Alison glanced up at him. She still felt like something was off with him, but she didn't want to press him about it. He would tell her on his own time if he wanted to. And she could wait.
Alison glanced up at him. She still felt like something was off with him, but she didn't want to press him about it. He would tell her on his own time if he wanted to. And she could wait.
M glanced at her. It didnβt feel right to lie to her. What if she got mad? He couldnβt bring himself to tell her! What if she got mad? He shook himself a little. He needed to just calm down. If she noticed, and asked, heβd tell her.
"Are you truly sure that you are all right?" Alison asked gently, reaching up to cup his cheek.
M glanced at her. His eyes glistened unsurely in the light.
βYeahβ¦ Iβm fine. Tired.β
Alison nodded slowly, not fully convinced, and rubbed circles onto his skin. "All right. Let's sleep, thenβ¦"
M rested his head back down on the pillow, sighing. Sheβd notice eventually. He had taken quite a tumble. And there was a fight. He got shot, too, but that was a bandage on his hip now.
Alison moved her hand to his arm, rubbing it gently. It slipped lower down, and she felt his wounds before she looked down at them, her eyebrow furrowed. "Metaphorical⦠What happened?" she whispered.
M felt her cold fingers trace his upper arm, then over his bruises and scabs.
βIβ¦ It was just an accident. Iβm fine.β
Alison ran her hand over his arm gently, frowning as she looked at it. She chewed on her lip and glanced back up at her husband. "What happened, M?"
M swallowed nervously, shifting around on the bed. Even though the bullet wound was on his other hip, it hurt. Maybe it was because he was thinking and worrying about it.
βIt was justβ¦ aβ¦ case. I underestimated them.β
"And you got hurt⦠Where else?" Alison asked, looking him over worriedly.
M chewed on his lip. βEverywhere. Theyβ¦ they cornered me and attacked me.β
"Oh, honeyβ¦" Alison sighed closing her eyes. When she opened them, her gaze was soft and still worried. "You're okay now, though, right?"
M ducked his head slightly with a faint sigh. βYeah. Just a little shaken up.β He never thought someone would manage to push him in such a situation and make him feel useless like they did.
Alison nodded slowly and lightly kissed his forehead. "Okay⦠If you want to talk about it at all, I'm always here for you."
M glanced up at her and nodded. βThank you. Iβll take that into consideration.β
"That sounded very formal," Alison chuckled softly. "Sometimes, I feel like our conversations end up being a bit more formal than normal couples'."
M smiled a bit and set his head down. βY-yeah. I guess.β
"But I don't mind it⦠It's just how we are," Alison said softly, closing her eyes as she curled into him.
βYou are not not bold, my good man.β She laughed softly, setting down her second cup.
"Oh I'm not?" Jericho asked, cup half raised to his lips as he looked over at Graci with an eyebrow cocked.
M half-closed his eyes, sighing and slowly relaxing. βIt is, isnβt it?β
Graci chuckled. βNo. You are. The nots cancel each other out,β She pointed out smartly.
Jericho brought his glass all the way to his lips, smiling at his misunderstanding. "Ahhh. I was going to say, asking out a lady after just meeting her is quite bold."
Graci chuckled softly, crossing her fingers together. βAnd you donβt even know what her magic is,β She pointed out, smiling widely. Her teeth, sharp and white glistened in the light.
"My mother taught me never to ask a lady about her magic." Jericho kept smiling, he was being charming as hell, but he had no intention of stopping.
βYour mother was a very traditional woman.β She looked impressed. βI like that.β She nodded. Perhaps sheβd be treated even better than what she expected.
