Cas hummed and examined the ball, slowly rotating it in his nimble fingers. A few sparks flew up into the glass from his hand.

Ashley watched intensely, gasping when the sparks lit up. "How did you do that?"
"Hmm?" Cas glanced up at Ashley. "Fire powers. Magical objects tend to react with it. It's hard to tell exactly what this is for, though…" He looked back down at the ball, letting a few more flickering flames dance inside the orb.
"Coooool! I don't think I can do that." Ashley's tails flicked.
"No secondary powers?" He asked simply, casting his gaze back up to Ashley for a brief moment. "Other than the tails and ears, of course."
"Not that I know of." Ashley sighed and his ears went limp.
"Strange… is that normal? I think a lot of nekos and stuff don't really have any powers. Mine showed up pretty early, which is one of the reasons I left home." He twirled the ball in his fingers again.
"Dunno, I just kinda didn't try and I was a little scared of what would happen. And nothing ever did." His ears flicked back as though a bad memory appeared in Ashley's mind.
"Hmm. They can be quite problematic. I almost set things on fire quite often." He tossed the glass ball to his other hand, testing its weight.
"I understand how that would be a problem." He snapped out of the memory and turned back to Cas. "Figured anything out about the ball yet?"
He shook his head. "Unfortunately, nothing of importance. It seems to react with my magic, but this isn't my area of expertise… I'm not really sure what that reaction means. We might want to take it to a specialist in the area of magical items."
"Maybe tomorrow?" Ashley said, taking the ball back.
"Sure." Cas let him take it and lay back on the bed. "But speaking of the powers, that's why I overheat. My internal body temperature gets higher, and if it's particularly hot wherever I am, my internal temperature gets dangerously high. That's why flames were coming out of my mouth and stuff; it's a way to try and cool down."
"Ooohhh. I see." Ashley said. He looked down at the glass ball. "You're welcome to explore the house, just not my dad's room. I'm not even allowed in there."
Cas nodded. "Sounds good. I might stay here for a bit, though, if that's okay…" He yawned, revealing his sharp feline like teeth (so basically his canine teeth, but feline teeth lol).
"That's fine. Get some rest." Ashley stood up and went to the door. "Tell me if you need anything."
"Mhmm…" Cas curled up on the bed and soon drifted off to sleep. It had been a while since he'd gotten to sleep in a real bed, so this was a really nice experience for him.
Ashley left him sleeping and went to his own room. He collapsed on his bed and put his glass ball on the bedside table. He got up multiple times during the night to check on Cas and didn't sleep well otherwise.
Cas slept through the night well enough and awoke the next morning with a yawn. He stayed curled up on the bed, whining quietly to himself. He really hated mornings.
Ashley knocked on the door. "Are you awake?" He yawned.
"Unfortunately." Cas sighed, forcing himself up into a sitting position.
Ashley laughed quietly. "Can I get you anything for breakfast? Coffee maybe?"
"I've never had coffee before, but I don't know how well that would go down anyways…" Cas yawned, running his fingers through his hair as he got to his feet. "I can help you make something. I used to do a lot of cooking."
"I'll make you a little bit anyway. And sure you can help!" Ashley opened the door. His hair was all messed up but that was nothing unusual.
Cas nodded, following Ashley to the kitchen. He pulled out a couple pans. "So, what am I making today?"
