dorian opened the door, leading them inside. The room was large, well decorated apart from the desk which was a mess. His father sat behind it.
She was legitimately nervous for this. Sure, he'd been willing to help when she needed it but now he could say no.
Dorian cleared his throat. His father looked up, raising a brow but he didn't say anything.
"Um, father, Fiona and I are…" He swallowed, "W-Well we're.. engaged." He hated the fact he stuttered but he couldn't help it.
She shifted slightly closer to him, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. She was nervous, waiting for his reaction.
His dad looked up, the only emotion was a small flicker in his jaw, “Okay… and?”
“And we wanted to know if we had your blessing.”
“Sure.”
Wow, you'd think he'd be just a tad bit more reactive about his son getting engaged. She didn't say anything, not wanting to annoy him and risk him revoking his blessing although she was a little annoyed herself.
"Is that all you can say? Sure?" Dorian frowned, clearly upset though his dad didn't notice as he looked back down.
"You're old enough to make your own choices. Besides, you're not Edward."
Dorian opened his mouth, but shut it shortly after, "Come on Fiona, I think we're done here."
"No, I don't think we are." She stepped forward. "If he won't listen to you, then maybe I can say something."
This was a bad idea and she knew it but she had to do something.
She cleared her throat and began. "This is unacceptable. You refuse to be there for him and that can hold a major consequence. When you die, he is part what will be left of you. Just because you don't get along doesn't give you the right to throw him away. He is still your son, your bloodline. He may not be the heir but one day he will be. You can choose to stay out of his life but I don't recommend it. You'll be lying on your deathbed, breathing your last and you'll remember the days that you shut him out with regret in your heart. The days you ignore him, he will remember. I will remember. I hope you're proud of yourself." Her voice was firm, final, and completely confident. She wouldn't stand for this treatment of the man she was going to marry.
His father just smirked slightly, looking up for the briefest moment before looking down again, "I'll try and remember that. Thanks for you… words of wisdom."
She was terrified to stand up for herself but when it came to those she loved, she stood strong. She turned and walked out, letting her confident facade fade once the door closed.
"You didn't… You didn't have to do that…" Dorian mumbled, taking her hand with a soft sigh.
